I realy want to make a 50 gallon set.The price of blowers is well more than I want to spend.I want to make it out of stainles steal. What im seing if I buy one like it ,it would be 1000 of dollars EWWW.What im thinking of doing is piping it up with med. grade stainless and running a argon purge and welding it out with tig.And buying a blower from a hot tub thats pushing 110 cf air and seting a dial on it so I could control the air flow.I have seen alot of the different mesh bag set ups and i would just build my own. This should work shouldnt it?

It's probably not necessary, but if your brewer has not been tested, there is really no way to tell what the dissolved oxygen levels are. I put my own brewer together, so it's really a crapshoot as to if I'm maintaining enough DO (I think I am, but am planning on getting a meter to be sure).

Tip: Allow light to reach ACT as it's brewing, that's one thing a lot of brewers miss.

Hey Maina,

sun light? or a MH runing over it? thanks for all the help guys !

Preferably sun light, maybe not within 2-3 hours of noon to lower amount of UV. I hang 2-3 incandescent bulbs above the water, about 10 inches.

Light isn't needed but from what studies I have read and from what I understand about microbes it is beneficial. Some people brew in containers that allows light to pass and brew outside.

Hey CC,

Not necessarily for PnSB, I am not sure how active they would be in ACT as it is being brewed, but the light should help them. The light is also for other microbes that benefit from it. Light isn't needed but if you can it's something worth looking into/considering.

LOL

I just realized this was NOT an EM thread but a compost tea thread.

Chalk it up to over medicating myself.

Your not over-medicating, but to be safe send the rest to me! There are PnSB in ACT (not all ACT) they are found in soils pretty commonly.

That's really funny to me, because a lot of my friends use the phrase "getting safe," implying medicating. I think CC would be far from Safe if he sent you the rest! lol

i must be doing something wrong

my brewer is a 3 gallon bucket (free) w/ an aquarium airstone and aquarium powerhead (already had) I just float the powerhead on some charcoal and brew w/ raw compost right in the bottom of the bucket

oh i know, i m a hobby farmer who stumbled into an agri-biz forum

Hey x,

People who can give you a better answer about your brewer then I will post Im sure, but I wanted to ask what you mean by "raw compost". Also, a 400 micron mesh ACT bag from CTGuy is only like $15, then you will get probably better ACT than by letting compost sit on the bottom of bucket.

I hear you on exposing more surface - i basically use more compost

in terms of "raw" i mean finished just not in some mechanism or bag

I have a theory about compost tea in nature: something to the effect of "a cow shits in a stream" yes, I know it's way more complex than that

but, i want to try to replicate that on a little acre or so of permaculture w/ a "stream" (well circ'd pond?)
