Is Nevilles Haze still the strongest haze?

I plan to see what comes out of the remaining seeds...maybe I get lucky and find just the right pheno, or two...would be nice to find again. :smokeit:

Also....yet another mutual friend had a pack in his fridge (from the same lot) and gifted those to me a couple months ago. So I've got something to start the quest again with!

Ummmmm, hells yeah:D Can't wait to see that thread started up

All I know is that I'm very thankful to the work both Neville and Shantibaba have both done for the modern haze grower and for haze period.. Also have mad respect for both these guys breeding skillz... SSH, Nev's Haze, MangoHaze, AfghanHaze, and others... These are just the ones I have first hand knowledge of and with proper selection applied all have amazing phenos to be had...

I don't think you'll find anyone who would disagree with you, all of the Neville/Shantibaba Haze work is killer. Regardless of where the genes originally came from, the quality of the breeding work and selections is undeniable and has stood the test of time.

Breeding isn't just about having the resources to do large numbers, it more about having the skills to make the proper selections. Clearly Neville and Shantibaba had the skills, their evidence is all over the place and the way so many have ripped off their genes to use in their own work shows you the quality.

The 'Hazes' and the term should be used lightly, 'Hays' would be more appropriate, that have come from the GHS stable since Neville and Shanti left shows you that creating strains of the quality of Nev's Haze, SSH, La Nina etc isn't a simple matter. Arjan and Franco have had over a decade to come up with a good Haze of their own and they haven't, if they had, why does Arjan still buy batches of original shanti SSH in to enter in cups as Super lemon Haze or whatever this year's new name he's dreamt up happens to be.

I was gifted some NH beans by MrHaze420 , he knows neville personally. He had them since 94 if i remember well. from the 25 two popped, 1 male , 1 female. Unfortunately , the place got busted before i was able to flower the fem, this are the only pics i got from them.

I believe it was 98 when Nev made the Nev's Haze and I think mrHaze got the name because he was involved in all the testing of the various Hazes Nev was working with at that time and ever since has been a huge supported of shanti and the Mr nice haze work.

Real shame you never got to flower those, but I;m sure you'll get the chance again!

someone finally nailed it, this is the very best description of the shit that i have seen, describes what i would refer to as the number 4 plant of the original haze.
imho, it smells like cat piss a bit late in flower and after the cure takes on the pine, sandalwood was the word!
it had to be the Nam Rengo Kyo

incense baby
i cant get enough

happhi im still unsure of the gifted sams stock you currently run which i believe you compare to #4?
which company is it available from if its at all available

id lov to hear sams speak on the number 4?
i find it interesting sams still hasnt spoke of the incense trait in ohaze

what would you say is currently the best representation of the #4 haze of the varieties available?

im fascinated wit frankincense n incense in haze the frankies i always speak of is spicy frankincense n catpiss
ime mns nevs haze n our nyc hazes express these traits

sounds #4 might survive in nyc

it had to be the Nam Rengo Kyo

wat the reference implying lotus flower, buddah, indian gentics ?

Great series of posts, Indifferent.

It is really too bad they didn't survive, Moppel. What strikes me about these plant photos is the broadness of leaf and that they both look 'relatively' uniform...

I'd give my left nut for some of Neville's NL5xHaze from late 80's

Yes he was involved in the testing of neville's stuff, i remember him telling how neville was culling 80% of the plants , just like dutchgrown says. And yea, than it must be 98 lol. He also gave me some '98 beans from ssh, nlx5 and kalimist , but from those not 1 popped. He might still have some of those old NH beans , i will ask him next time i see him.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for the MNS crew and all of their top notch genetics. If you are going to grow SSH or NH, the MNS beans are the way to go. I have grown their La Nina and absolutely loved it. However, I disagree that GHS has produced no good haze hybrids. The AH#1 and 2, AUH#1 and 2, and Hawaiian Snow are all very high end performers to grow and the high certainly ranks in the top 20% among haze hybrids. While they are not comparable to the very best NH phenos, they are also much easier to grow, yield quite well, and finish in 11-14 weeks indoors. Claiming that their SLH is simply relabeled MNS SSH detracts from your credibility. My partner just finished 20 SLH a month ago and they in no way resemble any SSH phenos in either appearance, taste, high, or yield (yield is a drawback for SLH). I don't have a horse in this race and do not want to ignite another MNS versus GHS hate debate. This is simply my opinion based on over thirty years of smoking and growing my favorite plant.

Oooo. I completely forgot about THAT pitfall that this thread could fall into. Please don't go there either, although I like the approach of assigning strain-based competencies rather than just Co. vs. Co. :)

i dont think that is what is ment here, i think he ment they entered a SSH in the last htcc as SLH. But thats another story. Lets not start with the GHS vs MNS debate.

He said that Arjan bought up the Mr. Nice Super Silver Haze in A-dam and entered it into the cups as Super Lemon Haze, not that Super Lemon Haze is relabeled Super Silver Haze.

I've heard this story several times as well...Are we sure this is FACT? Or is it just divisive speculation?

I mean, even a sewing circle wouldn't dare to touch some of these stories

Yeah, I meant that. I only mentioned it to support my point about the quality of the work neville and chanti did with NH, SSH etc. SSH won cups in 98-99 and is still winning them a decade later, that speaks for itself when it comes to the quality of SSH and the Haze parentals used in the Nev/shanti haze hybrids.

I know for a fact that last years entry (SLH) 100% sure was SSH (the so called amnesia/core cut), which is on the GH menu as SSH. Not to diss GH, but it is how it is. Other stories i will keep to myself for now ....lol.

Yes, my motivation in mentioning wasn't to diss GHS, it was to point out that SSH has been winning cups for more than 10 years now and that proves the quality of the Haze parents that went into making it.

Neville selected those parents over 20 years ago, it's about time someone was able to select new parents from large populations, the scene needs freshening up imho.

You know what they say about 'assumptions'......lol

I do know that Nev and Arjan were at one time partners.....Shanti worked at GHS....along with Nev...and that it is entirely possible.

I do recall asking Nev that day about his parent stock and he laughed as he told me about the castle, and how to that day (the day I visited him) his breeding male was not in anyone elses hands....but....living in the dam, and being around the 'scene' and privy to some things....I believe he did pass the last of his retained breeding stock to Shanti.

Thanks,
DG

Hi Dutchgrown i think i grew my nevilles haze f1s around the time you did and was around the time shanti had the swiss drama my seeds were also seeds made from nevilles infact a lot of people got
seeds made by neville as as at the time both shanti was partners and 1 of the 4 founders of GHS and neville was a partner in the coffe shop but not GHS neville did all the seed production on nevilles haze and ssh and supplied the seed to GHS why they never had his perent line.

Neville is partners with shanti and part of MNS and shanti does all the seed production now nevilles last work infact is the erlyqueen haze wich is a practicle haze line.

Roco no probs think looking at what similaritys we have and bring us togethers is more importent than the diffrence of opinons we have but dont hate any one so yep.

I want you show you all a ssh i selected 50% haze and ran 16 weeks from seed and still runs 16 weeks from clone odly most ran 16 weeks and best i think i saw was 14 weeks.

You can not tell honestly tell me theres any noticeble indica traits in this becouse i sure cant see any yet even running at 16 weeks and as we all know she is a 50% haze hybrid.
