Ice Cream (Paradise Seeds) New

I'm somewhat sympathetic to Paradise keeping the genetic background/makeup of their strains secret as it allows them to keep an exclusive claim on the strains. Also, by releasing their best sellers strictly as femmed seeds they can keep other breeders from f2'ing or inbreeding their lines in their pure form. The possibility still remains for someone to BX their femmed lines but that would take awhile and with no guarantee of an honest reproduction. People could also S1 their work but I think most would prefer to buy from the original source, even at a higher price. They have the closest thing I have seen to copyright on their strains and that equals $$$... they did the work to bring out these gems so can we really blame them for trying to protect their work? Unlike the work of many seed co's around I'm yet to hear a single post stating 'I hated the Opium/Spoetnik#1' etc. For now, it seems everything they touch turns to gold. Or maybe they are just professionals in a market flooded with amateur work. To all those who have posted pics and shared their experiences with this strain, thankyou very much... Hopefully I'll drop some pics in aswell in the not too distant future... :respect:

Humbling post. From my limited experience with Paradise Seeds they have been stellar. The Ice Cream, Opium and Nebula's were all top notch. I would agree they are golden strains that I wouldn't ever want to lose. They have done amazing work on their genetics and do deserve the choice to prevent amateurs from making F2's or other tasks that could potentially reduce or remove key expressions sought out by the strain developers. As long as they keep releasing fine quality genetics that are widely available to the public, it doesn't affect me all that much. Although, I would love to see a whole selection of Ice Cream crosses, I guess they will all have to be with the Ice Cream as the mother. Which will take longer to pin point the right male expressions, since it's a lot harder to initially see what expressions a male has before crossing it to a number or strains or a couple dominant and stably expressing ibl's like Deep chunk. =]

Another thought behind the reason they might be keeping the genetics secret: When I was talking to Danny Danko from High Times at one of their conventions. He said that a fair amount of breeders who started off in Amsterdam breed with a handful of genetics that grow well in the cold climates of Amsterdam. Of course there is always many exceptions, but according to him Paradise mainly uses genetic staples that have been around for some time. They are crossed together with key winning phenos or with other top end non-Holland genetics from around the world. It could be that many of the strains are based on strains such as Northern Lights to name one, and some people in the cannabis community might attach some stigma to the older, but not necessarily inferior genetics. (The Ice Cream and Nebula rock my mind and world out of the park) :bat:. I wonder if Paradise worried about people going with other crosses from newer strains, feeling they would be better. When Paradise and those who have tried their genetics know they are all true gem's and should be respected as such. This is just an inkling. If anyone has a good argument against Paradise's genetic hording and secrecy I'm always open to listening to new perspectives or exposure to points I haven't heard yet =]

Again, from my experience, many of the strains from Paradise have gone far beyond the highs, smells and tastes of even some of the top breeders in the game. I'm in line to try every single Paradise strain I can, regardless of how many new Chemdawg or Sour Diesel crosses come out. Which of course I will be trying as well :smoke: but my affinity for the paradise strains I've tried so far is so strong the other big cuts don't deter my enchantment with trying all that Paradise has to offer. Ice Cream and Nebula are still some of the best and most exotic strains I've come across. Still waiting on a totem pole, true Opium pheno. The one's I tried actually smelled a lot like Ice Cream, and Grape Jelly that I wondered if Ice Cream was used in Opium? They seemed to be the off-shoot pheno's not the cover photo Opium(the totem), that my friend finally got going.

For anyone who's grown Ice Cream. Of two seeds planted, one was a mutant with only one first true leaf. The other side was a purplish stump instead of a leaf and the seedling had no apical growth so I yanked it.

The other had normal growth in a 8oz cup. I transplanted it into a (1) gallon pot after it produced it's first set of fan leaves. It has added two more nodes since (one week ago) but has not grown out or up. It looks like a perfect tiny 4" tall, 2" wide plant.

I've never seen a plant (not) grow like this before. Does it just stall until it builds up it's root system or do have another freak on my hands?

przcvctm,

I've personally seen over 7 Ice Cream's grow fine in veg and flower. The biggest one was 4+ tall feet before it was flowered, vegged for 5-6 weeks. hehe

The plants were not topped until a little later in its life, I wonder if it had to do with the early topping? Shouldn't be an issue though I've seen others do it fine.

Also keep in mind, Ice Cream is a little more sensitive to feeding than others I've seen. I would start off with 40% nute strength and not go above 55% during veg
and 75% during flowering. But hey, if anyone wants to see how it does in higher ppm, let me know.

