texas is insulated because of three things:

1. big oil.
2. illegal immigration and cheap labor
3. illegal drug trade->money laundering->free flowing credit markets.

The Unions cried because they couldn't organize the guest workers here legally at the behest of the US Government so they lobbied Congress to eliminate the program so when the workers came back in illegally, they could organize them and collect dues from them. See you miss the point. "Asking" a union to organize your workers just to try to bring money and legitimacy to your cause was the point. And his cause (the dispensary in Oakland) is to be first in the door, then to close it behind him so as not to allow anyone else inside.
