UK Outdoor Growing 2010

hello liquid, how deep do you scratch? just the lightest scratch to just barely graze the surface? or a bit deeper? cheers.

harold, ... really you are wanting to scratch off the surface skin/layer to reveal some virgin/fresh tissue for the hormone powder to act upon. Imagine how a tree and our cannabis plant has two layers of skin/bark ... you wanna get through the outer skin and scratch up the surface of the inner skin. The stem below the dicotelydons is different somehow than the stem above. The stem above can remain hollow for a long time whilst the stem below will become solid and woody as the plant reaches about a month old or a foot or more tall.
So i'm suggesting you only do this to plants that are old enough ... plants that have developed a woody base of the mainstem. ie. a plant 4-6 weeks old (depending on how fast it grows).

But back to the actual scratching .... don't be too shy. I scratched so mutch of the outer layer off that there was almost none left because i wanted a larger area of virgin flesh for roots to grow from. And there is no harm in this. So just scratch it up, pull of any stringy bits, wet with water and apply rooting powder/gel. Bury the stem and make sure the soil around it remains moist and in contact for a good week afterwards, yet at the same time try not to water too mutch that you wash away all the rooting powder. I use a spray bottle and just spray around the stem if i feel the soil is too dry.

I was lucky to have the use of my mini greenhouse, it was warm and humid but they also spent time outdoors. I would just try to not let the soil get too cold.

Oh i just had a thought! If you don't have a greenhouse you could enclose the whole base of the plant ... pot and everything in a plastic bag to hold warmth and humidity. Probably a good idea to open it now and again though.

- And i just remembered that i have actually grown something since i last posted on these forums (or whereever it was). The last grow i showed you guys was the biddy early F2s i was gifted from yoshi along with 'The doctor' from ghs and some lowryders.

So my last grow was some feminised 'Opium' from paradise seeds and very nice it was too. A mid october harvest and no mould but plants were small cause' of late start, small holes and poor soil.
I'd reccomend this variety to anyone. We know the sensi star and nebula finish in time here and you can add the Opium to that list also.
Stupidly i gave away the auto AK beans that lowlife kindly gave me?! Why?!!

This is a great tool. A mini pickaxe. I didn't need the small trowel i took along. Knock out the handle and it fits into my 20ltr backpack.

cheers for the insect input guys. After hearing about adders and wasps nests i feel i was lucky to get away with a couple of stings (don't think that an earwig could have don't that mind-lol). I got bitten to shit again last night planting back on last years marsh site

i can't answer the question on how late is it worth planting-but shall be able to answer in the autumn as my friend has been characteristically late in comming up with his cuttings, so we will be putting them out throughout July to see what happens.

LL-your scarification method will be useful (obviously) for indoor grows as well as I am always potting up the stems of plants to try and keep the height down

onwards and upwards

Well it's not rocket science but getting anything to root can be hit or miss depending on materials/environment ect.... until you find a system that works for you. The cheap homebase compost i have my cuttings in has gone rather mouldy and i don't think thats helping, so after 5 days i've taken the poly bags off and watered them like proper plants. I'll give them a few more days and then investigate to see if i have any roots from any. If they havn't rooted by then, they probably won't. I see some growth but that could just be from energy the cutting already had and the moisture taken in by leaves and stem.

Minime ... are you still gonna try the colloidal silver you mentioned some pages back? I'd be interested to know how that works out for you? As always your garden makes me insanely jealous, but total admiration for the work you put in and the ballsy attitude generally.

-about your potted plants, i'd put them in the soil just to give them that bit of room so both roots and plant can expand a bit more... and hopefully also the buds.

A little bit of what you fancy

A little bit of what you fancy

Just a few from my plot .

From right . Right row rear , Dutch Dragon & AAWW 2nd from right AAH f1 , 3rd from right AAH f2 . left hand rows (smaller plants) AAH f1 & f2 Sativa phenos .

Zeds & BGB`s Indica/MLow x ? some of these are autos .

AK clones in anti deer enclosure .

more AK clones .

Zeds AAH f1

Things are really starting to pick up now , luckily with these plants they can have a daily watering if needed . With the mixed plot the bright green things you may see in the pots are small bundles of scaffold netting with lumps of Irish Spring wired to canes about 18-24ins off the ground & no damage from the Muntjacs (yet) this year . Normally by now the bastards have stripped a few plants but this year they are keeping off of them . 35mt from my plot is a fox earth with 3 adult kiddie munchers , 2 vixen & a dog + young uns & they seem to be keeping the rabbit numbers down as i hav`nt seen a sign of bunny munching . 1st time i`ve tried Irish Spring but along with the sprinkling of stale urine i may have cracked it :jump:

Stay green .

