goin to the dentist...i'm scared

i'm hopin' u guys can put me at ease, but i doubt thats how it will go down.

...anyway i havent been in like 15 years. i take care of my teeth, and they are generally good, but i know i have a cpl cavities. (i brush about 5 times a day...esp. after i eat)..i dont floss tho.

aside from the cpl cavaties, 1 of my molars on my lower jaw and 1 on my upper jaw ...(farthest ones back opposite sides) have fallen out over the course of a cpl years (some painful days w/ that, but not anymore...also thinking they might not be totally out tho they feel like it).

and i have a bad cavity on the back side of one of my upper front teeth now...thats why im goin in......well that and to get it all fixed.

i have insurance that should cover most of it, so im not too worried about the cost.

just worried about the experience.

anyone have any advice for gettin thru this?

i did pick a dentist that is 0.4 miles from home and that offers 'nitrous oxide'
that should make things better.

when i was young and had a cavity it seemed like it took hours for them to fix.

like a year ago i had one, it literally seemed like 5 minutes.

for me it was the sound of the drill and the grinding of my teeth rattling through my head that was the bad part, i pod solves all that.


and when i mean small bowl I mean like 2 hits from a pipe. not enough to get you real stoned, just enough to take the edge off.

what do they do about a cavity on your front tooth that seems pretty bad from the back?

....tha adjacent tooth has started to discolor at the top....im thinking from a time when i kraked my teeth crashing on my bike at a skatepark a few yrs ago (gave me about 6 loose teeth at the time)

You are probably going to get a root canal on the tooth that is changing color. When they get done killing the tooth and the nerve they will put a bleach in it to make it white again.

Could be much worse, you're lucky man.....you'll feel sooo much better when it's all done.

x-rays, cleaning....potentially antibiotics first, so you may not be getting anything heavy duty done on your first trip, with the exception of that cavity in front.

Definitely a go on the nitrous, and no matter how you feel, tell them YOU CAN'T FEEL IT and have them turn it up.....I'm a big guy and I had to sign a paper at my dentist to have them turn it up more than normal.

For reference....I'm scared shitless of the dentist as well....but I love my teeth. If I could get away with going toothless and with rotten breath, trust me I would.

I think the only time I get flossed is when the hygienist does it every 6 months for my cleanings.....

My fingers are too big and I can't stand those little "harp" looking things....

It's more important actually, the gums hold the teeth. Sure cavities will ruin the teeth but trench mouth will rot your gums & you won't be able to use pins for teeth possibly needing plates etc as an elder.

This gear isn't as obtrusive as it once was in the old days -15 years & is second to none in NA. I bet they could hook up a blackberry to this set. Our advice will not only save you $$$ but natural teeth & there's nothing better ask Henry Hill, he had them all pulled that MF regrets that I swear on it.
