from what i understand LC's mix can be used throughout the entire grow using only water, but im wondering what i can add that will significantly increase yield and potency?

BTW the mix im using is the peat base with Bone, Blood, and Kelp meal nutrients.

-thanks

What you add would totally depend on what you have access to and what you can afford but i would at the very least have something on hand that is in solution you can add to a watering if something comes up.

yield and potency comes most from genetics. although you can help yield some.

Folair feed the kelp and also folair feed alfalfa.

when making LC's mix with feeding recipe #1, as you continue to stir and moisten should I keep doing it with Liquid Karma for the two to four week cook or switch to just water? Also, is it better in a sealed container or do you want more circulation? And one more: if starting from clones, when would be ideal to switch to the nute mix? thanks.

They're all the same product from the same factory in Nova Scotia, i.e. Acadian Seaplants, Ltd. like Neptune's Harvest, Espoma, Dr. Earth, E. B. Stone, blah, blah, blah, blah as well as the products marketed to farm and feed stores. If you have horses of quality anywhere in your area you can find kelp meal.

Kelp meal has been used for 200 years at least for livestock, horses, swine and especially poultry and chickens in particular. Kelp meal increases the Omega-6 oils in eggs and are often marked as such on the carton as 'Omega Oil Enriched' etc. Health food stores also carry kelp products for humans and the benefits are well documented.

You'll be pleased with the health of your plants when you use kelp/seaweed products.

CC

And while you are at the local feed store pick up some alfalfa, soybean meal and cottonseed meal. But most important....the alfalfa.

V

Thanks again for your input guys! I'll be heading to the feed store after work and I will pick up the extra's you've suggested Von.

Well I'm officially underway, i just put 6 sour 60 seeds in LC mix #2 and will be using the Neptune's harvest nute schedule. So far none have broke ground but its only been about 20 hours. It feels good to be back at it after a small break!

I bought one of those 50# bags of alfalfa pellets a few months back at large organic nursery and supply house in San Luis Obispo. I had a of bag rabbit alfalfa feed pellets in my hand and the lady asked me what I was using it for and she put the bag back and sent over to the horse pellets. A bit cheaper and she said, and also stated that the rabbit food had some other additives (can't remember what is was). Just saying, she said to stick with the horse feed.

One of my Ag News sites says this is coming to "The People's Republic Of Oregon";

May 11, United Press International – (National) Oregon grasshopper
plague expected again. Oregon scientists and farmers are predicting a
devastating plague of grasshoppers this summer, perhaps worse than
western U.S. states experienced last year when Oregon was stormed by 2-
inch-long, clear-winged grasshoppers. The grasshoppers ate plants over
tens of thousands of acres of in Harney County in 2009 and this summer
the ravaged area could double to 140,000 acres in the county.

So what is the organic solution to this?

Is this a good mix?

Is this a good mix?

I was wondering if this is a good mix for outdoors and because I dont have 2-4 weeks to let it sit, they need transplanted now from 1 gal. about 14-16 inches tall clones, will the mix still work and if not what will happen? Than kyou for and input, this is my first time mixing my own soil.

About 8-9 cu. ft. COMPOST from Amerigcan Organics
4- 2.2 cu.ft. bags of sphagnum peat moss..OMRI listed-

1- 3.8 cu. ft. perlite- "Chunky"
2- bags of wormcastings "Garden & Bloom" brand7.5 lbs - Epsoma "Garde LIME"
3 lbs- Miracle Grow Organic Blood Meal

6 lbs- Miracle Grow Organic Bone Meal
3 lbs Kelp Meal- Nursery

3 lbs Greensand- Nursery
2 lbs Soft Rock Phosphate- Nursery
4 lbs Kellogs Organic Starter fertilzer- Has all the mycorrhizae and bennefical bacteriums-

A question for you V or CC. This grow I made my alfalfa tea via the poor boy method. My brewer was busy making EWC tea so I made it just by throwing a cup of alfalfa in about 4 gal of water and added a few teaspoons of epsom salt (I read of this method in a tomato forum) and let it stew for 5 or 6 days, till it stunk real good. Then applied to both foliar and soil.

