Does any one know what these orange flowers are? They are just growing out the middle of the lawn. Are they some kind of buttercup maybe?

I have to say once again, DoobieDuck, you have style and talent. I just love your humming bird shots. If I saw them for sale somewhere, I would buy them to hang on loungeroom wall for sure...BEAUTIFUL....

Some indoor Bramilliads...

Some indoor Bramilliads...

Does any one here love indoor plants(not Canna variety, lol...). But find it hard to keep any alive? My house is pretty gloomy and dark inside. And normal houseplants that would survive for 5+ years die off within 12months+.
I just can't live without them though, so I have tried alot of different varieties from ferns, yucca's, palm's, china dolls and etc...I finally came across these little beauties- 'Bromeliads' or sometimes known as 'Vase Flowers' due to the way you water them. I have heard of them before but assumed as they look so exoctic, they would not tolerate indoor environments.
As long as they are near a bright window, they thrive, well mine have. And now I am infatuated with them. They average around $25-$90 depending on what size and how many are in one pot.
You can get Scarlett Red, Neon Pink, Bright Orange, Yellow that I have seen so far.
But thats just one type of Bromeliad. You can also get these spiky ones that come in more soft pastel kind of colours. Below I have taken some pics of 2 different types that have survived over 12 months besides the occasional cat claw or chew mark.

Great pics Kallen and lil miss grow. I have always liked flowers. But since this thread started, I am now in love with them.
I have managed to sweet talk my hubby into letting me buy 1-2 plants a week. He used to buy flowers for me once a week. But they don't last half aslong as potted ones do. And I am a bit of a sentimentalist, so I have like 500 dried flower bunches all over the house and in vases as pot pouri.

My new plant collecting hobbie officially started yesterday when Shaun surprised me with a stunning 'Wilsonara Kolibri'. They look like tiny lil orchards. I really hope she lasts indoors though. I hope it is ok to post pics in here as my collection gets bigger.

Thanks DD for the rep. Glad to see another 'Bromiliad' fan. And good luck with the pic of the month nomination. You have some amazing skills and talent. I adore humming birds. Bit hypocritical considering I love cats too, lol.

Another photo of my Bromilliad, she is now sprouting lil purple and hot pink flowers of the main flower head/s. The last photo a few posta back was only a week ago. So she is on fire.
