Lady Gaga went to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and dropped out; she got into Julliard and never went. Those are both perfect examples of how artificial her fame is. It’s not her talent that got her where she is; rather it’s the papier-mâché persona she’s created for herself. alot of peoples attitudes on this thread really make me lose faith in some of my ICmag btothers. i like to think that the people i grow with(everyone here) are all open minded people w a level head and an understanding of certain concepts.
i work at a corporate restaurant, with a wide array of people from all different walks of life, with varying musical tastes. my bar manager(240 pound linebacker-looking dude with two kids and smokes regularly) would BLAST her Bad Romance song for a few plays every night when that song was VERY popular last year. every single person that i work with would sing that song word for word every night. wasnt a fan of her music before that song, and not really one now.
now the fact that she is the most popular person in the world has no bearing on the fact that she has talent. just the fact she got into juliard proves she has talent. i think the admission officers at juliard are an excellent judge of talent. much better than the bigoted folks on a marijuana growers forum. the fact she didnt go doesnt matter; obviously Gaga had plenty of TALENT and didnt need the education. Kelsey Grammer also graduated from juliard. is he a better actor than Leo Decaprio? i think not.
she is the most poular person in the world because she has talent. she has the most facebook friends because of how much talent she has. plain and simple. i absolutely hate facebook, myspace, etc...., any info sharing website like those, but i cant ignore the fact that Facebook is the thermometer that measures pop culture these days.
i grew up listening to bob dylan, dire straits, greatful dead, mose allison, talking heads, lou reed, pretenders, rolling stones, whatever my father liked to listen to or play on the guitar. by the time i was ten(yes, ten) it was GnR, metallica and motorhead. i had nirvanas bleach album before nevermind came out; ten people outside of seattle can say that. i am a lover of all things music, and know a good hook/riff/melody. these days i love me some The Streets, lupe fiasco, Kanye, tool, jayZ, even Wayne and jeezy.
im 30 years old and am as anti-establishment as they come, but i can recognize talent. Gaga is not some manufactured mickey mouse club pop star. shes been doing her own thing since she was a kid. how could someone controlled by the "machine" or any corporate conglomerate walk onstage wearing flank steak and beef tenderloin?

Madonna was not my cup of tea. I wanted to bang her in the lucky star video... but by the time Papa don't preach come out I was done with my crush. If this thread had come out when Madonna was in the height of her popularity, writhing around doing "Like a virgin" I would've been one of the people in here saying that she had no talent, just some dumb slut who blew somebody.
That's because when that song came out I was a biased teenager and if it wasn't black sabbath, metallica or iron maiden, I didn't like it.

Thats international & beyond ....and like all Madonna's vids on YouTube u get to get a nice fat little advertisement before each play , that's a huge deal & facebook & the rest of the advertisers are loving it . Well in the great tradition of "Art School" drop out's , that gave us so many music phenoms back to John Lennon & later DEVO & Talking Heads ...Gaga carrys the torch of breaking/pushing the envelope . <G
