Hello. I am growing Grapefruit. Here are my clones, which were cut 4.5 weeks ago from a flowering mother and are just finishing up the reveg process.

Here is mother. The damages are due to an infestation of root aphids, which I am just now getting under control.

Any and all, feel free to post or ask whatever you like in this thread, although I am mostly documenting this for my own record keeping purposes.

Is this grapefruit from the Female seeds team?
Nope, this grapefruit I've got is the original Canadian Sweet Pink Grapefruit clone x C99, back-crossed to the SPG once.

I think anyway, its possible I got some inaccurate secondhand information. Whatever the case, it is a beautiful and forgiving plant.

Pesticidal Maniac

Screw it, I gave everything in the garden 2 doses of 15mL/gal .75% Imidacloprid. Bugs are gone.

oh man good luck. would Diatomacious earth help against the root aphids?

http://www.ghorganics.com/DiatomaceousEarth.html

according to them:
What insects can DE be used for?
Diatomaceous Earth may be used as a barrier to control adult flea beetles, sawfly, coddling moth, twig borer, thrips, mites, cockroach, slugs, snails and many other insects such as:
Aphids, thrips, earwigs, silverfish, and ants. Can be used for bedbugs, cabbage root flies, carrot root flies, fleas, pillbugs, ticks and is helpful in dealing with fungus gnats. Indoor and Outdoor Application: Sprinkle a light layer of DE in areas where pests frequent, including under stoves, cabinets, sinks, garbage cans, window and door frames and sills,
entrance ways, sewer pipes and drains, and in cracks and crevices. Repeat treatment as needed.

theres more... and the link's up there.. just one result from google..

I appreciate the suggestion, fellas, but I dont think this stuff will be effective against my bugs. These aphids have like 5 or 6 life stages and can survive without reproducing in the medium. I think a few other posters tried DE to treat their winged root aphid problem with very limited success. I firmly believe that the only thing that will effectively control the population is real, harmful, chemicals. They really make the spider mites look like Little Miss Muffet.

Thanks for wishing me luck, Ripshot, I am definately going to need it... but with diligence(and real poison) on my side I think I can beat these bitches.

Ok on second thought, the DE isnt much of an investment and it couldnt hurt right?

Thanks dudes, I will be adding DE to the program.

Biological pest management works best..Using predatory mites etc.. IMO Specially if you have organic grow.

Sweet looking GF BTW !! Never had the real deal grape..Only in some phenos from SOL :)

may wanna check out spinosad - can get at local regular nursery's and is bio based.-

I have spent weeks fighting this pest and I've learned that you need to take a multi-pronged approach to their eradication. They live on the roots, on the leaves and stems, and fly around and lay eggs everywhere. I've used predatory nematodes, lady bugs, pyrethrins, azamax, gnatrol, and yes, even spinosad(only to learn that it doesnt work on sucking insects). None of that stuff put a dent in this colony of aphids.

Organic options just weren't cutting it.

Though, the spider mites are easily controlled by a combination of Spinosad, Azamax and the occasional rub down with a dish sponge.

Yea this plant is like a bug magnet, I think they like the smell as much as us! I'm coinvinced that the mother saved my other plants from being eaten alive during this last flower cycle. It was in rough shape by harvest time, but the [ChemoxWhiteRhino] sitting next to it finished normally and yielded 5oz on a 4 week veg from seed in 3 gal coco. I think its clear which plant tastes better:yummy:

Hey red,

What are you trying to say, that you can smell my stinkin' ass all the way from South America? Haha, no the shower stall is only for waterings. I cant leave any standing water in the room becuase there will be a million bugs copulating in it when I come back to empty run off trays.

I want to accurately measure my yield with this group of plants, so I am going to document my energy use here-
Feb 28- March 6: 265 watts of CFLs 24/0
March 7 - 14:1000w HPS 16/8
March 14 - ?:1000w HPS 12/12

My goal is 2 pounds in 60 days, which would put me right at 1 gram per kilowatt-hour. Pretty ambitious and probably not going to happen, but I might as well set my sights high.
