126w Hydro-Grow LED vs 250w HID, the definitive test

I was told by one of the led manufacturers to except a 30% output degradation within 3 year period
that would have noticeable growth effect
disposable or return the unit for service is not as convenient,my solder skills would fall short
by the info I was given that is why

That's the first time I've ever heard of such a high loss in such a short amount of time.

was the answer I received about expected light loss from one of the led grow light manufacturer representatives in a thread over at grass city
I have no reason to doubt him and no operator experience to comfirm or deny the info

I'd be interested in seeing some independent data on this, or at least the data gathered from the manufacturer's testing to back up these conclusions. Not to try and discredit this person who I know nothing about or you, since I can't say with certainty whether this is the case for high intensity leds. I also think he could have a financial incentive to try and sell you a new unit every few years OR if his company also manufactured hid lighting solutions as well then discrediting this new lower profit line would be a benefit to their more profitable lines for the time being.

would be nice to have some light meter measurements from new to periods of use from an led operator to learn what could be excepted in these regards

Smoke report will be out by Monday.

Frozenguy...good stuff ..i think on ur next strain ur gonna yield big ..hindu crosses arent really good yielders and u worked her like a pro..i have a question..would u get a led for supplemental lighting a 600w hps?? if so would they have 2 be really close 2 the tops?
Hey silverhazefiend  Yeah this hindu cross wasn't the best yielder but I pulled some more out of her the last several runs. I am definitely thinking a combination of HID and LED is going to be awesome. I'm going to do some more tests, and run numbers to see in the end whats better, but the light is great on its own, and will do superbly when matched with HID.

Frozenguy, does this mean you will continue to grow with leds?
If not, what are the reasons?

Still haven't heard much about the footprint of leds and would like to know more about it. Much more even :)

Does anyone know of any good ledunits for sale in Europe?

I found one http://www.dutchgreengrowlights.eu/dutchgreen/home.php with a connected video http://www.youtube.com/user/underdok?blend=2&ob=1#p/a/u/2/zNfm7XSxVPs but they seem to only use 2 wavelengths, 1 blue and 1 red from what I understand, and that is still the first generation build which is supposed to be obsolete. So I find it strange that he gets such good results.

Thanks for the good work, can't wait for the smokereport and maybe some hi-res pics on ledbuds. Cheers!

Yeah I will continue to grow with this LED for sure. I'm not buying another one right now because I'm essentially broke, saving to transfer colleges. But when I get some extra cash, you bet your bippy I'll buy another unit. I dont know if I'll be replacing all my equipment right away, because I'm not sure LED is appropriate for everything, but for grows like this, it works wonders..

I really dont know where to get one in Europe though, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what LED's they are using in those units which I assume it essentially comes down to, and the lens.. I hope you find one though.

nice result frozenguy!

Thanks! I'm happy about it. Very excited to see what else I can do with this unit.

Looking forward to the reviews on the smoke! And btw, I'm officially considering LST for my next grow hah, keep it dank!
Yeah LST is awesome. Really brought out the density in these nugs. Smoke report will be up by Monday. I can tell they are almost ready :jump:

Can't wait to hear the results I really hope the led smokes good I'm leaning towards getting one. I might use led in the summer and hid in the winter.

^ The suspense is killing me! At the very least 126w of led would be very good, energy efficient supplemental lighting to any system.

Great grow, thanks for keeping it updated! :respect:

A few questions... What was the distance between the LEDs and the canopy? And what was the distance from the canopy to the top of the soil? Thanks!

I'm looking forward to the smoke report!
