A 67-year-old Murrieta resident has died from injuries sustained when he was attacked by the family’s pit bull nearly two months ago, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

Edward Mitchell died just after 11 p.m. Sunday at his home in the 24000 block of Tuscola Circle, the coroner said in a news release posted Wednesday.

The incident is being investigated by the Murrieta Police Department.

Mitchell and a pit bull named Shadow and two Chihuahuas were on the backyard patio when the attack occurred, animal control investigators said. Mitchell had been disciplining the dog when it turned on him, mauling his throat and groin, police Lt. Dennis Vrooman said.

According to the coroner’s office, Mitchell died from “complications of his injuries after being attacked by family’s pit bull” on Oct. 14. No other information is available.

If I were to quote the gems of good advice, this post would be nothing but cut n paste. That being said, the old dude seems to be touching senelity. Or he's pissed at the world and and wants to punish the world for it.

IME,9.5 pitts out of 10 are running to humans for affection. (Punish the deed not the breed, don't ya know)

My advice: Mind your own. Keep the "snitch" in the mental files as a possible security issue.

Oh, in a perfect world you would have 5 acres to do with as you please. But the .gov wont allow that.

Get along with all, and alliances with none.

Was this the first incident with the dog or is the owner an irrisponsible douche?
After all, (depending on personal belief) Man is to animal as God is to Man.

^yeah you can probably find alot of pittbull mauling stories but the truth is that it only represents like .001% of the total pitt population. most are really nice if trained good.

And if a random dog wanders onto my property how do I know how it was trained? Even if it was well trained, like another said I don't want poop on my lawn and I just plain dont want random animals on it either. Sorry dude....if something else had happened you might have a case but this time even if cranky the old guy had a right to be annoyed. Best to let this just fade away...

yes i do agree that maybe this is not the best case scenario, but it shows that this guy has "calling the cops" on his mind and is using it to threaten other neighbors. which disturbs me because i grow right across the street lol. so i just gotta take this as a lesson, and try to appear even more squarebear than before.

the owner of the pitbul is just a normal guy with a kid and pregnant wife the pitbull has gotten loose before because i helped them wrangle her in one night. she did full charge at me and i just stood my ground and pulled a spanish bullfighter move and grabbed her collar and wrassled her back to the house. she was trying to lick me the whole time, shes very friendly. the owner mentioned he was gonna build a kennel out back for it, because it lives in the front yard with no fence just attached to a leash.

my neighbor is a coward tattletale snitch. its not grow related, so no worries. but here is the story.

i leave my grow today and as im getting into my car i hear two of my neighbors getting into a fight with eachother. i hear one of the neighbors yell "im gonna call the sherriffs department".

turns out its over a pittbull. neighbor number 1's pitbull got loose and ran into snitch neighbors yard. snitch neighbor threatened to call the cops.

i almost wanted to stop, and yell at the snitch to mind his own business. the fact that my grow is on the block made me just shut up and not say anything...but i was FURIOUS!! i am now very wary of snitch neighbor, he is a total failure at life IMO now. how should i deal with him?
dont sound like a snitch to me . he was asserting his rights. if the neighbor cant controll his dog.some people shouldnt have pets if they cant properly take care of em

sounds like they shouldnt own a dog especially one that can kill. just cause it might like you and yours dont mean it will feel that way about a stranger. your way off base. tell them to get a poodle. and your neighbor is right.

why!!! they arent that dangerous....im only maybe 150 lbs and its half my size but its still pretty easy to just grab it by the collar and be dominant. you guys talking abuot shooting the dog are some idiots, no need to shoot it unless its teeth are baring and its really trying to attack someone.

i doubt you would have time to get your gun in time anyways...if a baby was in immediate danger there is no time for the gun. gotta tackle the pittbull and put it in a headlock lol. the key with dogs is to be DOMINANT with them.

I know a few people that have pits. None of them are "walk up and pet me dogs". The owners don't even trust them around their pre-teen children. I also know a lady that bred pits. She said the same thing. They arent dangerous, its the owners...yadda-yadda-yadda. Well, one night for no reason at all one of her pits jumped into her bed and attacked her out of the blue.

I don't care how many pitbull organizations/owners there are that claim the breed is submissive and gentle, I've never met a pitbull (or rotty for that matter), that I would be comfortable around.

Also, gotta give the OP credit if he feels he can physically take down an attacking 75 lb pit. Im 240 lbs, and doubt I would be able to do it.

As for shooting a dog, Im a big dog person (heck, Id rather spend time with my dog than spend time with people), but if an aggressive dog was in my yard and I felt threatened it would be a dead dog.

my friend has a pitbull protecting his grow...she is usually calm but i have seen her flip out and attack one of my friends who tried to take away one of her toys. she tried to bite him in the face...we all got up started yelling and my buddy had to start beating the dog back into submissiveness.

the key with aggressive dogs is to be dominant, but sometimes thats hard when they are so huge. my buddy also has a husky that i will not touch, if anyone except the owner even brushes by his fur he starts to growl.....he will kill any other dog on sight too already killed a few strays.

Anyways you don't have to actually shoot the dog unless you like that sort of thing. If you just shoot at the dog at all it will not come back to your property.

You heard somebody threaten to call the cops and you wish they would mind their own business.

Why don't you mind your own business?

i dont give a shit what any1 says its all in a dogs upbringing 1 dog in 1000 is a bad one from birth but you can tell within the first few weeks of training. you need to spend a lot of time a with dog when its young, like every hour of the day to teach it right from wrong just like a human child.
my dog never has a lead she follows me at 2 foot behind me everywhere i go, she looks to me to give her the go ahead anytime she wants to investigate somthing, we are a team. i control her, she doesnt control me. she would never ever run into some1's yard unless i told her to. all my dogs, and my familys dogs are like it because we know how to train them properly. the problem is most people get dogs for the wrong reasons and dont give them the attention or time they require to be accepted in society. i would never have a dog if i couldnt control it.

sorry for the rant guys

ps the thread starter sounds like he needs a smoke and forget about the whole thing imo

Watch your self This guy could very well become a pain in the ass. He has trouble written all over him. Keep your filter in tip top shape don't be slacking. If your going to have troubles it may very well be him. I have been down this road with the same type of person. Everytime I see my buddy he gets the Middle finger even when the cops are standing there.

Some folks are afraid of dogs. Especially certain breeds.

I don't know this dog or its owner or how many times the "snitch" in question has had to deal with this particular dog. I do know that in some places, a dog wandering onto private property might get shot. Especially a habitual offender.

Calling the cops COULD be a reasonable way to address the situation in some cases.

I'm scratching my head wondering just why you are considering drawing attention to yourself for the stated reason while maintaining a grow nearby...........