I noticed in your Alfalfa thread (or maybe here), you bubbled yours. Any differences, or pluses or minuses to the poor boy method?

I continue using LK when keeping it moist. There should be some air exchange. I use a rubbermaid tub with latching handles. One of the handles I put in the close position, but put the lid on top instead of locking it. This allows a little bit of air in.

I use a bubble cloner, and put the clones in the full nute mix as soon as the main stem gets some "hairs". Seems to work well, but they could probably stand to wait a day or two longer.

The horse pellets are normally PURE. Most of the small animal pellets contain salt. Horses use a salt block and do not need it added to the feed.

No the poor boy method works fine. It is the same idea as the EWC slurry but takes a little longer. Steeping it in water for a few days works just as good.

hey Vonforne thx again for all your help in the past,

unfortunatly im restarting because my seedlings got to big developed deficiences in crappy soil waiting for my lcs mix to cook.
they are growing very poorly

so i prepared some plain lcs peat/perl/ewc and lime (no nutes)to start some new seedlings in beer cups, is 2 weeks long enough to wait to put in popped seedlings?

and while there in the beer cups before i transplant into my bonebloodkelp mix, will ewc/mollasses teas supply enough to the seedlings to devolep a root system?

or what can i do if i start to see yellowing again? followed by leaves going crisp or getting brown dots all over~.~ they should only be in these cups 2-3 weeks just until they develop a root system.

(btw my dolomitic lime is 24% calc/12% mag does that sound right?)

edit: Thank YOU!

ya, 2 weeks is the minimum.

of course, just watch for any yellowing that will indicate when to transplant.

or what can i do if i start to see yellowing again? followed by leaves going crisp or getting brown dots all over~.~ they should only be in these cups 2-3 weeks just until they develop a root system.

when this happens make a Compost tea. Or you could give a mild dose of Fish emulsions.

(btw my dolomitic lime is 24% calc/12% mag does that sound right?)

perfect. 2 to 1 ratio. What the numbers are does not matter it is the ratio @ 2 to 1 you want.

No problem for the help.

RE K-Mag

So here was how I got the version of K-Mag that I bought (the 'Standard') to dissolve almost completely was to buy a used coffee grinder (a Braun actually to honor your countrymen over there!) at a yard sale for $1.00

1 tbsp. into the coffee grinder and whirl for about 30 seconds - instant powder. Add to water and let it sit for about 24 hours. Use as intended.

A friend had some major problems in his garden and he brought me a leaf to look at. I know nothing about the different problems associated with macro/micro nutrients levels but I did find a chart that had photos of cannabis leaves and it appeared to be some kind of potassium issue.

I had him make up the K-Mag tea and apply. Within 36 hours there was a profound difference in the color and health of the leaves. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes.

How often were you applying K-Mag when you were using it? I added 1/4 cup to 5 gallons of potting soil. That's along with 5 minerals (Azomite, soft rock phosphate, Canadian glacial rock dust, New Jersey Greensand and limestone). Liming agents are applied at the same amount, i.e. 1/4 cup to 5 gallons and it's equal parts dolomite, gypsum and oyster shell powder.

So with that in mind and since I did add a small amount to the soil itself, I was thinking about using the K-Mag tea about every 2 weeks or so. I have kelp meal in the soil mix so potassium per se isn't too much of an issue I wouldn't think.

Thanks for your help as usual.

I know you are asking V, but i thought I'd just tell you how i used my soluble sulfate of potash. I applied 1 tsp/gallon of water (mix with kelp or tea or alfalfa or whatever was going on at the time) once a week during the last 4 weeks of flower (skipped the last week) and am happy with the results. So I too, am interested as to how V applied his k-Mag.

I did not have any k-mag in my soil mix during this grow. I have since added 1.25 cups of k-mag per 1.25cf in my soils that are sweeting for my next grow. I think I'd still use the extra soluble k-mag during flower in this soil though when the time comes.

I am awaiting the gurus thoughts.
