just cut the top 8 inches off of another 5 gallon bucket and use it as a spacer between the your current inner and outer buckets

As said above BS , the more rootmass built before end of stretch will beyond a shadow of a doubt outperform the other plants from increased efficiency of nutrient uptake during the swelling process till end of cycle.......

Keep us updated Bro......Killer root porn.....

Hey DHF!

I'm not trying to change the world. Not just yet anyway. :)

I just want a little performance gain without a lot of risk. This is only my second grow with this system. So far, I'm pleased with this little piece of tubing on the rim.

I don't think the PVC pipe in the bottom bucket would work for me. I like to move them around and at least rotate them. I'm afraid there could be a lot of root damage if there was a piece of 3" pvc standing up in the bottom of the bucket. But, I haven't tried it.

I just did this on a whim. I had no intention of conducting this ""experiment"" (double quotes intentional) when I started this thread.

All feedback welcome!! Bigger and better always smiled upon.

I'm trying the tubing trick on a bucket, and it's probably the easiest and best idea for bucket spacing I have ever seen. Nice job.

I might try this idea also; maybe with a less expensive, similarly sized bucket as the 2 1/2 gal stock E&G.

Thanks HashZeppelin!

If you want to raise your ebb n grow pots up you can, cut a measured piece of lets say 2in to 4in pvc put the cirular piece of pvc inside the outer bucket and set the inner bucket with plant ontop of the pvc. You can raise the inner buckets up to whatever you cut you pvc length but becarefull not to raise them too much when you first transplant. Im sure you can figure it out.

I just found this out from www.suretogrowvideo.com I learned a few tricks with the ebb n grow system from them. Look for the video Ebb n Grow Hydro Tech Tips on the right and the other ebb n grow videos.

Ps. Im running close to 40 buckets on the CAP ebb n grow and Im thinking about ditching hydroton and trying the sure to grow 8inx8in cylinders thats how I found the videos. I reccomend checking them out I learned something.

Just realized your first post said the same thing I just did lol sorry for the repeated info.

sorry if this was already mentioned but I did not notice it anywhere.

I picked up a standard sized cap ebb and grow. But also picked up 1 extra inter bucket (withholes) for each site. then once my outer bucket has roots curled nicely around the inside of it, I will carefully pick it out and set another inter bucket inside, and the rootbound bucket inside of that.

and that will then double the space under the original inter pale.

hope that made sense, I have not yet made it to that point yet but see no reason why it wont work. I will also raise my controller about 3/4" to raise the water level in the pots.
if you want to know were to get the inter baskets I will pm you the web site.

I run suspended 1 gal buckets inside my ebb buckets. I use a square cardboard with reflective material cut out a circle in the middle and lay it on top of the bucket. I'm still tooling around with how to keep the roots out of the filter though. I'm trying some mesh screen material
