Well yeah that's my current technique and considering it's the easiest, I notice no difference in germination rate if you soak them. I actually suck at growing seedlings but I had a lot of practice counting germination rates due to that, lol. Also it's near impossible to plant them in the right orientation when they're wet.
I never use domes personally. Maybe for a cutting if it needed it but a seedling can handle the harsh outdoors fine. It has a root structure that grows from the beginning and always supports the plant's needs at any particular stage so there's no need for a dome with seedlings imo.
I skip paper towels too, you just want them in the dirt doing their thing and it serves no purpose to be growing them in a soggy bit of paper with bleach in it, that gets exposed to light regularly. Hope it helps bro.

No worries man! I usually plant them about 1/4"-3/8" deep and my cab temps usually stay around 80 +/- 5 degrees.
Mary John I do have a heat mat but have only used it during the 'paper towel' method, than when they go into soil I am not using it and solely relying on the cab temps to warm them....you think I should put that heat mat into my cab? I was just worried it'd raise temps in the cab a lot....
any and all info appreciated. Feedback and criticism are really the best ways for me to learn.
edit: i just got home from work and the little girl *fingers crossed* got ever so bigger and now the smallest leaves that were just starting have side leaves coming out!!!! I'm a happy papa.
Read through seems your seedlings are dieing.
I start seeds like this and it always works I never worry..
Put seeds in the middle of a folded paper towel that is very moist. Fold the paper towel first then the seeds in the thick middle though. Then put into airtight ziplock somewhere warm. In a pile of shirts works nice.
When the seeds have popped tails put them in there starting medium (water bottle or party cup is good) keep soil moist. I mist the soil as I fill it up. Put seeds in, use a pencil to make hole like 3/4". Plant so the head is only like 1/4" under the surface hit it with mist =) and cover soil. Keep in a dark, warm area and keep them moist, mist them once a day until they pop or if they start to go dry. Once they pop above put them under lights and they turn green. They dont need light to break soil.

Looks awesome dude. I got 4 out of 4 seeds popped 
Yeah I dunno about the soil drying out, that's a point. One thing I think of is that it looks like you have all 3 lights running, which seems overkill for a 2wk plant. If you scale back to 1 or 2 cfls, you don't need a tornado in there. If you look at the big grow rooms, they (almost) all use fluoro for the initial stages. This is despite having all the hps power they want - they still use regular old fluoro tubes and CFLs, so hps is just not the best light for younger plants. You want blue light like daylight CFLs or a metal halide bulb, for optimal. Happy grows

My little S1 is growing but the leaves are a little messed up and droopy.
Any ideas as to why? over watering?
o and I have some of this weird shit on some of my soil I have in a rubbermaid. IDK wat it is but I'm pretty sure its not good, and I may have to throw it all away.

Looking good. I like your lamp solution
It kind of looks like perlite, the white stuff in your pots. Besides it's pretty normal to get a little white mold on top of soil pots, it doesn't harm the plant

Its definitely not perilite. But thanks for the input on my lamps