@przcvctm I had an icecream runt. It turned out to have the biggest sticky main cola (a perfect round top, not spear shaped at all). I know for sure it didn't like to be fimmed. 2 were stretchy in veg, very vigorous, and didn't mind the lst as much. The last one was almost pure indica, very puffy round buds and didn't stretch more than an inch on 12-12.

More info and less clutter:

I'm 99% sure there is afghan in this or something near that region with that typical musky, earthy, hash smell breed out. Mine were fruity with skunk undertones and smelled of rotting meat the last week. Also tasted piney like you said.

Reasons why I think this.
1) Has some of the hardest stems I have ever seen.
2) The yield (some phenos look like big bud at the end)
3) Not much stretch on some phenos after 12-12.
4) Wide/huge fan leaf fingers and very dark green.
5) short flower time
6) Rotting meat smell typical of afghan

I would guess that it's some kind of worked hindu kush/afghan x some type of old school sativa skunk before it became afghan dominant. Just a guess.

Definately going to pick up 2 10 packs and look for a heavy yielding grape pheno, purple if possible to cross to my purple urkle ibl male (The male is completely purple in veg even some leaves and has a metal grape smell) I can't wait lol. My version of gdp hehe.

I heart this thread so much! Keep up the work guys! heh I'm out :tree:

For brevity sake, I didn't mention two others that did the same thing about a month ago. Both sprouted in 8oz cups of Amazon Bloom and grew out the first fans before being transplanted into 1 gal. of AB fortified with 2 tablespoons of Rainbow mix (5-5-2)/gallon. And there, in healthy suspended animation they stayed for 7-10 days, before I freaked over a security scare and tore down.

My guess is that they (and the one I'm currently growing) don't dig the nutrient rich soil that surrounds them maybe and aren't stretching their roots out into it.

Anyway, down to 16 seeds now.

przcvctm,

All the ones I saw were hydro. Try reducing the nutrient levels in the dirt. Usually 50% of the recommended measurement written on the nutrient power or liquid (rainbow mix) is all you need. If you are using in your own homemade dirt try dilluting it (AB fortified) 50% using perlite? and other fillers. I'm nowhere near as experienced with dirt grows, so please double check the accuracy of what to use as a filler to dilute home made dirt solutions. Once you hit the nutrient sweet spot in Ice Cream, she blows up in flowering more than most.

Sourdeezy,

Hmm.. I've experienced hindu kush's that had similar waves of euphoria in the body, although, it was a while ago. Not a bad stab at it's possible genetics. I can't wait to try some ice cream crosses.

Ice Cream x purple urkle ibl sounds sick. I'd love to get my hands on some of them when they are done =]

I would also be very excited to see Double Purple Doja [Apollo 13 x Ak 47 x Blackberry] x Ice Cream

Thanks for stopping by your feedback and input has been most helpful in putting together the secret pieces of what makes ice cream so great. =]

Thanks for the thread,

I am very interested in Ice Cream. It looks so delicious!

I grew the Nebula, but sadly did not regenerate the plant.Ugh

I love the Nebula Flavor and the buzz is amazing.

Nebula is the dankest and stickiest bud I have ever grown. Also way stinkier than any of the O.G. IMHO
Does not stink as bad in the grow as O.G. only when plants are disturbed do they put off the pungent odor.
Based on the Nebula, I bet the Ice Cream is equally fantastic.

For some reason,Harborside Health Center can't get Paradise seeds.

They have tons of different seeds from most of the top companies and breeders,

But Paradise seeds are not available there yet.

I hope to get the cut back again this year. This time I will make a mom.

More pics of the Ice Cream please.I hope this thread will get this strain out their in the clubs for us to enjoy.

Can't wait for someone to make some Double Purple Doja x Ice Cream or Black Russian x Ice Cream crosses.
SourDeezy, Yup the highly praised Sputnik, Princess 75 x Genius dominant purple line used the Black Russian on version 1.0 and 2.0. My friend has a pack of Sputnik 2.0 F2's hope they retain the magic.

Some info on SomaBlaze's Blackberry - Posted by CocoJoe:

"Hello, I know there are people here that know the story. Maybe they can not be bothered. Don't know Don't care. But I love the facts.

A guy with the handle of SomaBlaze popped some bagseed. One girl was dark purple. She was a purty gal, but had no potency. He passed out a few clones to friends. Nebu and I believe Subcool was the other guy. Subcool crossed said clone with AK47 if memory serves. He called the cross Black Russian. The seeds were sold on an auction site. One pack was bought by OrgnKid of Cali Kush seeds, a member known for bringing Bubba Kush to others. He selfed the best female he got. Then sold the seeds as Blackberry S1. There is no such thing as Blackberry with potency. The real BB had no potency. If you are growing something called Blackberry and it has some potency it is not pure Blackberry. Blackberry was a purty gal and she had no wack to her.
SomaBlaze has passed on...RIP. I am not sure but believe no one holds the original clone anymore. I believe Subcool gave up on purple strains because of the potency issue. That was 3 or 4 years ago and things do change."

