Actually from what I have been reading, the over all concern is water, The access to potable water world wide. Yeah, the oceans are full nut you can't drink it. Where the water is most needed the technology to even drill a well is most non existent. Water or the access to it, not food or fuel will be the maker or breaker in the coming years.

There are a few documentaries about the coming water shortage... "Water Wars", "Blue gold"...or something like that... They're pretty good and show how we have MORE PEOPLE than we can support.

We used to have big wars and there were the occasional big droughts or disease outbreaks that would take out a few million people here and there. We don't have that any more. So we have too many people. Now we have to deal with all of them...feed them.

A good analogy is an "old cat lady". She's a senior citizen, has a fixed income...she starts with just a couple of cats...for a while everything is fine. But then her cats start having more cats and they have more...because the lady kept providing more and more food and the size of the household grew. But one day...she couldn't afford to buy the food she needed to feed everyone. But instead of culling the "herd"...she TRIED to feed everyone. Well everyone suffered and many died anyway. so now she's got a full house full of sick and starving cats. When she SHOULD have let half of them die in the beginning, saving the rest...allowing everyone to eat to their fill.

We need to "cull the human herd".

You're going to have to send me a few links about "solar panels that work at night"!!! That's a new one on me! That moon..it sure puts out a lot of energy! Statements like THIS is what makes me "skip over" certain posts...I'll show you one later...

One of the best "skips" right there.

Maybe 40 miles a day is OK for YOU...I prefer the FREEDOM that my own GAS powered car offers. If YOU want to live that way fine...but DON'T try to force it upon me!
You don't have to drive a battery, you can always hoof it.

Public transportation? It's full of losers and weirdos...I wouldn't be caught dead on a bus these days. Get rid of the scum and ridership may go up for "normal" folks.
I wonder how they'll feel with a bigot sitting in the back of the bus. Normal folks won't be exposed to your narrow views because you'll be in on the short one.

Word to ibj - :moon:

THIS is why I skip over some of the responses...
Praise gawd.

So? Where are the parents? WHY did they have a kid when they're so poor? ARE they THAT ignorant? These people NEED to go...there are obviously too many of them to be supported by their resources. Probably half or more NEED to die.
sociopath = half or more poor, ignorant people need to die so I can have more for myself. :blowbubbles:

So? Is that "my" problem? I don't have an iPhone!
Your personality problems take precedent. Save your money for the couch.

We all "need" things. Move closer if you don't want to walk so far. It's just a grass hut...easy to relocate.
Yeah, they'll walk while you sit in McDonald's drive-thru in your monster truck.

How about "you"...are you sitting in A/C you type? When YOU give up everything...then I'll begin to take you seriously...as long as you OWN a car, OWN all the latest iGadgets, and burn energy like it's free...do NOT talk to me about "my duty" to help mankind...OK?
Your either zero or eleven (nothing in between.) Rush on eleven is pureeing your brain.

You and all the rest here are hypocrites! you talk shit...yet are unwilling to do yourself what you EXPECT others to do.
We can't get you outta black and white mode to expect you'll understand until you're driving that brand new electric car with 39 horsepower. 0 to 60 in six seconds, faster than your pickup goes downhill.

there's kids in some countries that are being preyed upon by wild animals because there so malnourished...

theres families around the world that walk miles and miles just for water

and here you people sit in your air conditioned/heated homes, behind computer (with wifi connections most of you), and bitch about gas prices because you'll have to drive less...

Yeah but here's the thing, the links you want were in the post you skipped over fool. Also it's not the moon they work with per se but rather wavelengths of light present that you or I don't percieve.

Who says you'll still have the gas option in the future? Remember we're talking about gas going thru the roof. You might change how you feel about that FREEDOM your own gas powered car offers if gas hit say $10 per gallon. Maybe your breaking point would be even lower? Besides if you bothered to read up on what's being discussed, you would find that the 40 mile limit is just for all electric use. The Chevy Volt has a small gas powered generator onboard that gives you an extended range of 375 miles if needed.

Oh and I didn't say public transportation, I said mass transportation, like a highspeed rail system. Remember, I'm only suggesting mass transit for long distances though. I get it though, you're closed minded, so any option someone suggests that doesn't agree with your view, you'll find an excuse why it won't work for you.

Here...I added this to a previous post...

Edit: After a reread, you get more and more absurd! $1.50 a charge? For 40 miles? Riiiight...

Solar panels that work at night... Is this what you meant? http://www.solarpowerwindenergy.org/...work-at-night/ Don't forget to read to the END... "According to Steven, material which is present under those antennas can be created easily. That material will convert IR radiations into electricity. At present there is no that type of material which could serve the purpose."

It's a DREAM...it hasn't been built! And besides...it NOT a "solar" panel...it's an antenna. Solar panels are NOT antennas. And the guy can't even write!

