going through this combined with fibromyalgia, think indicas and kush's especially are great for pain
but for depression i would lean towards uplifting sativas, original haze, kalimist, look into ace's haze collection
in my opinion again Sativas are what you are looking for, kinda go a handle on the dif between muscle and emotional pain.

I have PTSD and I got off seroquel with herb. I think certain strains of cannabis are fantastic anti depressants and are far more affective and safer than anything a doctor will prescribe for you. Try some A11 and go for a long walk in the woods away from all the noise and you'll be on the right path. Pharmaceuticals have their place if you need to break a nasty cycle but you should not stay on them. Cannabis is far superior. Over the years I have been on over 90 different meds and cannabis is the clear winner, allows me to take care of me instead of pills that can only be a band aide at best.

Can you please tell me what strains you used in your time getting off of Seroquel? My mom has been on that poison for years and I really want to find her perfect strain to get her off of it, as well as for myself to remain even keeled..

To the posters who said that Cannabis is not a good anti-depressant, I guess that is true. If the measure of an "anti-depressant" is the effect of SSRI's and other pharmaceutical happy pills, then I would rather my depression go untreated. Why I prefer Cannabis to synthetic treatment options for my head is that Cannabis engages truth in my mind, where those pills strap a smile on your existential face and make you roll all those woes into a ball and swallow it, along with your pride. I used to take a lot of acid and MDMA, for better or worse I am hypersensitive to what is going on in my head and I know for sure that the effect those pills gave me was the single most evil drug experience I have encountered. Chemical castration for the working class.. FUCK pharmaceuticals. Farms not pharms all the way.

Carry on :tiphat:

I also thought that sounds very nice (Mex x Blueberry) seems like it would be good for depression, I know blueberry seems to have a high that just goes away and leaves you feeling fine. There is no down to it for the most part, I bet the Mexican picks it up a bit.

Nirvana / Sativa Seedbank's Sativa Mexicana (new name - Eldorado) and it's F1 to Jock Horror - Nirvana Special (new name - Royal Flush). Very happy and motivating weed. The best in this respect I've tried so far.

like the OP, i'm on a long term search for some help with depression issues
in other threads like this one, you do see quite a few posts on how MJ is more of a symptomatic treatment, which may well be the case
but i've doing some reading on the SSRI's and the other big pharma 'solutions'
they may have more long term effects, but the understanding of how they work seems minimal at best
the big difference between them and MJ seems to be duration of effect
and with the duration of effect seems to come the duration of negative effects
the more i've read about the mainstream medical solutions, the more scared of them i've become

We advise that you smoke less and take more walks in the open if depressed. Smoking weed doesn't always help!

Otherwise consider a milder African sativa,, Kenyan or Malawi,, or Jamaican erb (same roots).

Hope this helps

Gooey has been my bread and butter but she is clone only. I also use Romulan. The trick with getting off something like seroquel is to do it very, very slowly. I got the 25 mg ones since it is the lowest dose and every 2 or 3 weeks I would take one less until I walked myself off. I think going off something as powerful as seroqule would require a good sedating strain like my Romulan/Hashplant to help keep the mind moving low in those super stressful times and long quite walks in the woods really helped too. Romulan at night something like Cherry Malawi during the day for the walk. Sour Diesel and crosses of it seem to get a lot of mention, Apollo 11, Blue Heaven and I've heard Mandala strains mentioned numerous times. Now I am at the point where once in a while I'll take a xanax but the next day I'm a grump. Compare to how I was even a few years ago I'm pretty much free from pills now thanks to Cannabis!
I wish your Mom all the luck in the world getting off that nasty, nasty stuff!

4 Dragons thanks so much! I'm gonna show that post to my mom so she can see that there really are others using Cannabis as a healthy alternative to that poison. Really appreciate it.

