Nice one, couple of weeks till mine is ready for harvest, can't wait.

The coating of resin on this KC S1 is getting pretty thick now, glad I kept cuts of both phenos, this one looks like it will be superb for hash making.

The KC S1s are getting very purple now. The leafy one looks stupidly white from resin, this one isn't lacking in resin either and is really purple.

The cut of that one is a week or more behind and is not quite so purple.

Just starting flushing the bigger ones, will start flushing the smaller cut in a few days, aiming to chop these in about 2 weeks.

Looking forward to making hash from these, lots of nice bulbous heads to remove.

The flash makes it look bright, to the naked eye it is a darker purple, unusually dark compared to a lot of purples I've done.

I'm going to start the other two KC S1 seeds I have, now I've seen that there is variation there to be explored.

I've got three Bubblicious males to choose between, I'll pick one and cross it to cuts of both these KC S1s cost hey are really lacking in yield and the Bubblicious yields enormous.

There's not much berry in the original KC, that's for sure - my primary aromas of that whilst growing are celery, cheese and dusty cellars. Once dried, the celery smell seems to fade to a sweeter, slightly fruity smell, with creamy or slight chocolate flavours, but overall it's definitely a 'savoury' strain. I'm still thinking there's some kind of DJ Short-type plant involved in the heritage of this plant though, as physically it shares so many traits with the BB/Flo family it's unreal.

I don't find the KC berry at all either. My nose isn't the best but taste-wise, grown in coco with loads of molasses and guano it came out like milk chocolate. Samples grown in earth were more earthy and dark, hints of leather, roast beef and hash, less sweet for sure.

I wonder how many years it takes for a genome to acclimate itself to a new environment?

I can see the KC being something commercial adapted to Jamaica, I suspect it is a 'collie' weed that stems from the introduction of modern stock in the 1980s, but that means it could be anything. I see it being a Kush type indica adapted to Jamaica.

Eman and I have jokingly chatted about the irony of it being something from DJ originally and I wouldn't discount that possibility, as Eman says, there are some spooky similarities.

It is only possible to acclimatise a specific individual to a specific environ with breeding. A specific clone that doesn't like a specific environ never will :D

Working from parent stock,, then it takes several generations ,, based on selection.

I won't go into any detail about the origins, but knowing where and who he KC came from originally, I am 99% certain it isn't bred in any way, it's just a strain kept and grown in a rural area by a family because they liked it a lot. It would have been grown from seed every year, maybe three times a year, in the two short and one long seasons they have there. you know the Jamaican methods - throw a tyre on the ground fill it with dirt and throw seeds down, leave them to the Blessings on Jah to provide, or did a hole, drop a dead fish in the bottom, refill and drop seeds in that, again, letting Jah provide. Therefore, there would have been adaptation by natural selection with each successive filial generation. Depending on how long the original genes have been on the island, that could be a lot of generations.

With all the collie weed being grown in the 80s, there would have been an immense amount of commercial indica hybrid pollen drifting about the island, which is why the original lambsbread south indian sativa genes are gone in pure form, everything got polluted. Then again, the interior of Jamaica is one of the most rugged places on earth, it's full of sinkholes with accompanying steep cliffs and escarpements - the infamous 'Cockpit Country' the Maroons led the Brits a merry dance through. It's also very, very damp and humid so could I believe that there are places where the humidity and geography preclude the drifting in on the wind of pollen? Sure I do, and given that most of the ganja growing in Jamaica is in this Cockpit Country in the most innacessible and well-hidden of spots, such as at the top of cliffs that must be climbed to gain access to the ganja plots.

So while I think KC was probably grown by the side of a shack alongside the collared greens and mangos and wasn't 'kept' in any way, it could be a pure line that isn't a hybrid between local sativa genes and imported indicas/hybrids, maybe that shack was in a place where the geography and humidity lent itself to lines staying unpolluted and the KC has never received a pollen input drifted in on the wind.

My money is still on it being a kush/afghan/paki hashplant indica that has adapted itself to Jamaica. If I had a few hundred S1s and a field in the tropics to grow em out, I would be able to determine if it is a pure line or a hybrid of a true Jamaican sativa to an indica/hybrid import, but there aren't hundreds of S1s in existence and that tropical field is purely imaginary.

That's just an overview of the speculation possibilities. Feel free to speculate, but please remember it is only speculation and we will never know any more details on the origins of this unique beauty. Remember the later Jamaican find from the same source - 'Hazel Skunk' turns out it's called Hazel cos that was the name of the guy who grew it, and Skunk, well, if you are a Jamaican grower and are selling your product to westerners, you tack on such names as they have cache.

Here's the 'Hazel Skunk', just for fun, from a couple of years ago, grown outdoors in the UK, and also looking awfully like a BB/Flo selection. It smelled beautiful - somewhere between Flo and SAGE, with a fruity/herb mix that's very difficult to describe:

And just for comparison, the Kentish Creme again, grown in the same crop - not necessarily a low yielder:

The amazing thing about both is that they finish outdoors in the UK!

That suggests an indica heritage to me.

Does the Hazel Skunk survive in clone form or was it a one-shot deal?

This one does look quite a lo like one of my S1s, it seems to be a fairly consistent genetic.

There's no clones of that one, sadly - they were all from seed, and not kept. I think my friend might have a few seeds of that batch left, but they're off over there again in a month or two, so there'll probably be a new lot to play with later on this year...;)

Yo dude ,, your pm system is switched off ,, so gonna message you here instead... until then

Good to see you back online brethren :friends: Kentish Creme is a strange plant,,, we have one that doesnt want to grow under 20hr 30w,, and another that is flowering ok under 400w 12/12. Max Lumens has turned one of the clones into a monster already...lol :bandit:

Overall,, KC looks and acts much like BeAn's Congo x Nepal IMO... we got em flowering side by side,, so we'll see how they mature,, :canabis:

Otherwise... the Painted Lady grows on... Hopefully this proves the nay-sayers wrong that fem. seeds are no use /sterile for breeding... Once established x1 female will be stressed like hell to test sexual stability,, afterwhich we should be good to grow.. :D

Be well..

peace, love, n flowers

That's good news, I eagerly await their return!

I discovered I don't have cuttings of both the KC S1s, both the cuttings I have rooted and growing are from the leafy #2 pheno. So I decided to cut down the small KC #1 cutting so I can reveg it. It has a few ambers, but still a load of clears, so a tad early, but it's more important to reveg her than let her get 100% ripe. Yield is tiny but the resin is incredible.

The resin is in a very thick coating and a fair few trichomes have purple veins in them:

Here's the dispensation clone (NLHazex303) looking massive and scary with traditional clothes horse for scale. This pic was taken side on the plant is double the width from the other side
picture.php

this thing reeks but not of cannabis. Sweet hazey chemical smell like a cross between nail varnish+remover and turkish delight from the resin and the leaves/stem smell of ginger when rubbed, sounds weird but it's totally amazing. Nothing else smells like this and it's a bonus that it's the strongest thing I've grown or smoked.

and here's some cheese and then psychosis although they may be mixed up
