Hey ICmagers,

This is my first grow in quite awhile and my first grow log since OG ( with a different name) went down; so it's been a few years....

I was cleaning out my fridge a couple days ago and I stumbled on a Festivus miracle....A tiny Tupperware container with 5 of Chimera's Schnazzleberry #2's and 5 MIS freebies.

I thought about it for close to 5 minutes and decided to get back to growing and give the Schnazz a run again if they would pop.

These beans have been in cold storage for at least 2 years since I got them so I wasn't sure what I'd get. 5 taps in 24 hours is what I got and they are now taking a dirt nap in a Rubbermaid

Not much happening right now, but if they take off and I get a good girl I'm going to build up a nice multilayer micro grow in a section of a walk-in closet.

I was pretty stoked about it and shocked actually....

Forgot to add that I'm using a pretty standard mix of:

5 parts Peat
3 parts perlite
2 parts worm castings and mushroom compost (didn't have enough worm poo)
Powdered dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon

Going to use FF Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, Liquid Karma when it's time.

Nothing above ground yet but I wanted to share a tip I use for sprouting seeds.

Clear plastic cups for humidity domes until they break the surface...keeps the top layer from drying out and speeds up the process IMHO:

Had to help one out a little. It was out of the seed shell but there was a clear hard membrane or something still wrapped around the cotyledons. It's the one that's not quite opened all the way yet. So far so good with 2 year old seeds.

Hey man thanks for stopping by my thread! It looks like your box is similar sized to mine, can you share some details on the specs?
Nice to see those old seeds are working out, one of my current plants was a three-year-old bagseed that was kept in an air/light tight environment, and it is doing very well. I'll have to keep my eye on this grow.

Hey AT thanks for stopping by my thread

This grow is about as simple as it gets at this point. I'm just using one rubbermaid tub with the lights mounted to the cover. This used to be my old mum/clone tub and it worked very well for that. Ventilation is just a hole cut on the bottom at one end and a hole cut at the top of the other; the hot air flows out on its own. I don't need to exhaust with a fan because it's in a cold basement and temps are perfect right now. I even had to set it inside another tub to keep the temps up in the high 70's.

Lights are just a 4 socket strip fixture from casa despot with 2-26 W cool CFLs and 2 smaller warm CFLs more for heat than anything else at this point.

I have a 2 tub flower box I can use in a pinch, but I'm not going to sink any more into this until I'm sure I have at least one healthy girl to work with. I have a closet in a back room that will be perfect to make a multi-tiered grow cab in and basically everything to build it with, just waiting on a girl right now....

btw, if you add Y splitters to your sockets you can have 8 bulbs instead of 4, you may already know this but, just in case, lol.

I haven't smoked in well over a year so it's tough looking at all the tasty buds on this site while I surf for new info...There really is no other medicine that helps as much as the Schnazz#2 does so I hope it turns out....

I've been doing some planning ahead and research today for the future grow space. It's 26" wide x 20" deep x 8' high. I have plenty of headroom so I want to stack flower/veg/clone areas on top of each other.

I was thinking the best place for flowering would be at the bottom where I can keep temps the coolest especially during summer. Veg and clones above the flower chamber would benefit from warmer temps more than flowering plants.

I want to use a 150 W HPS for flowering because they are cheap. $40 for the fixture with a bulb and the bulbs are cheaper than a 42W cfl some places. I've always had good luck with HPS and it's easy enough to keep the area cool with a remote ballast.

Wishful thinking for now I guess,

have you considered CMH or PL-L's? ...say a 150watt CMH for flowering with PL-L's for moms and vegging.

the reason i ask is because many believe the CMH superior to HPS and if you check the spectral graphs, this seems to hold true, i know i LOVE my CMH, i just can't say definitively whether it's better or not because i upgraded from 2x 150HPS to 1x 400CMH, plus, i went from a DIY cool-tube into a store bought SuperSun hood, so impossible to quantify how much better the CMH might be over an equal HPS set-up.

I have thought about CMH, but the main reason I am going HPS is price...$50 for the fixture with an extra bulb is cheap compared to an extra $50 for the CMH bulb alone and the difference in such a small grow would have to be huge to justify spending the extra cash. Max yield isn't really a major concern for me either since I'm only growing for myself.

I already have a couple boxes of the cool white 26 w cfls to use up and the fixtures also otherwise I would check out the 55w PLL's. I have seen some great grows here with those already.

I will definitely check the forums and compare CMH w/ HPS though; now I'm curious. I did a quick search and found 250 CMH lamps but I didn't want to go that high with the wattage.

Good luck with these 5 babes.
I had good luck with my 4 year old freebie Nirvana Citral seeds I popped back in October. Germed three on a paper towel inside a tupperware container and all three sprouted tails. I got two females which you saw in my new cab.
They are back under the twin 85w 6500k CFLs in my speaker box for completion of the 1 sf challenge.
Nothing like finding some forgotten beans to get you back to growing.
