Massey to hold a press conference today, and lay out his plans for "his" bill:

The medical marijuana community has been filled with a mix of anticipation and dread in regard to the contents of a measure being assembled by Representative Tom Massey intended to regulate the industry. Many fear what's become known as the law-enforcement bill will limit the number of patients per caregiver to five, thereby essentially destroying the dispensary model. Well, the waiting game is almost over. Massey will hold a press conference about the bill at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon -- and a knowledgeable source says the results are apt to look closer to the original draft assembled by Senator Chris Romer than Colorado Attorney General John Suthers's dream legislation. The headline items: a one year "time out" to allow the industry to get organized and a shift away from dispensaries and toward clinics and health centers.
What is a one year "time out", have we been misbehaving children?

Regarding the question of a caregiver limit, the source says the bill will establish a distinction between regulated and unregulated providers of medical marijuana. The regulated ones -- the aforementioned clinics and health centers, which would presumably provide a wide range of medical services -- would be able to serve a large number of people, perhaps reaching the four-digit mark. Moreover, the clinics would likely be required to grow as much as 90 percent of their own product, in an effort to make tracking it that much straight-forward.
As for unregulated providers, a much stricter limit of patients per caregiver is anticipated.
I would love for him to note where in the CONSTITUTION the law that the citizens of Colorado voted on defines or mention regulated/unregulated providers.

Here's an article in which Boulder DA Garnett states that many of these changes would be UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

This better not turn into the 70s again.

Don't let it happen, guys. Get in their faces. You're the ones with the power. They need your vote. Your vote has power, only give it to someone that deserves it.

No...............This is just the "health centers" trying to corner the market and take it out of the hands of the small entrepreneurs. Anyone want to guess who owns or runs some of these so called health centers? Dare I say Pharmaceuticals??? Similar to the same bullshit going on in Michigan.

clinics to grow 90% of their own product? give me a break. these bureuacrats are so out of touch its unbelievable. it is painfully obvious they are only concerned with politicing and special interest rather than the needs/desires of their constituents.

Well I mean, if they aren't going to make sensible laws, let's ignore them just like we have done.

The government gets consent from the governed. John Locke (who contributed a lot to the formation of this country's ideals) said we have the right to overthrow an unjust government. That is pretty much the same concept. If a government is doing something that isn't just, stand up to it.

Civil Disobedience. HDThoreau evaded taxes and became a hero to many (myself included). Smoke some pot in honor of Thoreau and Emerson, fellas! :D

But both the democrats and republicans are trying to pass legislation like this... it doesn't matter which one you vote for.

you should not be voting based on party affiliation. That is the mistake this country has been making for the last 40 years. The citizens of this country need to start researching the voting habits of your local, state and federal candidates and voting based on how they voted in the past.

Party affiliation doesn't mean anything today because there is no difference in parties anymore. Sure you might get the few on each side who stick to the "old" style of Repub/Demo, but for the most part we are moving towards a Neocon (who aren't just republicans btw) run system.

We need to abolish political parties. I'm starting to think Jesse Ventura is right...

I know I sound like Little Mary Sunshine all the time with my (mostly) positive message but everything is gonna be alright, just like Mr. Bobby sang to us.

It won´t pass, at least not in the original form.

If it does pass it will cause a bunch of appeals that will likely be successful.

Some folks will find that opportunity springs from what at first appears to be an obstacle.

Since this is the work of politicians it will have unintended side effects which will make it much harder to hold back the tide of medicinal cannabis and eventually, legalization.

Whatever happens we will adapt and overcome. Always happens, never fails.

I tend to be an optimist as well, and really I don't think this has much chance. But never underestimate the corp/military/industrial/prison complex, they profit huge by keeping people down. People didn't listen to Eisenhower, who, IMHO was the last leader we've had who gave us any kind of straight talk.
