came home today and found pins on my sub....:joint: I will take some pics in the morning they are really small still. I am impressed one week after putting into fruiting.

Hey lord, you can use pf cakes to spawn the tub, you just have to break them up. I use popcorn kernals for spawn. If you have some spent coffee grinds or garbage trim use that, you can also add ashes from your ashtray. I have had good success just using the promix with dead roots, gypsum, and fan leaves.

i know what im going to use all my roots, spent trim and leaves that have been hashed for! i always thought of the mycelium as a whole and never ventured to the breaking up part, kind of scary

Hey Lord, sounds good man, I would add some gypsum also to raise the ph. Im glad your going to spawn to bulk, cakes have such a low yield they are not worth the trouble in my oppinion. I recomend one to three ratio spawn to substrate, do you have colonized cakes already?

you could reuse the spent substrate as soil again to grow your tree!!!
They sell spent substrate as mushroom compost all they do is streilize it with dry heat

Hey Benny Blanco thanks for stopping in and sharing that info. I used my spent substrate to grow a large tobacco plant in my yard this summer it worked great. Heres some amazon pins from today.

Hey lord im stoked to hear you are gonna go for the glory of bulk growing haha. If you have a pressure cooker you should try some grains also, they colonize faster because you can shake the jars up, easier to prep grain jars aswell.

Hey Miss Blunted glad ya stopped by, good to hear you enjoyed the amazons, I will be testing some soon:smoke: Im going to try and clone the fattest shrooms off the first flush, I will take some pics tommorro. Peace.

Hey wusup everyone heres some pictures of my first monotub. Pinset is a bit dissapointing, my humidity has been too low. I am thinking about casing it for the second flush because of the humidity issue.

I got my eye on the big shroom for a clone.

Nice pictures.. Hash do you really use a 1 to 3 spawn to bulk ratio?? That's really high I don't think you gain much more colonization speed then if you were using say a 1 to 4 ratio or even a 1 to 5 ratio.. I usually reccomend a 1 to 8 ratio.. My x-girlfriend she would use a 1 to 10 ratio... She would use 2 quarts of spawn to 20 quarts of substrate... Her monotubs would be fully colonized in 7-10 days.. She did have very good isolates tho.. Anyway I'm not critisizing at all.. I am just trying to hear your opinon/give advise... You could save soo much more spawn to be used on other projects/tubs... While I do think a 1 to 10 ratio is alittle extreme I think it's a good platforrm to start off.. A 1 to 3 ratio in my opinon is just too much spawn.. I really think you could get the same colonization speeds with a 1 to 5 ratio that you can with a 1 to 3 ratio.. Soo what do you think??

Hey towncar thanks mang. I dont use a 1-3 ratio probally more like 1-5 or 1-6. I recomend that to lord because he has never grown shroom before so its like a little bit of insurance, to make sure that the whole project doesnt go down the shitter ya know. I have heard of commercial growers using 1- 100 ratio, lord is fresh so thats why i recomended such a high spawn ratio to ensure success.

Some of the specimens have gotten pretty large, hope the cloning goes as planned.

Ok I get it.. Looking good.. Pretty soon they are gonna drop spores everywhere.. I really hate that.. A long time ago a girl I used to see spent alot of time trying to cross a regular Cube with PE so that the offspring would not produce spores but still grow like regular Cubes.. She was somewhat sucessful, some fruits produced less spores then usual but she never accomplished her goal.. She ended up with alot of weird mutations..

Hey wusup everyone I started harvesting some of the first flush this evening aswell cloned three of the biggest mushrooms, wish me luck as my cloning has failed all but once.

Heres some of the shrooms that where not cloned.

My 105quart monotub is finnished colonizing, and I decided to put a casing layer on it, and will be put into fruiting in a few days.

Here it is right before the casing was put on 50/50 peat and vermiculite with some gypsum.

so johnny hash i assume you'd be able to walk me through and such with any problems, you obviously got it down, heres my first question i never got when i first learned a while back, how do you flush a gigantic rubbermaid like that? an even bigger container? two , cloning, never heard of this, you put a cut shroom under optimal conditions and hope it like, reverse colonizes and then will pin after colonization? three, what are the conditions needed to a tub, my understanding was no airflow allowed while colonizing, which was the meaning for the jar being closed in cakes, and what is the humidity needed and higher is better right? hitting a 98 to 99 with no liquid water right? how would one achieve this? id have to build a cab with next to no airflow to put this in right? im probably going to do a way smaller tub then yours, just so i dont take up a ton of space with a humidity cab, a gigantic tub, and such until i get it down

and lastly do you ever use chunks of mycellium to recolonize a different tub after the first one has been flushed once or twice? or is this what you meant with cloning but with a shroom instead of actual colonized substrate

Hey Lord I am happy to help, shroom growing is so rewarding. You asked how do i flush a tub... I think you mean dunk. I drilled some holes in the bottom corner of the tub, and covered them with duct tape so it can be dunked in its own container, just take the tape off to drain. You will need something to weight the substrate down so it is submerged

The cloning part is pretty crucial if you want maximum yield. Many ways to do this, all i do is under sterile conditions break open the shroom, and scrape some clean tissue out and transfer it to a small jar of popcorn. The mushroom pieces will start growing mycellium, just as spores would except its a single isolated genotype. Once the jar is fully colonized i will perform grain to grain transfers to expand the culture, and eventually spawn it to my bulk substrate.

The monotubs are so great because it provides its own humidity. When the tub is colonizing, it should not be exposed to light, and no need for fresh air exchanges, high co2 levels are good for colonization. You dont need a humidity cab, I think you should do big tubs and just stack them on top of each other, atleast thats what im going to do.

I have never used a piece of substrate to colonize another sub, although i have tried to use spent subs for outdoor mushies. The pests just love the popcorn and mycellium so much they get ravaged. Lord you should join a mushroom site and start reading as much as you can. It can be hard in the beggining... I used to fight with my glovebox. We should go over your plan to make sure you are aware of all the little details, that make the difference between success and failure. Feel free to pm me if you want. Id love to see you pull it off, skip all the crap and get right into some bulk monotubs peace mang.

Hughesy thanks for stopping in, I am not the man in black but he did inspire the name just a bit:rasta:

i already had a plan of attack, and it was, make a cake, and grab a tupperware, fill with peat, add stuff to peat, colonize peat. get shrooms. but im not sure what i want to use for my spawning cake? maybe...... brownrice? all i have, anything else that goes with it?>

lol lord we need to get into more details, what kind of filter do you plan to use for your jars? how are you going to pasturize your substrate? you need to line the bottom of your tub with a black garbage bag. Also the tupperware must be able to breath so it needs holes in it, stuffing them with polyfil is good. Straight peat is too acidic and will invite contamination, you need to add some gypsum too it.
