I want to grow "tripping weed" what should I get?

As a kid in the 70s, we'd occasionally get some very golden, almost yellow, weed that would fuck you up. We called it "tripping weed" because you almost went there.

I don't remember it having any "real" name like Acapulco Gold or anything like that...it was just "that gold shit that is TOO strong".

So...anyone know what I need to get? I'm looking for people with actual, hands on, grew it personally, experience. Please, no a friend of a friend knew a guy who said their neighbor grew "xxxx" and it was the bomb... I appreciate the good intentions, but I want the real deal...no impostors.

I want a stable, decent flowering time, fuck your shit up, plant to grow.

I've heard of Tom Hills Haze...but 5%? I need better odds than that. I've heard of others... I'd like the people who have grown them, grown the legends, to tell me their experience. Please, only things available now...or will be back in stock.

i grew some willy nelson about a year ago. shit had me as close to tripping as any bud has had me. unfortunatly it took 14 weeks to finish flowering, and that was brutal. it was a really easy plant to grow considering what a long flowering period it has. huge yeild, and some of the best bud i have ever smoked.

Well Durban Poison is famous for its psychedelic effects. We have a cut of a cross between Durban Poison and an unknown IBL from Germany. We call it Oreo. It's the most stimulating 'up', trippy pot I've smoked in my life. Normally, the DP is a bit low in THC, but the German strain kicked it up a few notches.

Well the 5% is for absolutely amazing plants, which is pretty good odds, IMO.
You will find "good" plants in far greater abundance.

As I've said before, if you want the real top stuff you've got to do some searching, and also venture out into the areas of instability and long flowering-times. Sorry, but that's how it is.

I'd suggest
MNS: Neville's Haze, Mango Haze (if you want something more mainstream), or NL5xHaze (special edition, I think). Nev's cuts through anything, and even the most experienced smokers will comment with positive surprise.

The above are also far more likely to give you a keeper (or more) from a pack.
Obviously, forget "short flowering times", 16 weeks is not that long, you know, it's just that everyone's got spoilt on 8-week glitter weed.

5% is the acid pheno not the only good pheno just the very best. and I too appreciate tom's honesty on the subject. when I have the money I will def by a few packs.

id suggest a haze such as the ones suggested above neville haze/tom hill haze/ also it seems som african strain are high in thcv, which i believe has that effect you desire look into /s.africans like durban poison/malawi /nigerian/maybe som indian strains

i recall hempy usin this term before ,but youve used a bit more detail very interesting ,i lov the fact that you say it was golden and hempy believes that it was haze

id lov to hear more on both your experiences wit taste/aromas of this trippin weed

I got hold of what i belive was pure haze in 79 it was called tripping weed here we were getting lids in of acopolco gold around that time to in tims from the us and other things.

You know i never heard the tearm haze here or any other term other than sativa or the name of origin or the sativas name like columbine or pan red and so on.

The only time i heard a name added to a sativa line that was unknown was in 79 and that was tripping weed or tripping heads called by others.

At the time you could basicly get an oz bag of top shelf seedless sativa flowers for $30 dollors but the tripping heads went for $20 or $30 for a dime bag with say around 2 grams so i belive this was haze it was oily looking and very leafy looking flowers nothing to look at but it was lsd in plant matter.

I've heard of Neville's Haze, Mango Haze, etc...what I was looking for was confirmation by actual growers of these strains.

Now, to answer your questions:

No, not Australian...this was NE NJ.

It was around that time, off and on throughout the 70s. And yes, I remember one time in 79, I was in College and got ahold of a QP. It went for $50 an oz...I got one free. It's like you described...VERY yellow...yellow construction paper yellow...and yes, sometimes leafy...but sometimes it was beautiful dense golden almost white nuggets. Fuck, why didn't I save seeds!

And yes...it was LSD you smoked. MANY...MANY people were afraid of it. I've got a buddy that probably still has a glass cigar tube full of it buried in his yard...he smoked it once and put it away. Fucker wouldn't give it up...I tried to get it for years!

That's what I want...smoke-able LSD. But I want it reliable...meaning potency is stable. I don't want to hunt through 20+ plants, I don't have the room. Unless those other 95% are much better than my latest strains...

I guess I'm tired of the ceiling I'm seeing. A few hits or a whole joint doesn't make much of a difference, I get the same buzz...and it's not good enough sometimes.

I want to plant a seed and get tripping weed...why is that so hard? Do I have to dedicate my life to recreating it?

Any of the 22 Haze hybrids Shanti has for sale may do the trick. Certainly anything with Neville's old NL#5 Haze parent has the potential for amazingly trippy effects.