Some other people's Pictures of Black Russian. The photo on the left looks very similar to the nugs from my friend's Magic Merlin grow, by Outlaw Genetics. Absolutely beautiful:
So a quick recap, the Blackberry S1's currently around are really a S1 of the prized pheno of Black Russian (AK 47 x The original Blackberry - a non potent purple strain from bag seed).

And here is some of the wonderful (Double Purple Doja): Apollo 13 x Black Russian. When the Trich's heads and stocks are done they turn Blood Red, not Amber. Great shot by Ocannabis.

Holy crap, BioHazard...that last pic is gorgeous!

Agreed...Wow never seen red trics until now. I just want to lick my screen now hah

Thanks fo the info Bi0 :)

I bought some blackberry from female seeds awhile back and it was nothing like this. Complete knock off. It smells of raspberry but has no trics at all.

Sourdeezy,

The genetics you most likely got were: Black Domina x White Russian. A lot of breeders were passing that around as black Russian. A little dishonest, but the name does still fit the cross.

still remember that Blackberry... the pics Somablaze (RIP) posted of the nugs on OG were some of the most awe inspiring nug shots I've ever seen. A few years ago they gave out freebies by the name of veryberrysurprise, which most seemed to agree were S1's of the original Somablaze clone. I've got a few of them left and I am going to make it a top priority once I can grow again to cube the strain or at least make a shitload of fem'd seeds from the plants I get. Or, imagine blackberry s1 crossed to a pineapple C99 male, then taking the most impressive resulting male and pollinate an ice cream plant... I'm dribbling...

Mountain Monkey. You got me drooling as well. Go for it. Also my friend was lucky enough to get some Double Purple Doja F3's from Outlaw genetics. The exact genetics shown in the last amazing purple pic by Ocannabis.

FireFly22,

Thanks for your input. It's reassuring to hear other people point out specific Afghani traits, that they are familiar with when referring to Ice Cream's growth. Sour Deezy seems to be on the money with his lineage hypothesis. It will be nice when the pictures are up, but in the mean time have you grown much Hindu Kush? If so, see if you notice any of its characteristics during flowering and/or smoke report =]

I think it's quite important to try to get as close as possible to understanding the genetics make up of Ice Cream, especially if we want to go about creating the best crosses in the future.

Hey BiO,
No, No Hindu Kush. I have grown many stains, and these look alot like DJ's Blueberry in growth. Even the purple stems and petioles. I have 2 in flower now. Of the other 3 one grew in a whirl pattern, one is a runt and the other looks different then all the rest, no color.
I will be running these outdoors as well and hope to find a keeper mom by the fall.
I also have some (NL5 X Haze) x Strawberry Cough pollen ( which is an amazingly strong and tasty F1 series) which was gifted to me for the sake of crossing with Ice Cream.
As well I will be awaiting some of Mosca's C99 Bx1 from which I hope to find a pine-apply male to cross. I'm currently evaluating Moscas C99 x Double Dutch, which has some of the tastiest phenos I have ever come across, with a nice speedy, alert buzz that has no crash....Stay tuned.
PS. I have grown
Magus Warlock, Biddy Early and Biddy's sister
Mosca's C99 x Double Dutch (Fire Fly) Current Grow
GH Arjan's Haze #3
DJ Short Blueberry
Serious Chronic
THseeds HDF
BCbuddepot BC Sweet tooth
Sensi Mother's Finest
Mandala Mandala#1
NL#5 Haze x Strawberry Cough
Dutch Passions White Widow
and many many others

FireFly22,

Thanks for explaining your experiences with Ice Cream in more detail. It's interesting that you mentioned the DJ's Blueberry as a possible cross. It does have a great relaxation effect, and amazing tastes that could be in the mix. That would be interesting if true.

Also, those Ice Cream crosses sound amazing. Strawberry cough would go great with Ice Cream, especially given its prevalent body pulsations apparent in its high, and NL5 x Haze will add some more bite to the high as well as flowering stretch.

There was an other user on this thread who was talking about using a Pineapple c99 with ice cream, and then ended up getting the wallyduck pineapple c99's as freebies a week later. I can't wait to see what arises from these new crossing endeavors.

Best wishes
