I am in need of a little advice.

I am in need of a little advice.

Hello DrBudGreengenes

I am in need of a little advice about CFLs and you seem the be the man to go to.

First off I want to say that you where the one to inspire my first grow box design. But it was very small. It was a stealth number built in a rolling tool cabinet. Two tiny 1'x1'x2'ish chambers. And I have only used it once(My very first grow period I have to add), finding a few bugs in the design(And a wonderful growing learning experience). But recently a neighbor threw out one of those high endurance plastic garden sheds - 66"H x 29"W x 15"D. I am going to divide it into 2 Micro SOG chambers. The bottom for keeping some mothers (want to do some experimenting with breeding later on) and cloning, the top for vegging and flowering.

Now the initial idea id to wall off about 5" on one side for the electronics and air circulation and filtration. So each internal box will be about 32"H x24"W x 15"D. This may change as I'm thinking of adding a water reservoir. But it doesn't change my question.

Ok now you know the situation here is my question. I'm pirating whatever parts I can from my first box, and that includes the lights. Now since it was such a small space I used 150W CFLs. 2 for vegetative phase and adding a 3rd for flowering/budding.

Now I'm worried that in the bigger space the light might not be spread out enough. So I was wondering if I should move down to smaller 45W CFLs or, If not, how should I position the 150W to best spread the light? (NOTE - 32"H x24"W x 15"D space - I'll be adding another light = 3 for vegging, 4 for flowering)

Yay!!! My teacher is back!! Glad you are doing well, like the new strains, I'm running a OGKxMendo Purps that is lovely! Can't wait to pick your brain on what happened in my HDSOG cuz all my plants have no sweet spot all of a sudden!!!! I used to flower them at 3-4" and they finished at 15-18" not now though.. I flowered them at 4-5.5" and they are stopping the stretch at 9" WTF!!! Does nutes and Superthrive have anything to do with it?

Hey Thundurkel. Just had some thoughts on this... I might be completely wrong here but.. I saw in your current growthread youre doing some coco and trying out different nutes and stuff.

I never tried coco, or the "Dr. Bud SOG", but would'nt changing medium and
nutrients make the plant react in another way and by that getting a different sweetspot?

For example if you were to grow a tree in soil, you would need a big pot.
But in coco, plants can grow very big in much smaller containers..

Like I said, I don't really know, hope the Dr has some answers.

PS Love your threads

Well see folks the thing is, I had did the coco vs soil test and the coco fucking blew the soil outta the cab!!! lol But see I was trying to keep the DrBud style of not going to the grow shop and I found the Black Gold Waterhold Coco Blend Potting Soil. It felt and looked similar to the Bontanicare Ready Gro Moisture Control that I used in the coco grow. Well come to find out the RG didn't have any peatmoss in it, BGCB is 50-60% peatmoss with coco coir, worm castings and pumice... It holds water FOREVER!! But yea for some reason I couldn't get my girls to stretch and fill out the way they did in my Kellogg Patio Plus soil or the Ready Gro Coco so I'm like WTF!!! I am now back to the PP soil and using Flora Nova nutes like I did in the coco test and things are looking good. I am also buying a bag or some bricks of coco and will be using a just perlite and coco mix with the Lucas Flora Nova formula.... I think what may have happened was the nutes I was using with the Black Gold Coco Blend (Fox Farm Grow Big and Tiger Bloom) were locked out?? I used the same nutes with Patio Plus and had GREAT results with my Maui Wowi Tooty Fruity. I flowered them at 3" and they almost out grew my can and I had to bend the stem till it broke on one of them!!! But I do the same thing with BGCB and the damn things just stay at 3-4" and fill in with bud!!!! Horrible!!! All the other girls (Thunder Goo) are being flowered at 4" and stopping at 8-9" I mean this is half the size I used to get and just ruined my whole system. I finally had it to where I was a week away from having my harvest of 4 plantlet's a week and they fuck up on me.... I had also quit using Superthrive

So what I want to know is was it the soil being TOO much peat moss waterlogging my girls?
Did the Superthrive and high N levels help with that stretch in the first 3 weeks of flower cuz I had also just started using Tiger Bloom from week 1 of 12/12
Now I'm using Flora Nova Grow at 1tsp per gal and 4 drops of Superthrive and the girls seem like they are on the right track so any ideas???

Thunderkel,
I also switched from soil to coco and had poor results with CocoCan, which is a mix of coco washed with soft water and EWC plus perlite. The resulting hybrid mix held too much water because the EWC made the bottom of the bottle a muddy puddle. It's true that you can hardly overwater coco, but with EWC you can because the mix is like wet coffee grounds. I'm in pure coco now and doing better with the improved drainage.

Hey everyone first post! All I can say is WOW I wish I had found this place sooner. Great community with a wealth of information. I just read through all 50 pages; Thanks Dr. Bud and everyone else who contributed! I have decided to mimic your set-up in a pc instead of scrogging. I think i'll wait another week to start my next plant and go perpetual from there.

To the posters above.. I have never done a water cure but I remember reading a thread on it somewhere. The idea is to completely submerge the buds so that most of the undesirable plant matter, chemicals, etc are flushed out while the thc stays intact. After dumping out the water and replacing it for several days the buds will have a much smoother smoke, but some people were claiming taste was diminished too. I believe it also drastically reduced total dry/cure time.

P.S. Glad you're feeling better Dr.Bud!