Hope everyone who has plants out in the wilds is getting the same rain i'm getting today! It's totally pissing down now. I think we needed it. And i do hope also that anyone treating and burying their stems has the same success i did.

MJBadger ... nice plants!

- I'm so glad that this year i got my plants to a good size before planting in the wilds, before now i've had to 'bareroot' my plants for transportation also but not this year. I have bigger plants and bigger holes than i've ever had and not had to bareroot them. I'm real happy. I 'might' actually get a worthwhile harvest if i'm lucky. Although i have grown in recent years outdoors, harvests have not been bountiful.

great to see everyone's plants prospering.

no rain here, still hot and sunny. will probably have to go on a watering tour tomorrow unless we get some rain too. i need to organize a better water carrying method then filling plastic juice bottles.

Gaiusmarius ... i've suggested using a plastic funnel to sink into the soil to make sure that precious water (from the juice bottles) gets to the roots where it's needed.

Well my cuttings havn't done so well, out of about 15 just one has rooted so i am actually really happy. I think the soil i had them in was not kept wet enough. I have them all in a mug of water now to give them one final chance. At least i can pamper the one that did root.
- So now i'm concerned you guys treating your stems aren't gonna keep the soil wet enough. *faints with the burden and responsibility of it all*

:)

Hey guys,I've been so poor updating recently, Ive been mad busy, you know how life goes.

I originally germed a mixture of 25 auto MTF and MTFxINDI, only 9 left standing after I killed all the males, I also lost a few at the start due to the cold spell we had.
TPS, I got quite a few MTFxINDI males too, it must be coincidence though.

Heres 2 auto MTFxINDI at about a foot and a half, had a slow start but have absolutley loved this nice weather we have had recently. Ive not fed them once, theyve only had the blood and fish bone mixed into the soil but no sign of N deficiency at all, will give them a blast on the tomorite soon though as they're starting to flower quite rapidly now. Quite impressed with all the auto's so far, starting to smell delicious too :D

MJBadger- garden is looking awesome, have you cut the bottoms off your pots or are you putting them in the ground?

Peace

gaiusmarius.... go to your local tent/camping shop and have a gander @ there 10 litre water bottles, the slim versions are a perfect fit for my record bag, will post a pic soon.
The wide mouth bottles are heavy duty and fill up quick, say when your filling up at your local stream. The standard drink bottle sized containers take an age filling up, not stealthy!

Hi soul , no cut bottoms i`m just pot growing . All the plants in the pics are 10lt pots so are AK clones & i have some Biddy Early & Sis in 45lt . The Dutch Dragon were a freebie & look to be a big plant so i may up the pot size if needed , in fact i will increase pot size on any that will need it . Already have some 35lt pots with compost ready for the EG/MM x GG# /GG . Apart from any guerilla plants i have out ANY PLANTS i have grown have been in pots . Nice autos .
Please can i have some rain ? theres poor little plants out in the wild all warm & desperately needing a prolonged shower to freshen them up .

Stay green .

Hell yeh, im seriously thinking of learning a rain dance. Most of my plots should be ok as they are within 10m of a water source so the soil deep down around the roots is always damp.In these ones i could go a whole season without watering if i really had to but my other plots are worrying me a little.Going to go on a water/feeding mission tonight if it doesnt rain.
Best get the bug repellent ready!

Auto Island Update

Auto Island Update

Some very nice posts and info everyone

No rain here either! I've been out most nights giving the plants a mist after the sun goes down. It's easy to look after them when they are in your garden tho!

The Auto Island is really going now... You don't really realise when you see the plants every day but the pics tell it all..

This was just after i pulled the Males something like 10 days ago:

Now today :dance013:

The AutoIndi x AutoMTF are the 2 biggest plants...I've just put another 14 seeds into soak so that i can hopefully get some seeds sorted for next season. This plant is 22" tall:

And a pic of a Auto MTF:

A stealthy way to carry 10l of water, fill it up to the brim so it doesn't slosh about and make noise when your walking, wide mouth fills up quickly! squeezes into a record bag like a glove. From my local tent/camping shop, beats filling up 5 drink bottles lol

Finally planted most of my autos, cant believe it took so long... needed to bring in more compost to fluff up the clayey soil. The akxww and bs xlebcheese are looking better now and are slowly taking off. Definately need to bring in compressed coir blocks, hauling 50litres of compost x several visits is a muda chuda.
