Pearlemae made a good point.....when you quit, the smell of smoking on someone is sooooo strong and horrible. I can't believe I ever smelled like that. If I even walk through a smoky room now, my hair smells like an ash tray for an hour.

The weid thing is....when someone sparks a marlboro light...I sometimes like it. Then again sometimes it smells bad. Newports.....they smell like shit no matter what. I did smoke those for about 3 years when I was in college.

EDIT: Supermanlives.....drinking is when you're soooo more likely to restart. That's what I love about the Joye510 nic. vapor.....to keep it around for drinking nights when you know you're mind is weakened by alcohol. I can think of at least 3 occasions where I may have started smoking again.

Let me give you the list Snype as a person who is exactly on the same track as you. I smoked:

Newport 100's
Salem's
Kool Cigarettes
Camel Crush (Menthol and Lights in a mix)
Nat Sherman MCD's
Benson and Hedges light Menthols
and now i'm hooked on Marlboro light Menthol 100's

I smoke two packs a day. My lungs hurt in the morning for about an hour but it goes away during the daytime. I've noticed that of all the cigarettes I mentioned above that only the Marlboro's are the ones that have something new in them that are not right. They give me headaches, they hit me harder than all the rest of the others, but they are the most addicting! Some other ingredient is in those damn Marlboro's than the other brands.

It definitely is the hardest thing in the world to quit especially when it's part of your daily routine. You wake up in the morning, go make some coffee and have a cigarette while checking your Email. You take a shower, and when your waiting for your hair to dry you have a cigarette. You drive to work you have a cigarette. At work you slam the phones then take a smoke break. You eat lunch, have a cigarette. You take a SHIT, have a cigarette. Drive home, cigarette on the way. See where I'm going with this. It's easy to down 2 packs in one day!

When you quit it's like losing a friend! A best friend! But I know that if we can get past our weaknesses that it will be much better because I remember when I didn't smoke cigarettes. We need help, support, and a reason to quit. A real reason that can make you break the habit.

Wow! You guys are so inspiring! I'm smoking my last cigarette as we speak. I know it's going to be tough but I think I can do it. Thinking that other people care about my personal health is just such a crazy thought to comprehend. I really appreciate the support of all of you and it should help make it at least a little easier. I believe that I smoke for a reason and need to find something else to take the place of cigs to help my stress. I'm naturally a very stressed out person in general and chain smoking for some reason helps me get rid of some of my stress. I'm getting a little older now and so is my self control for the most part so this should help me too. Thank you to everyone! :)

I wasnt going to chime in here but I guess I will... I'm not a smoker, although I recently bought my first pack of butts a week or two ago. Hanging out with lots of ppl that smoke, and socially smoking at bars and while drinking is what kills me, after I bought that pack I was mostly grossed out by them after but I normally just cant say no to an offered butt. So although I'm not a veteran smoker I really don't want to be one and have been trying hard to not smoke at all, although I did today unfortunately...

Anyway, the main thing I wanted to say was that my friends, one of which is a huge chain smoker stopped smoking butts inside their apt when they moved, I can only assume you smoke where you live? But it helped alot on how much he was smoking everyday, and your house and everything in it doesnt smell gross ;)

gluck to all, we all know it kills ya!

So it's been a little over 13 hours now and I haven't smoked a cigarette! Usually I would have smoked a pack by now but I've been in a good mood since last night and have no stress whatsoever. I have a friend who buys ginseng root but the real old expensive kind and chews on them all day. I tried some at his house and it was actually pretty good. I was thinking about substituting it for Cigs when I get stressed.

