Non lethal weapons and protection

So recently i've been checking into non lethal weapons and non letal ammunition, ie beanbag rounds, rock salt, and rubber bullets. So my question is, if a shotgun or hand gun loaded with non lethal rounds is it the same in the eyes of the law compared to a full metal jacket or hollow points. just checkin in to ways of keep myself, and my home safe. :) Any ideas?

In nearly every country I know of, a firearm is considered a lethal weapon regardless of what it's loaded with. Unless it is something built from the ground up to be a non-lethal projectile weapon (taser, beanbag bazooka, etc) it's generally seen as a lethal implement by the courts if it comes to that.

Very few places consider what kind of ammo (such as HP, FMJ, SL, etc) that you're using. Consider this however. It's very hard for the guy who was trying to kill you to testify against you if he's in the morgue. Been in that situation more than a few times but I'm out of the big cities and global areas where that happens and hopefully have that behind me.

If you have to have something that works as a weapon that's "less lethal" (remember, you can off someone with a pillow if you try hard enough) I'd choose a 4 cell maglite. I'd load it with lead acid batteries and I'd use it as a crackhead-be-good stick. That's the only other thing I've had come up in court. Lemmie tell you "all I had to defend myself was my flashlight" worked out pretty well. They throw pretty well too. Just be sure to keep a practice flashlight for that so they don't see you've been practicing nailing a cabbage from across your yard all week.

Pepper spray works but really really sucks in confined areas. If you're in an open area I always went with the spray, swat, spray tactic. Hose 'em down at a distance, dart in while they're screaming and bash them a few times, then stand back and keep hosing them till they can't move much.

Personally I'm not hedging my bets on getting raided. I'm hedging my bets on getting burglarized. But, like I've said before, it depends on your area.

hahaha. i got hit on the head with a 4cell maglite by a cop at a house party when i was a kid. I keep one under the seat in my car, one on my desk and one out in the garden. fookin deadleh.

the rifle i am using is a ground-up less than lethal weapon. it will not shoot anything but LTL rounds.

Check out what trained guard dogs cost, a level 3-4 shepherd is around 15-20K, add 5-10K for dobies and rotts. I'm freakin serious, those dogs are trained to do hundreds of things (like automatically patrolling certain areas, keeping perimeters around kids, etc) but shit that's some serious $$$$

my neighbor breeds and trains...most of the guard dogs wont attack when they are not on command. i have a rottie but it is nowhere near a guard dog lol my lab is more of a guard dog. pitbulls are nice but i think rotties are a much better looking dog and overall just as good of a guard dog as a pit. my friends got a few puppies and the pits just sit there and bite at your ankle or anything else they can chew. my favorite dog is the german sheapard which is the most loyal dog i have ever owned as wel as the smartest, you can have dogs trained anyways you want.

when u buy a guard dog they are not puppies, so you wouldnt have to worry about anything like taking care of a dog. they pretty much obey every command...check out mrk9

security cameras and flood lights help out alot, alarms are not the greatest well because the police come when they go off .

that way you can see the people trying to break in and you will be prepared at that point. also dont help to get door jams and better locks.

the best self defense weapon is prevention and being ready. a taser is always good to have on hand and you can always get them at a flea market worse case scenario...i have a million volt one and it took down my 6'3 friend 260 lbs in 2 seconds. the 600k volt one i had took about 5 seconds. but when you hit some one with that taser they are down and wont be able to fight because there whole nervous system is paralyzed for a little bit which will give you plenty of time, handcuffs arent a bad idea either so when hes down and out u can make sure he aint going anywere

Are you talking taser gun or stun gun. Sounds like a stun gun with that voltage.

All that talk about dogs is great, the only thing is dogs only work as long as the crook hasn't given them a piece of chicken dipped in Antifreeze.

Unfortunately I (my dogs) had to find that out the hard way.

My "replacement" dogs (what a terrible term) don't take anything from strangers but that took a lot of professional training and wasn't cheap.

Fortunately I eventually moved to an island where there is no crime, of course I kept my dogs.

Edit:
To some of of you talking about guns for self protection:
It is one thing engaging in "tough talk" on the internet about shooting someone but it is something entirely different having to make a split second decision about actually doing so.

the point of the thread is non-lethal weapons. in california, having a firearm at a grow is a serious legal liability. we're discussing the options.

also... if you trip a silent alarm in my garden, even if you have a firearm... I own the night. Early warning, tight surveilance and night vision are more powerful than real bullets (within reason. if you were to start unloading on me with a 50 cal minigun when employed wisely. If i pop you in the face repeatedly with a pepper ball without warning, I don't care what you are carrying. You're mine... unless you've undergone the kind of training that makes you effective with a firearm after taking a concetrated dose of capsaicin in the face, combined with an impact capable of breaking your nose or taking out an eye.

That is considering you can sneek up on them. you better have some sort of back up plan.

The best thing for you to do in that situation is leave the house. get out of the situation really.

We have lethal weapons on site but are used for hunting. Shotguns and rifles no hand guns. My shotgun would be what I would get if someone broke in. I don't keep the rifles loaded. I guess my question would be if leo considers weapons used for hunting the same as handguns or AK or similar weapons.

A firearm is anything that uses an explosion to propel the projectile--
If there is a Felony being commited in your house, then you are in possession of a firearm during the commission of a Felony--
No Felony...no charge for (legal) guns--:2cents:
