I am confused, how does this square with what CFL King posted:



it seems he is saying you need 10,000 lumens per sq ft, which for me would be 6 sq ft., which would be 60,000 lumens, an impossibly high number for such a small space. Should I focus on wattage instead of lumens? If so, why would King post such a confusing formula?

hey, this is what you can achieve with roughly 6500 lumens/ square foot. my total yield was 7.2 ounces from 2 plants with nearly 6 ounces of that from the lp1. i didnt utilize the cfl's as efficiently as i could have, most didnt have a reflector. 1st 3 pics are from harvest day on my last grow, last pic is a closet view giving an idea of how i had them arranged, it was from around day 42.

hey luigi4bud, here are some shots from my current grow. i dont have a picture of my homemade hoods, but here are the girls in flower currently. the buds are bigger this go round with less watts than they were this time in flower last time. so the hoods are much more efficient than just hanging the cfl's all over like i did last time. my canopy is basically even this time too though. the light is concentrated right over the girls and penetrates better than it did last time. this isnt exactly a micro grow, but i didnt see a cfl thread in the regular forums, only in the micro section. im not getting a gram/ watt, but i am very happy with my results. i intend to upgrade to a large double doored cabinet and some t-5 HO's next grow hopefully. they work better than cfl's in larger spaces. the grow cab will be nearly 12 square feet. so cfl's would be a nightmare in there. i may even get a 600W hps and supplement with cfl's or t5-HO's. any way, good luck whatever you do. the girls were in an 18 gallon tote last grow and are in the same this grow. but last grow they were trained over a much larger footprint, they are contained within the tote this time so square footage is smaller. 2 girls last time, and 5 this time.

Wal mart, target , home depot lowes. These things are catching on.

If you are out of this country any big store should have them. Look in the lighting section.

Hey everyone..Thought I'd drop by to show you my Cfl setup. I am using a Lian-Li aluminum server tower with 1.44 cubic feet of space.
You can get some pretty big bulbs at 1000bulbs.com or e-light too.
just in the process of building 2 scrubbers.
Had it going once and the temps were a steady 81, which isn't bad at all.
I have a delta fan rated at 151cfm and its 1.04 amps
I am waiting for a manual speed controller for the delta then I'll germ some Skunk/Haze seeds
2-43 watt 2700k
1-23 watt 2700k
2-30 watt 5500k
1-23 watt 6500k
any feedback would be welcome

He asked about 42w bulbs. A six pack of 26w bulbs costs less than $6 here. I think they are subsidized by the power company though.

I use the 23 and 26 watters at 4 for 6 or 7 bucks. On the end of the isle, they have singles for 92 cents.

If you have the choice always go with the higher wattage, a common misconception is that CFL lumens are cumulative. Which is not the case, for instance (arbitrary #'s, only for examples sake), if you have 10 1000 lumen cfl's many believe that you would have 10,000 lumens.

So spend the extra cash and get at least 42w's, it is worth it.

P.S. - This info is as much from personal XP as it is research.

I used 2 X 125W Blue for veg and 2 X 125W Red for Flower.

Seems to work for me.

I am getting 1 X 250W Red for the next run. Add that to the 2 X 125W Red and it should be even better for flowering.

Hey BC Chronic, nice looking case you have there bro, I'm no PC case expert but in your last photo you should try to move or tie that powercord away from that last bulb, CFLs do get hot and that cord will burn over time, just my bro, otherwise fill it up with plants and start cranking out buds.

I have one of those plastic covers they use to route wires around cars for installing car audio. Think I'll use one of those or wrap it a dozen times with something!?
Any ideas?

I thought I'd post this for anybody going to buy some CFL bulbs. From another thread on ICMAG---

before you pop open the cfl boxes from lowes, were they bight effects? that is one brand of cfl that doesn't have too good a reputation for reliability. Home Depot's brand, Nvision, has better rep.

Just did a quick test with my light meter.
I put the light meter at a center point below the 2 bulbs.
8 inches below the bulbs, the lights spaced 8 inches apart.
One t5 strip - 260 footcandles
After turning on the second - 500 footcandles

I respect your personal experience and all but it's hard to argue with a light meter. If you click the arrow next to dongle's name, you can read the whole thread. Lumens are cumulative.
