Right on bro. I've never seen the cough in person but I've seen it grown on line once and the people that did it pulled the largest nugs I've ever seen on line! I feel you bro! Come on weather! I need you to cooperate so I can get shit done! I don't care how much it rains once my plants are out side in their heated green house...i just need enough of a break to make that thing a reality! I decided to buy a tube bender and bend top rail in to 16' hoops to make a 16x32 hoop house..found a great source for 12 mil woven green house poly too so I'm going to come in way under cost for my green house even if it wasn't what I initially planned to do..had to fire the carpenter that was helping construct it...

FWIW I've got a friend down in your area running that GKG Gangsta Purps and he's got bananas popping out of all his top nugs..I'd stay far away from that cross!! Any thing where the Mendo Purp donated hermaphrodite pollen is probably going to be a scary one to run...regular old Mendo Purp is a BEAST out doors though, wish I had a few this season..

We just did another run of the gangster purps with another one coming in next month and not a banana or a seed anywhere.. a beautiful product that nomaad can vouch for... Stress causes bananas in almost any female (heat, nutes, light leaks etc) as well as over ripening..its the survival instinct. I've grown the gangster a few times now indoors and out and never had a herm issue or she'd be gone like a bad habit.

Respect the plant..
Respect the planet..

That's a great way to write off the experience I was sharing!! My point in saying a nug is a nug at the end of the year the majority of what comes off your yard isn't going to stay around so you want to make sure you're going to be working with something that is in high demand and performs well...For example I'm putting out essentially all Bubba, OG, and West Coast DOG...Yes I will throw 1 or 2 other individuals out to mix things up but come fall 2010 things are going to be rough unless you're as I was saying...in demand. Again this is my out look only and I'm just sharing it because I feel like I'm entitled to I guess.

I have had another report of banana's in the gangster purps so what the fuck?? I'm gonna pull the gangster from the list of available clones. I dont mean to ever discount anyone's grow reports or experience and this is the feedback we have to have to know since we cant grow them all. I have grown the gangster with success but.. Thank you Planty for speaking up for your friend and making me pause to reconsider and ask around. If it stresses that easily or is a true hermaphrodite I dont want to keep it in circulation. I havent had any issues with seeds or banana's since I've been growing it and I will continue to do so for the excellent medicine it produces.
I have much respect for everyone's reports and opinions here.

Thanks for posting that up rowdy. My point was the way you initially came back at me made it seem like because you had ran it with out any troubles, that it was trouble free...

When in fact, my buddy is a very good cultivator and he has it showing bananas in JUST the tops...a sign of genetically predisposed intersex..

I'm glad that you're making the right move to discontinue it from wide spread access.

LOL. i appreciate the self-awareness. I have that same mouting-off problem in person, but seem to be better at keeping it under control when I can re-read my spoutings before I press the post button. I do better with the power to self edit. Its funny, cuz I do a lot of serious communication with very close people over Skype because of the fact that I can edit... I don't ruffle as many feathers.

I also like people with opinions, so its cool by me. Seems like some good was done and a strain with herm tendencies will be grwon with more caution and proliferated to capable growers only who run the strain with full knowledge of the danger. Nothing wrong with that.

I have been on the road a lot these days and in the garage running 2x120 site EZcloners.... the weather has been shit, too so I have been slacking on the dome... also have not been able to get somebody to help at a moment that I had free. But I have been organizing and it looks like the frame will go up on sun-mon. The cover will be here by wed-thursday.

I'm taking soil samples in the morning, too. Mail via PVGS.

PFVS's the way to go bro...they'll have you dialed in ASAP. Good luck with that gangster..I find things pretty much don't herm up out door...they're too happy in the sun and fresh air..

Major progress. Dome frame is half up after about a half day's work in the snow, sleet rain and hail. Oh... and there were sunny interludes as well. I'll have the spare hands again tomorrow, but developed a technique with a pair of vice grips that I was constantly rotating in and out of clothing layers. I'll post a pic if any of them came out. The dome cover shipped today... confluent events and sharp focus will see plants in the GH this weekend. Any thoughts on how I should heat this bitch? I have a couple of different propane heaters I could throw in there...

Also, my wife went on the soil mission to Sonoma Compost for samples. I have a gallon ziplock each of their Hi-test and Mallard Plus Composts and one of their Featherlite soil mix. Its nice stuff. I am going to send in 4 samples (I have 4 sample bags. Going to call and see if I can send in samples in other containers)... here is what I am thinking about the samples.

1- Last Year's soil mix, but mixed fresh from new bags of Roots and 707.
2- Last year's soil, direct from the pots I grew in in '09,
3- Same as above, but amended with Sonoma Compost's Mallard Plus Compost at 1:1
4- Sonoma Compost's Featherlite (soil+mallard plus 1:1) with perlite added (is this necesary? do they test for waterholding capacity?)

I feel like these four samples will give me enough data to decide what the fuck I'm doing in my big pots this year. Pray for swift turnaround on the part of PeacefulValley. Guess I have time... but i would really like to get it figured out and maybe run some tests on amendments in my veg room.

I have been totally inspired by Butte's recent tutorial in the Tom Hill Monster Plant Thread and I've decided to do a serious 3 week veg with lights in my black box frames. A major shortcoming of last year was improper veg in the box. when i pulled the plants out of their 65's the rootmass had barely grown beyond its original two and three gallon pre-transplant pots. NOT gonna happen this year.

I'll throw some pics up (even if they are shitty) when I get into the house. First, I'v got to pot up some aero clones or they will take over. I have my cloning and potting thing down... One strain, the Pineapple Cough is extremely prone to transplant shock. I have minimized this by floating the foam insert and =bare root clone in a strong hormex solution for at least 15 minutes before potting. One round went perfectly, no shock at all... but the last couple I did were shocky again. I am going to try more perlite in the soil. Not sure why, but i think these babies might like it.

hey sack. last year I did almost nothing to hinder veg. I was a little late getting em out, since we had to get our fence built before we could even get dirt delivered. i can look at a calendar and tell you when exactly they went out. I had some early flowering from some strains that came almost directly out of a 24/0 veg room.... but last year was a hodgepodge of strains from a number of places. I am dialed in this year with strains that had no such problems last year and others that I have chosen because I don't think they will. Last year I put a couple of early flowerers into my black box and replaced them with fresh plants I had saved as backups. This year I am going to have an entire round of backups veged and ready to roll in case of an early term problem... extreme stress-out or the like.

last year I had one Razzberry in the garden that flowered and reveged a number of times over the course of the season. I would have tossed her but she smelled sublime. In the end, the couple of pounds of smoke that came off her got a wierd bag mold that made em taste and smell like shit. Total write off in the end. here she is on one of the early fowerings.

This year I am going to very gradually adjust the plants to the outdoor timing... I'll put the full season plants out in Mid May... I am going to veg the black box plants for a couple of weeks like in Butte's tutorial before I start pulling tarp.

MaaD thanx for the info.. I was wondering how you coulda hindered they appeared to be fine, but it is better to put the gurls out at the right time.. And it is hard to dial in when you do have a multi flavored menu as you did last year.. What flavors are you rollin with this year if you dont mind me askin? I really cant wait to see it unfold.. bbl peace n puffs..

That pic with the snow looks cool. The weather was gnarly when I came down that way yesterday. Dome is looking great. Should be a fun space to work with.

It was some crazy weather out there yesterday. Every 10-30 minutes there was a complete change. It ranged from snow, to sleet, to small hail, to rain to bright warm sun. Today is going to be nicer.
