Shit, lovely cows you have there. My neighbor and myself catch/raise pigs to raise and eat. They're delicious, but I don't think I could do the same with a cow. There's just something about those big adorable eyes that make me melt and hate the idea of slaughtering 'em.

On this thread there has been lots of talk about investing in gold. My question is, if there was an intense economic event would gold be that valuable during the conflict. When people are paniced and starving would gold be worth anything? After the crisis has settled down, I can see gold's value returning. But in the days after some event, wouldn't things like can foods, chocolate, tampons, water, antibiotics be of greater value?

Just some thaughts,

peace

Gold has had value since the dawn of man, its not going to become worthless anytime soon.

But in a truly apocalyptic scenario, I would rather have a larger supply of medicine than gold.

Gold as an investment I can understand.
If you are hording gold to use in a post-apocalyptic world, wouldn't that be like being the Howells on Gilligan's Island. The Howells for some reason carried a fortune in cash with them for a "three hour tour," but on the island their money was worthless.

I guess it's good to have a deversified post-apocalyptic portfolio.

That's a great argument for keeping a stockpile of food and water in a defensible location. Gold would probably remain desirable (compared to paper anyway) during such a catastrophe. It seems to be doing pretty well today in fact.

Gold has spiked way on up to $937/oz. I wouldn't buy any right now. Maybe later, after things have settled down a bit ...

That show ran on a network years ago, and just like anything weird and interesting, it was pulled early.

Golds usefulness in a post-apocalyptic world depends on what condition the economy is in. If the "apocalypse" is light duty, and some shreds of civilization remains, the gold will have value. If on the other hand, 75% to 99% of the worlds population perished, chances are it would have little real value for trading. Currency(Gold) is really only needed in economies where taxes and large tributes are payed.

I remember a survivalists response to the question of preparing for doom, "Two survivors meet to trade, one has gold the other a gun, chances are good that when all is done, one will have both the gold and the gun".

3. Terrorism: Terrorism could visit America again, possibly in the form of a biological attack which could require us to hunker down in our homes for months. A “dirty bomb” may require us to evacuate for an extended period. A chemical attack would be less severe, unless it happened right in our town.

so you wont beleave the goverment on their marijuana propaganda, but you will on terrorism?

thats the REAL loss of your rights going right there, not marijuana laws, since 9/11 youve been losing your rights bit by bit, just like they knew would happen.

I also have some weird metal credit-card looking thing with my name and vital stats the government had sent me...I'm supposed to show it to someone if something really bad happens where they evacuate humans from Earth or some crap. Anyone else have one?
