Mac vs. PC - the great debate

People talk about the blue screen of death like it's an everyday occurrence. The last blue screen of death I had was due to a faulty 8800GTX graphics card a couple of years ago, and if that card was installed in a Mac it would have caused the same problems. I use a PC for around 7 hours a day and am constantly messing with the software and hardware, and that's the only BSOD I've seen.

Also, if you own a Mac, you have to be a clean-shaven, sweater-wearing, Starbucks-frequenting, Photoshop addict that enjoys crying to sad music and playing an acoustic guitar in the rain.

I can't afford these pockets

I just might be getting one of those Ipads.

It will be useful to have on my livingroom table, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, wherever. I'm not going to carry it around outside with me in my pocket like an asshat.

In a few months time, I might even be surfing this forum from my iPad. Do I really need it? Nope, I already have plenty of Macs. It will make certain things that I do more comfortable, fun and easy.

^^^ This is what the iPad is designed for: the leisure computing market. The context is at-home users who don't want to be toggled in the hunched over keyboard position, rather, want to browse and watch the boob tube.

Nothing wrong with something that will improve your quality of life.

For all of those bitching about the price, or about how silly the design is: don't buy one. It's that simple. There is a market for people willing to pay for it, and you are not in that market.

Well let's see how accurate you are - and I own quite a few Macs.

Clean-shaven? Occasionally. Nobody wants to look like a dirty bum.

Sweater wearing? Nope, can't say that I do.

Starbucks frequenting? Nope, I don't even drink coffee.

Photoshop addict? Nope, I don't use any photoshop.

Crying to sad music? Nope, can't say that I cry to any music.

Plays an acoustic guitar in the rain? Nope, I am more of an electronic dude.

So, you're basically wrong on all counts.

This is a weed forum. You should know better than to perpetuate stupid stereotypes, as there's plenty of ignorant people who go around and hold stupid stereotypes of pot smokers that are completely false.

So it is a netbook for twice as much, that you have to purchase apps for, and it doesn't have a keyboard? Sounds like a wise purchase...

Part of debating two products includes discussing the price?

Sooo looking forward to my quality of life improving when I'm
one hand typing with my right hand while holding the iPAD with my left hand. Can't wait. I mean I never do that with my laptop.

Maybe it'll come with some Apple branded disinfecting wipes for those those moments when I need to be on the interweb while taking taking a dump.

Then you obviously don't need to waste your precious money on that product which will do nothing for you.

I already have a laptop too (more than one), and guess what, I want one of those iPad's too. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

I'm thinking to myself "who uses a computer while taking a shit? I thought everybody smoked weed."

then you inspired me to "innovate (see: combine two existing products)" this. Talking to roor to market it as we speak.

People pay the high $$$ price for Macs for one reason: Mac OS X.

it is worth it to spend the extra money so you have a computer that you can actually use without freezing.

Yes so much more graceful when you substitute it with a background image and just tell the user to reboot.

The multi-touch screen opens up a whole new bunch of possibilities and ways of doing things. And yes, it does sound like a wise purchase from where I'm coming from.

Yup booger trails on the screen in one thing. Again this is where Apple approved disinfecting wipes will come in useful.

I might get some resin on the screen from my sticky fingers that just rolled a joint or whatever, but guess what, I don't give a fuck about that either.

I don't think the Ipad is such a bad idea really. I probably won't ever buy one, but I can see why somebody would. The touch screen on an Ipod Touch works brilliantly, and with the increase in size on an Ipad I think it'll be an even better device. I hope they install some high-quality speakers in it too, because the ones on the Ipod Touch are quite poor, and they'll be used a lot more on the Ipad.

The pricing seems to be surprisingly reasonable too. It'll be interesting to check out when they have them on display in the Apple store.

Edit: Just a thought, but I wonder whether the Ipad will support Flash. The Iphone and Ipod Touch don't, and many websites have Flash content or are entirely flash-based.

So much misinformation!!! I'm leaving now. Let the poop jokes continue...

International sales made up nearly 60 percent of Apple's revenue in the quarter, with sales more than doubling in the Asia Pacific and rising 40 percent in Europe.

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2521713920100126

Apple COO Tim Cook noted in the company's quarterly financial report conference call that that "US iPod sales contracted, at the unit level, 3% year over year," adding that "all the growth you see in our numbers, 22.7%, was all international."

Mac sales were also up, due in part to Apple's global reach. However, the PC market in general has actually contracted, making Apple's growth particularly noteworthy.

I don't buy that explanation.

Some people hate mac, and surely you'd think that they would have made a ton of viruses for the mac by now if they could, just to prove their point.

:tiphat:

I am 100% positive there is some viruses out there that effect the mac OS and I'm am sure there are people out there who hack macs every single day. Like I said, you just don't hear about it b/c it'll never be big news for the mere fact that macs will not be targeted by the big operations which you are guaranteed to see in the news.

hah your serious?

they stole the OS and have stole every OS apple puts out
if it wasn't for apple there wouldn't be a Microsoft.

There is a lot of history there dude!

I am not an elletist snob but i will tell you that after using PC my entire life and now having a MAC
I know i will never look back and kick myself everyday for not making the switch sooner.

Its not about money or looks its about the product working each and everytime as expected

its about installing a proggy in like 3 seconds versus 2 hours

its about function

PC's just dont function man

Sorry but if it wasn't for IBM there wouldn't be a Microsoft.

Lets not forget when Gates when to the head of IBM and said "guys I got something thats gonna put computers on the map." He goes on to say that all computers someday will require an operating system. They ask what do you need? He says 250,000 and a percentage of EVERY computer you sell that has it installed on it. They agree give him the check him and Bahlmer go to a guy who had a half ass operating system developed and sold it to them for 50,000. They spend the next few months in a motel behind a strip club living on pizza coke's and speed. They knew they had something when the got done because when they first fired it up it worked. The rest is history but imagine being the guy that gave away a billion dollar fortune for 50,000.

The Job's and Gates thing is personal and goes back to college if that gives you any idea.

As far as Mac vs PC?

Like anything else.

What makes YOU happy?