Are you KIDDING me? A GASOLINE generator to recharge the batteries...can you say INefficient? You're going to burn up a LOT more in that extra 335 miles than you would have with a good efficient regular motor!

You know...you're like Head was (hmmm, where is he?) you know a lot of details but don't have the basic background knowledge to put it together. you're like 99% of the population. You hear this and that and people say it's good...but you don't have the basics that let you call bullshit.

There isn't enough "background radiation"...or starlight to run ANYTHING more than a small watch. You'd need HUGE panels. What, do you think the night sky is BRIGHT with some electromagnetic spectrum? No...it's not. Sunlight is the brightest in any spectrum you're going to be able to use on the surface. When it goes down...so does your electricity generation.

So, you're planning on a few hundred thousand trains zooming all over the country? Remember, you MUST account for EVERY car on the interstates right now. They ALL have a destination. Plus the trucks...you need trains for all of them too. I'd say you're going to need about 200,000 trains? And I guess...fuck the Indians huh? You know ALL those motels will close when the interstates turn into railroad tracks. :)

We DO need to make changes...I admit that freely...but when, by whom, and how much? We can't afford to completely revamp our transportation infrastructure...we can't. We need a way to keep individual vehicles, but more efficiency. We need to stop wasting oil on things another source can fill...like generating electricity. NG must become a part of transportation.

We need a NEW technology...power from sand would be ideal...this way the Arabs get to keep control! Seriously...we're at the brink...we NEED a new discovery...we need another Einstein. We need Jed to go hunting...

there is much waste, in a strange way, this is a good thing because this gives a 'buffer'
if we were at a near 100% efficiency, the outlook would be very grim
one thing that could be done is integration of public transportation with internet connectivity
most people hate public transportation for long waits at public stops, inefficient schedules(from a user's point of view)
if we can get to a point where you have comfortable waiting spots, delays are minimal, and flexibility of accommodations(for parcels, etc.), you get a more receptive public opinion of public transportation
say you have instantaneous access through your smart phone, you can see where transport is, where it will be, and no longer waits than 5 minutes
public transport isn't so bad then

Wow, a citation! :thank you: Pesky facts and gut reaction come together in harmony.

Don't forget to read to the END... "According to Steven, material which is present under those antennas can be created easily. That material will convert IR radiations into electricity. At present there is no that type of material which could serve the purpose."

There goes that gut again. Maybe a dose of Malox?

You know...you're like Head was (hmmm, where is he?) you know a lot of details but don't have the basic background knowledge to put it together. you're like 99% of the population. You hear this and that and people say it's good...but you don't have the basics that let you call bullshit.
You're a lot like ibj. You know few details and rely on talking points. Rush would eat an owl sammich to your comments. That makes you like 1% of the population, you comment and then you're corrected.

So what, you already said we'd blow the grid. Why should anything else you say make a flip?

So, you're planning on a few hundred thousand trains zooming all over the country? Remember, you MUST account for EVERY car on the interstates right now. They ALL have a destination.
How about a half-billion pickup trucks (for starters.) We MUST have at least two gas suckers in EVERY garage.

That's a great idea, ibj. Just think, the auto-workers union is the largest in the country. Think about all those union jobs making all those bad-ass pickup trucks. Rush might stop taking your listener calls. You know, the ones that start with "Kudos, Rush......"

Plus the trucks...you need trains for all of them too. I'd say you're going to need about 200,000 trains? And I guess...fuck the Indians huh? You know ALL those motels will close when the interstates turn into railroad tracks. :)
More for your final solution?

We DO need to make changes...I admit that freely...
And you freely REPEAT we can't do it. Oh, wait. I've seen this movie. ibj saves the day with an epiphany, a sound energy policy and independence from foreign energy sources. Wonder what the sequel will be like? RUSH HOUR 2 TON.

but when, by whom, and how much? We can't afford to completely revamp our transportation infrastructure...we can't. We need a way to keep individual vehicles, but more efficiency. We need to stop wasting oil on things another source can fill...like generating electricity. NG must become a part of transportation.
We've got what, six miles of sediment in the gulf? Hell, in 6 million years, we won't need natural gas. We'll be able to go back to 1970.

We need a NEW technology...power from sand would be ideal...this way the Arabs get to keep control! Seriously...we're at the brink...we NEED a new discovery...we need another Einstein. We need Jed to go hunting...
You got a shotgun ibj. Go shootin' at some food. I bet you already know how to whittle, clod hop and play a jug with Flat n Scruggs. Oh they're dead now. Maybe Billy Ray Cyrus.

Actually, telecommuting is probably the next step. On a massive scale. How many of us MUST actually be in the "work building"? Probably not many white collar workers. We could probably cut 25% easily by letting more people telecommute. But then, being home, they'll probably use more energy than if they were at work...cutting into savings. A lot of working couples turn their heat/AC down, the TV is off, the oven isn't used, hot water, etc.