YAY! ... for this thread! I am by no means a pill user unless absolutely necessary. I think that Cigarette addiction is awful. I hit my 1st cig at 4 because I wouldn't stop asking my mom for a hit. She had me hit it like snoop as to sway me from the habit when I got older. The feeling was awful. Sickness, nasty taste ect. I never wanted to smoke em after that. Then I was 7 & hanging with the older cousins whom stole their parents cigarettes. Then I started swiping a few here & there. Slowly but surely I went from swiping a few to swiping a lot then eventually stealing whole packs & then buying them. Been hooked ever since. Let's see .... 21 yrs on these f*cking things. I've had my lot. After failed attempts as quitting I decided to pill it. Chantix. I can't stand the Pharma, however I would rather put up with a month of med's than to continue to kill myself slowly for the rest of my life. The Chantix is lesser of 2 evils, but damn it works good. No cravings at all. Side effects like any meds. Tried once last year & quit for 3 months. Got stomach aches had crazy f*cking dreams, but quit with no problems none the less. Just had to say thank you to all your quitters out there. You've beat me to it, but I'm right behind ya!

KEEP STRONG QUITTERS!

I quit 8 years ago and that was the third try the thing that helps me stay away is knowing that at any moment I could become a smoker again. Cold turkey is the best way just a full out stop and after three days you are out of the worst part.

All the advice of switching form one type of nicotine to another whether it is a e cig patch or gum is just like saying I quit whiskey not I only drink vodka or gin. It is the same thing to your body.

I tried cutting down twice and the only thing that that is useful for is saving money or it should be called just lighting less money on fire.

If you are a cheap bastard just keep looking at the money side of it of per day cost and how much it will cost later in life due to health bills or needed medication for cancer.

You do not need tobacco and even watch out for blunts or tobacco wraps that got me going for the nicotine bug again after 6 months away one time. Kick that shit out of your life as fast as possible the sooner you do the sooner it fades away. I have a dream once a year or so of being in a car smoking but it used to be weekly for a year or two.

But always remember one cigarette or any nicotine can and most likely will turn you right back. I always remember that and hope I never smoke that garbage again.

I can still remember those days when I first started. In those days I was so young that every store would sell me packs because they could never have believed they were for me. Hiding in bushes in the neighborhood and sneaking a cigarette. It was so hard to inhale at first but then I got used to it. I remember that day too. It was halloween. I buried a metal box near my grade school and put in a pack of Marlboro Lights. I was pretty proud of myself for that which is pretty pathetic. It's kind of weird but I used to smoke in those bushes by myself a lot. Sometimes my little brother would come with me and smoke too but he seems to not smoke as much now.

I completely understand where you're coming from. You look back now and think 'wtf was I doing...that shit just sounds ridiculous retelling it'

I applaud your desire to quit. It's definitely not something easy to do. Even though it sounds hypocritical, I plan on quitting once I graduate, or shortly after. Right now isn't really the best time.

Stay strong. Don't get weak. Whenever I'm in a bind, in a tough spot, I always try and think of how much worse things could be - and how much worse things actually are in other parts of the world - and how easy what I have to do is, relative to that.

Even though it's tough, there are things worse than withdrawing from nicotine. Feel me?

Anyways, stay strong, good luck, and once you kick those cancer sticks - kick 'em for good.

After my uncle had throat cancer and a big hole in his throat first thing he wanted when he got home from hospital after surgery was a cig ...truly a nasty habit another friend of mine R.I.P scott williams the 3rd for 15 years he was gonna quit told me that at least once a week tried everything to quit until the day he passed away new years 2008 autopsy said his lungs was so black looked like charcoal couldnt tell you the best way to quit some say cold turkey only to go back to smoking in short and sometimes years later but either way skype will power and finding other things to do besides smoking will help your problem I truly wish you the best bro and know this your life depends on it in the end.

I agree with Arrg. Putting nicotine in your system prolongs the addiction. The only thing you miss is the handling of the cigarette. There's always nicotine in your system so you're always thinking about holding a smoke. Quitting is a lot harder.

Cold turkey is the easiest way. Withdrawal symptoms generally last less than a week.

Plus, guess what, the tobacco companies are buying out the smoking cessation companies so they can make money off both ends, smokers and quitters. Stop giving them your money.

I'm not trying to put down people who use the smoking cessation aids but your brain is the most powerful tool in your arsenal. You don't need anything else but will power.

That's what I like about Chantix, it blocks the receptors in the brain that get pleasure from nicotine. You dont have to switch habits. No chew, or patches or gum.
