I'm going to assemble a pc grow box soon, but I have one thing not figured out, what's the safest and just the best way of fixing the bulb sockets into the pc, just gluing the sockets on the metal side doesn't sound good, since the wires are gonna be exposed on the bottom of the socket (aren't they?), and them touching the metal probably wouldn't be too good, I was thinking about taking a small wooden plank, and screwing the sockets to it and then gluing the whole thing to the side, but again, wouldn't that make a fire hazard (wires touching the wood) ? So if anyone has any advice, I'd would be really thankful

wafflemanwillis - how much W u run in that PC mate?
Elephunk - are those PL-L's in there? the plant looks tasty to me :)
UniXx - i think it depends on the type of sockets you have access to and . Im sorry that my english is not verry good to describe, but with some you wont have naked wires . If the naked wires are touching only the base and carving of the socket, you have nothing to worry about.

PC case fan grates

PC case fan grates

So you know how computer cases come with places for the fans, and the aluminum has a circular grate cut out?

Does this reduce the effectivness of the fan? I don't recall seeing anyone who has cut these grates out. Wouldn't a regular hole work better than a grate for air flow?

Should they be cut out? How? Use a small grinder wheel on a dremmel? Why don't people do this? Too hard?

I did that with my pc case. I also cut out the rear exhaust one. It def helped out with some more airflow.

@ MrSterling:

a.d 1 I have never had any issues with odours during veg. Maybe some strains would smell a bit.

a.d 2 There are many ways to do it, it has been discussed many times here. I do it by installing electric socket (the same as it is in your wall) inside a pc. It's connected to the cable that comes out of my PC (look as in normal PC from outside).

If you have this done you can do whatever you want. I actually have two sockets in my pc. One is to power 2 energy supplies (i use power supplies from some different devices) which are connected to the fans. The second socket has a timer installed and powers the lights.

I use 4 x 23W CFL which are all wired to one cable. They are held in position by the glass that also separates them from the plants.

this last picture is an old one, before I installed light catchers

peace

p.s hope my English is understandable ;)

lob19 how did you make light catchers? my exhaust fan is in the back of my pc where the power supply would be? an the light comes straight through my fan. i wanna light trap it but had no idea how.

:gday: everyone,

I'd like to show you my pc box. First of all, this is my first grow ever i tend not to be good with one hand but eventually I could finish my pc box. so please be indulgent towards me :thank you:

My installation is pretty much rudimentary, However it might work.

Here is some pics ..

(4x23W CFL)
(1 exhaust fan, intakepassive)
(No filter yet)
(Temperature Bw 22°C-24°C 72-75F)

I'm planning to switch to flowering mode in a few days, what do u reckon??

Another question, one of my friend gave me this purifying machine, I heard apparently that it might suck up all the smell of weed .. ????
Anyway if not, I won't have to make a carbon filter and will just use this puryfying machine.

Last question, as you can see on the last picture but one, i didn't put any reflecting for light, should I??

I love remarks ;)

Cheers,

Niok34 nice start man looks really good i hope you get a girl!

So anyway i had a small box over my exhaust fan for light trap it had holes in the top an bottom to suck the air through.. an i dont know if temps were high or not but 2 plants were in 12/12 from seed 1st plant showed balls day 25 got chopped day 32 second plant started to droop leaves going down an shriveled looking.. so i watered put back in box thinkin it needed water an in the morning was totally shriveled.. was it my heat?? only had to 23w cfls an was gonna add one more for flowering.. so now i have no light trap so i know its straight air flow but i really need one so no hermie is done to plants

Hey Niok34, good looking plant and nice setup. I might be wrong but she looks a little thirsty.

One thing i would tell ya is be ready tie down branches and if smell is going to be a major concern then making a carbon filter will put your nerves at ease over any other alternative.
Unless of course, what ur talking about is an ionizer then, although i haven't had experience with one, i think those work great.

If you put a screen in there and train ur plant through it, it would efficiency use the little amount of space available and maximize ur yield.

As far as a reflector they are pretty easy to make for the extra lumans and imo its worth it. Heres a youtube video of a pop can reflector. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpX1fYaDdkQ

Hope this was helpful. Good luck with your grow, i hope it turns out great.

@ lob19 what do you usually yield in your space with 4 23w's

Ok i will be able to pick up a thermometer.. But what about light traps my whole fan is uncovered exposing all that light comin from inside the computer when its on then when the lights are out it is daytime here which the daylight covers the room an will leak inside the fan an hermie such lovely ladys
