Flowered too long?

Will some plants never have amber trichs? It's my first bagseed I grew and the trichs I see are mostly cloudy. The pistils look over ripe...11 weeks flower BTW.

I tested some about a month ago and it was decent, kind of a heady high. Is 3 months too long or can some flower longer?

just a newb

Not sure (bagseed) but from good smoke. It has the look of indica with a cat piss smell, sorta skunky.

Looked like this a month ago...

You really need a jewlers eye or a scope of some sort to see the trichs clearly if 50% are amber its a good time to harvest.

Yep, been using the Radio Shack 80x magnifier. I've watched the trichs till I'm cross-eyed. Even though some look they are a little bit amber, most are just cloudy and a few clear. It almost looks like the trichs are melting down into an oily residue on the buds.
Some of the calyxes are still swelling and shooting out new pistils.

One other note, I did chop off the big cola a month ago...it was big and thick and I thought it might mildew right on the plant. Smelled like cat piss amonia. Can that speed up the pistils turning?

Condition of the pistils don't mean as much as trichome colors/condition. Some plants just want to keep flowering, it's in their genes. You could try shortening the daylength more, like to 10-11 hours. Also, move the plant away from the light some, into a shadier part of the room. If you dried and smoked some and it seemed good, that's the best judge in my opinion.

If the triches are still mostly cloudy then they aren't overflowered, you could chop them now or let them go a little longer depending on your personal preference.

It's interesting that you mention chopping off a cola and that correlating to pistil ripness, because i have infact noticed that. My first grow i had to do the same thing, chop off a few colas because of mold. Anyways, all the pistils on the tops of the colas still on the plant turned brown and got really dry, the stems started to dry out too so i chopped it a few days later. I think it causes it to speed up if you harm the plant too much because it's basically dying. I don't know if chopping of one Cola would be enough to cause that though because your buds honestly look like they are growing healthy.

That happened to me on a bagseed grow once. I just chopped it when I couldn't stand watching them not turn amber anymore!

Thanks for all the replys, people, I really do appreciate it. This is my first grow and now my first harvest. That first plant really is more trial than anything. I have 4 or 5 other plants perpetually going on besides that one, but it is in a huge pot for my small flower cab and I really need the room. If it is no better after 3 months of flower, I see no need to do any cloning of that plant. The next one in line :bump: is much better, reminds me of moldy cheese with a citrus scent.

Thanks again and
As always, keep posting as I am still learning.

OK, so that would be the first I've heard some plants never go amber. That being the case, it has probably flowered a little bit too long. No matter, I was going to chop it in a day of two anyway.

I have also experienced some strains, no matter how long you flower them under ideal conditions, will not turn amber. Also other strains sometime keep re-growing new pistils and growth, it just depends. Since space is an issue for you, I think you're on the right track with chopping it down now. Let us know how it all goes. I love it when someone learns how to grow. A warning though, it is very addicitve, growing, collecting, and then you might find yourself breeding in time.

I typically look for full, puffed-looking trich heads as a sign of finishing. Good luck.

You already said they have some amber triches though right? I don't think they are overflowered since you said most of the triches are cloudy with some amber, it is perfectly fine to harvest at that point. I harvest around then usually, depending on the strain.

77 Days does sound like alot, but every pheno/plant is different. The only precise way to know when to harvest is by examining the triches. I had a bagseed grow when i was just starting out that looked Indica dom, but took about 80 days to flower. Alot of bagseed strains seem to grow at a weird rate and take long to flower.

Yeah, probably just the genetics. Once I get myself dialed in I plan on purchasing some good seeds. Are there alot of strains that will finish in 55 to 60 days?
