I started using these a few months back
Theyre "CocoTek" and I guess usually are used as liners for net pots. The concept being the same as an AirPot / SmartPot where the root tips die when they grow into the liner & are exposed to air. This supposedly encourages a more robust root system because the roots don't just follow the container. I'm going to saw some root balls in 1/2 when theyre done & see if I can tell the difference

Funny, yesterday I was at a collective was showing a dude my book and he asked if I had used smart pots before because he saw a coco fiber pot in my book. I dont really know what a smart pot is but he said its just specially woven material that stops the roots and requires the plant to start new roots from the very center of the pot/stalk so it seems the plant would hold tighter in the pot....
anyways I thought it was interesting to come home and see you guys chatting about it, I dont remember how crazy the roots were but I know they were damn thick with these pots....

i am still unconvinced after reading this thread:

^^ i've used airpots, theyre super sick, but make a bit of a mess when using soil.
but, the coco pots rock, as long as you work with the right size and dont have to transplant more than twice. cause each time you do, you lose roots that are stuck to the pot, and that adds an extra 2 days or so for recovery.
I use them in veg for all my plants, and it works AWESOME, but not in flower because of the roots poping trough and gettin hps'ed like a mofo..haha.

From my limited experience so far, I'm thinking this is how I'll handle using the CocoTek pots in the future...
I'm planting my clones in the 4" CocoTek cups, when these are very well rooted, I'm going to fill my 8" CocoTek pots almost to the very top with growing medium and simply place my 4" rooted cups on top. No removal of the Cocotek...just let the roots grow on through. It should avoid the shock your talking about

natagonnaworrie what are you growing your fire in? i use coco but shes just so finicky that im considering just switching her to soil. i think og's tend to do better in soil. smell better and morth earthy also. your pics are def something im drooling over. lol lucky you.
sub i know you run this lady also so any suggestions are more than welcome. oh and your socal master is looking stellar. your pumping out all kinds of good crosses cant wait totry some.
cali green it looks like your plants are being underfed, more nitrogen brother. maybe bump up the calmag a bit. also do you keep em in a small container to create that bonsai look right..? i usually keep em in 20 oz cups to help control height. by the time i transfer them there so bushy they hardly even need any more veg.

Those Coco pots are good for veg and then transfer straight into flowering ...the roots bust right out of the coco cup when u transfer into another medium.....i have been using the 3" 6" 8" for about a year now.......veg them in the 3" under t5's then trasnfer them in stages like that....next the 6" pot then the 8"...after you have reached your desired height transfer them into 5+gallon sized smart pots....flowering in those 8" coco pots is going to give a small yield.....
You can yield 2lbs per light of OG all day in those smart pots....4 plants per square foot no veg time ...just did this with the Cali Club OG and almost pulled 3 lbs on a 1000 watt light...those smart pots allow those roots to grow crazy ...i've done the 4 per square foot in regualr pots only to watch my plants stretch for high hell and yield small....Smartpots are awsome....if you irrigate them the right way....top feed always....waste to drain.....
Sunshine Mix #4 in those Coco pots will blow plain Coco out the water.....try it out sometime

FFOF cut with 30% Chunky perlite. Add Lime, M. Fungi, shit... i'm drawing a blank. Nothing fancy. In veg i only fert if needed and if it do its maxicrop liquid seaweed or neptunes fish emulsion. Thats shit's the shit.

natagonnaworrie look up smarpots in google bro it gives you a direct link to their site and they sell them there also. cheaper than the hydro shops. look at the compost pot they have too that right there is interesting. thnks for the tip in the soil thats exactly what i plan on putting this girl in. its suppose to that ogr cut aint it.? your using ff like he does so the nuggs should look pretty similar to ghe pics on the farm. i have yet to see anyone with nuggs that resemble any of his. not trying to start nothing. im just saying..