Again lets look at what we are talking about. Depression, bi-polar, and effects of MDMA usage. Cannabis will only give you relief on a temporary basis at best and does not treat the actual issue. You are simply getting highto not think about the real pain. If you use it to alter your mood or transition off of a prescrobed medication given by a doctor, it will not give you any benfits past the high. Also lets be careful about reccomending strains and suggesting that they are a cure for this or that. They are not. And to accept the word of a poster as some sort of guide to treatment is simply dangerous. You can badmouth the medical communty and doctors if you want to but to compare a doctors diagnosis and recomendations to that of someone suggestin you use Romulan over Sour D is plain crazy. Most of the meds you are talkin about affect the levels of Serotonin in the brain or how the serotonin is used or accepted by the brain. Herb only does one of these which is to block the amount of it your bain can process. The different varieties may have different affects on the persons mood but they all react in the brains system the same way. Please read up on your specific condition and try to do whats best for you. There are alot of pills out there and they each do specific things. All wont work and many will have bad side effects. Another issue here is the complete lack of any recomendations for actual tx instead of self-medicating. Tradining one drug for another is still an addiction the patient must get over to be considered healthy. Most forms of mental llness can be treated effeciently and effectively with professional help from a competent provider. There are also many homeopathic remedies that could replace the use of some pills so reading up on natural herbs other than pot could be a help as well.

OGee and 4 Dragons - Seroquel is one of the strongest meds used to treat depression. It is used to treat only the most severe forms of the disease only. I bring this up because the conversation about weening yourself off and actually recommending it to a mother. This is a bad idea and I would emplore both of you to really seek medical help before going thru with such a plan on both sides. Do you really want to leave your health and that of your moms up to a few recomendations on a pot site? Good luck to you both either way but I hope you do think about this.

no argument with your overall post, professional medical treatment is important
but from what i've seen on the clinical results, the main stream meds aren't so great either
there was a recent study that showed that the SSRI's are better than placebo
but the degree they were was not impressive at all, especially with respect to some of the side effects
and i personally have encountered the occasional MJ strain that seems to go beyond the feel good high
there are those rare strains that seem to make you feel better, and their high seems almost irrelevant to that effect, at least for me
unfortunately, these were bagweeds from years ago
but i have seen some posts on this topic that others have had a similar experiences

Anyone doubting the real actual anti-despressant quality of fine cannabis please smoke a Sweet Pink Grapefruit dominant strain like Sweet Tooth and then let us know your scientific findings about how it makes you feel after about a week or two of smoking it once or twice per day (late afternoon to evening works best before going to bed). The herb is natural, from the earth just like we are. The synthetic chemicals that alter natural brain chemistry are made in a labratory and are not good for you or your long term health mentally or physically. God gave us all the solutions we need right from nature, not the lab. :canabis:

I just saw some newly listed "Iced Grapefruit" by Female Seeds (FMS) 5 packs on the bay and they are available right now with a really cheap BIN of under $27 for 5 all female beans. They are GF (spg or ?)x Ice and might be very worth checking out before they are all gone! Ice is a very strong frosty Indica with good pain relief qualities which would pair nicely with the Grapefruit and it's known anti-depressant & stress relief qualities. :woohoo:

have you tried butter? i give my girlfriend all the clippings (not fan leaves) and she uses about 30 grams with 4 sticks of organic unsalted butter- puts them in the crock pot on high until the butter melts then puts it on low for 8 hrs stirring 1 or 2 times an hr, then pours into a coffee french press, then into a pyrex measuring cup, it makes just enough for most batches of cookies. i eat 1 around 7 everynite , sleep killer and still feel it till about noon, then i might burn. this helped cut way down on smoking and the burnout that comes with. may not have what you have but i get super negative and grouchy - then run endless scenarios in my head- then get pissed cuz i'm wasting life on stupid shit.. oh anyway, the cookies help with my outlook...

the reuptake system is usaly the main problem with depreshion,,,once the receptors are inactive or the reuptake system is fookd all you can do is medicate to stop any buildup,,,you will need a predictaable medicine!!

cannabis is a constituant medicine !!!,,,,,some of the constituants of cannabis can stop brain damage!! ,,some of the other constituants are anti-spazmodics,,,some are anti inflamitory!!,,,,,IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE SMAPLE!!,,,,,,organic cannabis samples tend to change in chemical composition!!,,,,simple things sutch as Terpenoid Ratios can modify the effect!,,,,,,given that samples change so mutch in there chemical ratios its very difficult to pedict outcomes!!

to make the outcomes predictable we need to make samples ritch in single componants!!,,,,

ps,,,,some peeps i know only smoke hash,,,they say its not as mind warping,,,,,it seems to me that extracts are mutch better for people who want to medicate as you discribed
