12/12 From Seed: A Different Way To Grow

hey all...quick '?'... at my buddies house where i am growing, he has really bad water so i have been bringing bottled water up for my girls. is bottled water Ph neutral and everything? cause i dont even have my Ph test kit any more.

Most bottled water is ~7 PH, since that's the proper level for humans. Since most nutes have a PH buffer in them, it is probably bringing it down to an acceptable level.

However, it may not be. If your PH is just a little bit off, the effects can be subtle, and unnoticeable until after the damage is done. Just a slight variation of PH can lock out Calcium and Magnesium, which inhibits growth both in the root zone and the exposed plant. Problem is, if the PH is just a little out of whack, you don't see indicators until after your plant has already been experiencing defs for a week or more!

A digital PH tester can be had for about $20 including shipping from E-Bay. You don't have to invest $70+ dollars in a meter, especially if you're using treated water. But you do NEED something to tell you the PH.

Growing without any PH monitoring is a recipe for disaster. 90% of the problems you see in the Infirmary can be traced back to bad PH.

Of all the things you can let slide in our hobby, PH is not one of them.

Get a meter! If you can't do anything else, use the PH drops liquid testers, but do SOMETHING!

I usually run 1 sativa dom plant, veg it for 3-4 weeks, scrog or lst, then flower.
But I was thinking, why burn more electricity than necessary? Why not keep a mom cab, and keep a second cab thats continually on 12/12.
Take clones, root them, and throw them in the 12/12 cab.
Run 4 or 6 plants, 2 strains(i like a little variety lol), with each strain under its own scrog screen.(taking from clone should eliminate the possibility of having different phenos under 1 screen)
I'm thinking with 2 or 3 plants and a sativa stretch, they should fill out the screen like 1 plant would. That will at least cut 2-3 weeks off the total grow time and save some money with the electric bill.
What do yall think??

The main "cola" on my 12/12 girl. The far right part of the above picture.

Sounds like your typical perpetual grow, and a lot of people do it.

Excellent.lol.
I have 1 western winds that I was going to veg for a bit for 1 scrog. Changed my mind now! lol. I am going to flip to 12/12, start 2 grapefruits, and let the WW have her own screen. Time to fire up the HPS.lol

ive fliped through a bunch of pages in this thread. but im curious on soil set ups for this method. what would/should be changed since you want it to go into flowering quicker? i was going to use miracle grows organic potting soil(ya ya i know), perilite and add my own compost which the worms have been doing an awesome job at tearing up. i was thinking of adding bone and blood meal but should i just go with the bone meal? any help would be appreciated.

For me, that is way too complicated and will end up with harsh weed.
The MG is bad enough, but bunch of other amendments only increases the odds of screwing something up.
You are dealing with a fast cycle thing here, and even the size of the container is not as important. IMO it is better to just put them in a simple medium mix or plain coco and feed them a simple one part bloom fert. Makes it easy to flush out for nice tasting weed.

The 12/12 Seed Ladies Chorus

The 12/12 Seed Ladies Chorus

This is an experiment for all to determine how 4 strains grow from seed placed in flower after establishing firm tap roots with no additional vegging time. All are Fem seeds, rooted in the best seed starting combination I have seen from Seeds.com. They are plugs similar to Roto roots but longer and more slender, forcing tap roots to shoot to the bottom. All seeds I've started came up with no problems.

The Ladies:

Sopranos: Super Lemon Haze
Falsettos: Sweet Purple
Allegras: Dutch Delight
One Tenor: AK 48

The are in 1 gallon square pots with promix, perlite and popcorn grow rocks on the bottom for airy roots.

I have a cool tube with 600 watts, making 85,000 lumens over a 3 x 5 area that holds two 2 x 4 tubs that I place the pots in.

In the photos you will see an empty tub that will house the same four strains, but two each in 2 gallon perfect pots.

Now we all can see how 12/12 behaves next to a typically veged plant of 32 days in blue light, flipped to 12/12 along side the 12/12 Ladies Chorus.

12/12 from seed, cut at Day 72 from initial sprout

12/12 from seed, cut at Day 72 from initial sprout

This is my first grow using a stealth cabinet with 126w worth of warm white CFLs. I had a average temperature of 90 degrees during the "day" and 70 degrees at "night" I used nutrients almost every feeding, I'm sure this lead to some nutrient burn but that's my only major noobie mistake.

Here's a picture with a bic of one of the two plants harvested. I'm happy with my first grow and I hope you are too. Thanks for the 12/12 idea!
