Maybe just rename it 'Old Smegmer' rofl

Actually, I always think Cheese smells like really nasty, fetid, sweaty unwashed feet and dry dusty something, fucking horrid, still amazes me anyone likes that taste, to me it's like licking the sweat from the mankiest feet you can imagine, just foul.

Hehehehehe Crusty Semen, why do I get the feeling if Cheese had originally been given that name then it wouldn't be all the rage these days. Oh, and the world would be a better place without the stinky shit.

I don't know about crusty, but one of my three phenos of Seedsman Skunk #1 a few years back smelled exactly like fresh semen when growing - thankfully it reverted to a sort of sugary blandness on drying, and was quite potent, despite that. But it did acquire the name 'Spunk #1' for the few short weeks it was around, and luckily the clones of that one all died, I'm relieved to say.

One of the others, a Mexican-dominant plant, smelled of floor-cleaner mixed with fresh vomit, if that's any improvement, though the high of that one was incredible...like acid...;)

How come you didn't keep the Mexican pheno? Sounds rather interesting.

Hang on, did i just call a skunk interesting? Damn, I must be slipping!

Seedsman Skunk #1 is dead cheap and still the same seeds they bought in bulk from Sam. I was planning to do a large seed grow of seedsman's old stuff from Sam over in Holland, I was gonna do 100 Haze, 100 Skunk, 100 Haze x Skunk, 50 Haze x Indian, 50 Skunk x Indian, 50 Skunk x Hawaiian and 50 Skunk x Durban. Imagine the keepers I might have got out of that lot!

Never happened, blame the politie!

The best phenos of Sam's version of Skunk were always the 12-13 week ones, the Alegria cut is supposed to be a 12 week Colombian pheno. I get really dismayed and a little annoyed when I see all these Cheese breeding threads and Cheese hybrids and people growing The Pure or BB's Cheese because I know that they would be far better off buying packs of Seedsman's Skunk #1 and dabbling in the original skunk genepool.

I've never been convinced that Cheese was a Skunk #1, and it just occurred to me that the seeds grown out in 1988 were from Sensi. Well, that means they could well have been different to the Skunk #1 from Sam. Sensi purchased seedstock from Sam in 1985, they produced their own seeds so what was being sold as Sensi Skunk in 1988 was probably 3 gens on from what Sam sold em, assuming 1 generation per year as they were growing and breeding under glass, growing tens of thousands of seed plants. I have no idea what selections took place, but I expect the longest flowering phenos didn't finish too well in Holland, even under glass unless they were force flowering using tarpaulins. They may well have selected the earlier phenos that finished best in their conditions, that would have removed the best most sativa leaning phenos and that was to the detriment of the strain imho.

I mean, come on, what sounds more interesting, a Mexican pheno that was like herbal acid or Cheese that makes you lick windows all day?

I'm just about to receive some Skunk beans from the 1978 Mendocino Joe Skunk that ohsogreen has preserved ever since he got them from Joe himself in a late night parking lot rendezvous in the Bay Area in 78. I'm reliably informed that it's the original Sacred Seeds Skunk (Mendo Joe being one of the small circle of guys who bred Skunk) the same one that Sam started working with and Sam selected for the sweet sativa side, hence the Skunk #1 came about. The 78 Skunk has been preserved outdoors in Cali through open pollination using decent numbers and ohso tells me it produces 50% indica phenos (that stink BAAAAAAD!), 25% Acapulco Gold phenos and 25% Colombian Gold phenos. Well, I am not at all interesting in the indica phenos, I'll pass them on to someone as they will be of interest to the Cheese freaks. I want the Acapulco and Lumbo phenos, through careful selection, I should be able to find some pretty special sativas I hope, and having both Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold in pure seed form, I see the opportunity for some very interesting breeding. The AG and CG in pure form are awesome, but neither gives it's best indoors, so an infusion of Skunk but Skunk that mostly shares the same genes would probably be the best possible route to making derivatives of the Acapulco and Lumbo that do work really well indoors.

Anyways, form an orderly queue all you Cheese freaks, I will start taking requests for the indica phenos of the 78 Skunk as soon as the seeds arrive and are sprouted, I'm way too paranoid to flower the due to the immense smell, and as Cheese is an indica dominant 88 Skunk, I am sure you wanna sample an indica dominant 78 Skunk!

At the time, I was juggling way too many strains, and struggling to keep clones going well. I did make a few seeds with Flo, and I think I have six left, so that's another one for the resurrection program. But it did take 13 weeks to finish...;)

Ah, I think that was later version using the 9-week Skunk pheno, but it was one of the best I've had so far - smelled/tasted vaguely of banoffee, believe it or not! That's the one in my harvest photos thread.

For some reason, my old gallery isn't loading images, and I'm getting security warnings, so maybe the DB is screwed - but I think there might be one view of the monster skunk in one of the old growroom shots. I had to delete tons, as my account was full, and I wasn't backing up onto CD in those days, so sadly it's probably gone for good.

I have seen other skunks on here like it though - big, toilet-brush type buds, very fluffy, with calyx clusters growing out at all angles, like coral...

I remember seeing the Mexican dom skunk pics. I do have some Skunk x Flo beans Em shared with me ages ago, no idea which pheno of skunk made em though.

The story rick is that Sacred Seeds was a collective based in the Bay Area of Cali and the group that bred Skunk was said to be 6 guys, one of which was Mendo Joe, a Vietnam vet biker. Joe later moved north to Vancouver where he worked on his own peppery offshoot of the skunk project and became known as Romulan Joe. Sam is said to have been a junior member of Sacred Seeds at the time and not one of the 6 core Skunk creators. Sacred Seeds were bust but Sam was lucky and got away to breed another day, some of the others were not so lucky, Joe fled north, others just disappeared back into 'regular' society, others went to prison for long terms.

good info..,,,it feels like your shedding new light on this

so thats the Romulan:),,,,,,ive never heard the back story on the Romulan beffore,,,,loads of peeps in BC love it, i read that some peeps even get hooked on it for a while like our Cheeseheads in the uk....have you ever tried the Romulan?

an yeh indi,,i think your right about sensi making bad selections on skunk1,,,,it continued till now an thats why sensi`s skunk is crapy compared to a clone from previous generations
