Cops: E. Hampton harbormaster had pot in car
January 6, 2010 by JOHN VALENTI / john.valenti@newsday.com

East Hampton Town harbormaster Don Bousson has been arrested on possession of marijuana charges after an anonymous tipster in Florida alerted Suffolk Crime Stoppers, police said Wednesday.

Bousson, 55, was "shocked" when officers stopped him on Three Mile Harbor Road in East Hampton Monday night at a roadblock - a checkpoint set up because of the call to Crime Stoppers, East Hampton Police chief Todd H. Sarris said. "I think the appropriate word would be nervous," he said. "I think he was shocked."

Police found a half-pound of marijuana in the car and arrested Bousson, charging him with third-degree illegal possession of marijuana - a Class E felony punishable by 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison if convicted.

"The system does work," Sarris said.

Police said a caller contacted the Suffolk County Police Crime Stoppers hotline at about 6:30 p.m. Monday - and said Bousson was arrested less than two hours later.

Sarris said the Crime Stoppers call originated in Florida and said the caller told Bousson was en route from Florida with the marijuana in his car.

He said the caller gave police a description of the car and Bousson, including his name and date of birth.

He said Suffolk County Police immediately contacted East Hampton Police and that two units were dispatched to establish a checkpoint.

Sarris said Bousson was stopped at that location at 8:15 p.m. He said officers found the marijuana, which police believe was for personal use.

Bousson has worked for the Town of East Hampton for 21 years and faces sanctions or dismissal by the town board in addition to possible jail or prison time. Officials said Bousson has been relieved of duty pending a decision by the town board.

Sarris said his department is preparing "paperwork on the case" for presentation to the board. It is unclear when the board would meet to make a decision on the case - or if it would wait until a resolution of the legal case against Bousson.

Bousson appeared in East Hampton Town Justice Court Tuesday for arraignment and was released on $500 bail after entering a not guilty plea.

Sarris said he was disappointed by the arrest. "He's a law enforcement officer. Even though he's not a cop, he's a peace officer. He wearing a weapon . . . And I think that all has to be factored in" to the town board's decision, he said.

If that would have been a normal citizen, they would have had traffic charges along with intent to distribute, and I'm surprised they didn't set the road block up by a church just to double f*$# him.

Harbormaster is still a gun carrying law enforcement officer, who do you think is going to get you when your smoking it up at the dock on your boat? This guy.
I live in a state with a shitload of lakes, these guys bust people all the time for alcohol and weed here, more then anything else I think.

Sounds like he pissed someone off and got set-up...as fucked up as that still is, even for a Harbor Master, to get ratted on.

If it were anyone from this forum, it would be federal interstate transportation charges. Plus, a search warrant of his house. Any firearm found would be an additional charge, and any baggies found would bring an "expert" into court to testify that it was intended for distribution.

Yup - and no fucking 500 dollar bond, either.

Forfeit car, sit in slammer getting your ass stretched.

The gun alone would have gotten any of us 10 years...

I don't care who/what/why - he is leo, and leo are douches.

Especially leo that screw us over, then hit a J before bed...

Fuck him - he's one of us now, and should pay like they make us pay...

His fines and penalties should be doubled. Anyone being payed to uphold the law should be dealt with swiftly, and harshly, for breaking it. PERIOD.

Who of us buy 8oz's for personal use?

Come on guys, we know nothing of this guys past record as far as ball-busting goes.

Granted, most cops go into that "field" with an agenda, but some may still just view it as a job...

I still can't help seeing him as a fellow pot-smoker, even if he's LEO...

Flame away

If this guy is anything like the water safety patrol here then he deserved it, 90% of these peoples job is basically to stop you from relaxing and enjoying yourself on your boat.
Not busting major criminals, not even busting petty thieves, no, they bust people for alcohol and weed on their boats.
Tough girl got it right, this hypocrite deserves double penalties.

Take your pic which one it was..................

That was the point of my post, there's a whole lot of IF being posted without knowing anything else.

Judge away folks...

It's not like he imposed his (lighter) charges/fines on himself...blame that on the two-faced society.