You need to "clean up" public transportation if you want regular successful people to use it. I mean clean up the people riding it. I stopped as soon as I could afford to...I was tired of riding with bums. When traveling...your companions MATTER!

You are right about the buffer...many say we're already living in it...it was the 70's when it was suggested we'd entered peak oil...that's when the whole efficiency thing started too. Have we been living on borrowed time? Are we still? How much more can we save?

The only thing I do positively know/believe is that IF we start running out of oil...in a serious way...things will get really ugly really fast...and a LOT of people are going to die. Oil IS as important as air, water, and food to modern civilization and modern people.

We NEED a new technology or we need to exploit nuclear...or solar if we can REALLY get the efficiency up. But the problem again with solar is YOU possess it and there is no monthly "usage charge" like utilities charge now. Plus you have these huge battery replacement costs down the line. you have to keep the panels clean. Check/service bearings There's more to solar/wind than just place and forget.

I don't even take the bus why do I have to keep paying for it again?? It was built 8 years ago. LOL Can you say corrupt, corrupt, corrupt lol peace out Headband707

Okay well go buy a Chevy Volt and then sue them for false advertisement. You rather then rereading what I said maybe you should read the information at the sites I posted links to. I mean actually read them and comprehend the words rather then skim over it and try to guess what it all meant.

Solar panels that work at night... Is this what you meant? http://www.solarpowerwindenergy.org/...work-at-night/ Don't forget to read to the END... "According to Steven, material which is present under those antennas can be created easily. That material will convert IR radiations into electricity. It's a DREAM...it hasn't been built! And besides...it NOT a "solar" panel...it's an antenna. Solar panels are NOT antennas. And the guy can't even write!

He can write fine but apparently you can't read or copy and paste because there is nowhere on the page that it says what you are saying it says. It is a panel you moron the antenna is the part that hasn't been created. What are you like butthead when you read? "words, words, words, antenna! hhuh huh he said antenna"

Are you KIDDING me? A GASOLINE generator to recharge the batteries...can you say INefficient? You're going to burn up a LOT more in that extra 335 miles than you would have with a good efficient regular motor!

Comprehension isn't your strong suit is it? No dumbass the generator isn't to recharge the batteries, it's to provide a current to power the car for an additional 300+ miles after the initial battery charge is used up.

You know...you're like Head was (hmmm, where is he?) you know a lot of details but don't have the basic background knowledge to put it together. you're like 99% of the population. You hear this and that and people say it's good...but you don't have the basics that let you call bullshit.

Sure I do I call your bullshit pretty much daily.

You can't even properly cut and paste and yet we're supposed to believe you know all about the electromagnetic spectrum of the night sky or what cutting edge solar panel technology is?

So, you're planning on a few hundred thousand trains zooming all over the country? Remember, you MUST account for EVERY car on the interstates right now. They ALL have a destination. Plus the trucks...you need trains for all of them too. I'd say you're going to need about 200,000 trains? And I guess...fuck the Indians huh? You know ALL those motels will close when the interstates turn into railroad tracks. :)

No I wasn't planning anything at all. I was making suggestions. Workable suggestions that can start off existing infrastructure and is something the public has some familiarity with already. One train can replace alot more cars then you think because alot of people drive around by themselves. Nor would I have to account for every car on the interstates because not every car on the interstates is going long distance. Remember the train idea was for long distance. Also the train was never meant to be the only thing it was just one example, another would be planes. As for trucks no I don't need to account for those. Trucks like pickups sure but your 18 wheelers is a whole different ball of wax because that's distribution, not someone going for a cruise just because they got a tank full of gas.

We DO need to make changes...I admit that freely...but when, by whom, and how much?

As soon as possible
All of us
As much as we can reasonably do

We need a NEW technology...power from sand would be ideal...this way the Arabs get to keep control! Seriously...we're at the brink...we NEED a new discovery...we need another Einstein. We need Jed to go hunting...

Sure a new Discovery like Mr. Fusion would be nice, maybe some benevolent alien race will come along and give us the blueprint for how to make them? How about rather then throwing the baby out with the bathwater we work on improving the things we got? Why try to invent something that doesn't exist anywhere but in the movies when there are new technologies already in the works that just need to be fine tuned?

I'm sorry Ibjamming, but my beliefs no longer allow me to participate in this discussion with you.

“Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you have learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.” (Romans 16:17)

“A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it, but knowledge is easy to him who understands. Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.” (Proverbs 14:6)

Wishing you enlightenment

Perhaps I am brainwashed/conditioned whatever you call it, perhaps we all are. Perhaps I am not.

You know Hitler also wanted to "cull the human herd" as you stated, and he killed off 5.8 million Jews. And your asking me whose side I'm on ?

I'm definitely not on the side that encourages mass genocide, I can tell you that much.

If things hit the fan in this country, and death is unavoidable, then I will face it with no fear in my heart. Can you say the same ?

btw, this is all very :off2:
