Is our medicinal marijuana helping cartels profit?

Well, I haven't publicly outed the shop since I figure the DEA is listening here... I thought after a bit of time, word would get around, and the shop would respond ... this a new thing at that shop, and the owners don't know a damn thing about medicine and can't tell the difference. So I was just giving them a bit of a wait and see attitude. I'm friendly with the owners of another shop who have decided not to do business with vendors offering meds that was clearly imported.

Because the rampant abuse may lead to a rescinding of the law entirely and the patient loses, not the recreational user who will still buy wherever they can. The patient on the other hand will once again be forbidden to grow their own.

I guess it comes down to being selfish vs compassionate.

Yeah but cities can regulate it just like LA is gonna do and this is exactly OwlMirror's fear, that the abusers have made others so angry that they are gonna be so hard-line in the regulations to insure no abuse.

Actually what bothers me is seeing the Mercedes with Cali plates, and the guys passing out cards advertising their new dispensaries...

So far the idea that the cartels are supplying the Med community here in CO is questionable. I have not seen any evidence to support that claim.

Yeah I don't think the cartels are involved but a few local outdoor med growers might have some extra this time of year that side so they send it this way.

For those of us who support ourselves on $1000 per month and have outrageous medical bills that are not covered by Medicare, we do what we can with what we've got.
Fortunately for those who supply the dispensaries and the dispensaries themselves, there are plenty of healthy individuals who can work and afford their high-priced premium buds.

Unfortunately, patients such as myself are left to fend for ourselves growing as best as we can in a closet or buy what we can afford on our meager incomes.

This is how it would look inside a dispensary:

they can supply insurance...
they can supply security...
they can supply protection...
doesnt have to be meds.....these guys are versatile....dont kid yourself.

Whether they are or they aren't -- some prohibitionists will make the allegation and offer it as a reason to further constrict supply of medical marijuana.

Correct. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that since the DOJ said it will not go after patients and their providers, only go after Drug Cartels that it isn't much of a surprise that the DEA would publish propaganda against dispensaries.

You missed my point.

You said 215 could only be recinded by voters but my point was that's not entirely correct because the gov (city councils, etc) can make hard line ordinances which neuter 215 and you think that voters will vote them out when they do.

I invite you to move to san diego and see if your assumption is correct because here in SD there are many that actually agree with the city council, just like probably in LA.

You seem to think that every voter (or even the majority) wants millions of dispensaries but it's more like the minority then the majority.

maybe in san diego but it's undefined In l.a. I feel and think you would agree bonnie dumass and cooley would best serve their constituency by focusing elsewhere.since you live In san diego you have a vested interest in ensuring that these incumbents and any subsequent politicians state their position on dispensaries,and vote accordingly.

Wow is all I can say. Everybody just all over the place and missing the point. I live next to that 3rd world country. It Fing sucks to see how backward it is around my area now. Where spanish is now the first language. Why do most of the people think that the cartels are ONLY growing outdoor crap weed. Because that is all you hear on the news or from the white house? Yes the cartel want to make the biggest bang for the buck so they do grow a lot of outdoor crap in the national forests or any forest for that matter. True that crap never goes to any medical dispensary. Its goes straight to the streets or get shipped out across the US to fools in the mid-west and east coast. What most people don't know or want to realize is that the cartels have a lot of US born mexicans, which means they are US citizens. The ones that can stay clean on the surface they get good highly respected jobs to help the cartels etc... They are getting smart and they are growing high quality buds. You have no idea how many have big houses that were bought with sub-prime loans that are paid for by their drug activities or the businesses that are fronts for money laundering. It does not stop there either they are involved in everything that will make them money.

What needs to happen at least for California and the other MMJ states is that the laws need to be more clearly written on how a dispensary can get its supply of marijuana. To make sure that you don't have these random people selling marijuana to them. The dispensaries should actually be allowed to grow their own and some how be regulated by the state to keep track of how much is grown and where the money is coming and going to make sure that it is not coming from illegal sources whether its just some US citizen street dealer or mexican cartel.
