Picked up the $30 Hakko from Frys couple days ago... Really like it so far...

Anyone want to suggest a specific type of pipe/bowl shape to vaporize with?

Mainly bought it to vape with...need to pick up a grinder and pipe... current pieces seem to vape too much material ....

Count another vote for this new lighting method. Taste is definitely a noticebable improvement, and I usually use Lava brand butane in refillable lighters. I would gag trying to finish off a bowl's ashes with lighters, so I'd blow them out, but not anymore. One thing though: I got the $30 model in the first post. It works great but you have to hold it on the weed to light it, then hold it on, because weed does stick to the tip if you pull off right away.

if you continuously roll the tip weed won't stick to it.

I might just have to try this Hakko thing, I'm just wondering
if it'd get hot enough to fire up my VaporGenie though.......

anybody try the Hakko w/a Vapor Genie?

if im using a bic i dont let it go the whole time im hitting it, i'll just let the flame touch the pipe or hitter until i hear a sizzle, and then just let it burn itself like a cigarette, and relight if i have too, if its wettish commercial and goes out, so least amt. of lighter juice goes into the lungs. those who hold the flame on the end of a bat or bowl and keep suckin' i would tell them not to do that, lol. dry and cured shit burns well without constant fire to it .. if your gonna use a bic, at least you can minimize the impact of the fumes?

I can't say for sure because to vape it has to be pretty close to the material... so it would have to be pretty close to the ceramic...

Though... I bought a chillum today w/ a deep perfectly cone shaped bowl, and vaping with it seems like it's going to be the best option... just a ran a couple minibowls through it :joint:

also a stand of some type for this is a must, i'm using an old clay triceratops jar thing I made back in middle school art class. It's horns seem to hold it perfectly :p... other than that there's really nothing to complain about... maybe the heavy duty cord...

but...the hits are extremely clean :D might be better than the Genie :p

do you even know how the process soldering works?

The iron what I use to heat cannabis, usually has a solid metal tip that surrounds the ceramic element. The tip is heated by the element. then what ever you want to solder you heat with the tip and then apply solder which contains led.

the actual iron doesn't contain any lead, the tip are actually copper.

Are you a hakko sales rep Mr. Tony?

is a hakko designed to be a lighter? or for soldering? im not convinced of the safety of it. i dont want to inhale any lead

I've never used a soldering iron to light a bowl, but I am a bit of an electronics nerd and am pretty handy with one. There's certainly no lead in a soldering iron tip... even a 25-watt home/hobbyist model has a tip temperature of something like 950 degress F. Lead wouldn't stand a chance. As stated previously, they're usually copper.

The solder itself - sold seperately - is a lead alloy and often comes with a rosin core. It's the solder and rosin fumes you wouldn't want to inhale. The iron's tip itself is nothing more than a really hot piece of metal. Don't use an old tip, though, as solder tends to accumulate on used ones.

Refusing to use a soldering iron to light a bowl because of 'lead fumes' is sorta like refusing to pick up a paint brush because you don't want to get paint all over everything... before it's ever been dipped in the paint.

Yeah i'm a sales rep...

it was deigned to heat a metal tip to melt solder, nothing different than heating cannabis.

Once you unscrew the tip, what's left is the ceramic heating element, which is what all modern vaporizers use nowadays, at least, the ones that give half a crap about customer health. It does produce better smoke, but it's a bit cumbersome trying to make sure you don't burn anything. I haven't had mine for more than a couple months, but I've already burned my arm, curtain, and a small but unnoticable spot on my carpet. I really need to find some kind of holder or build some kind of housing for this. I go back to my refillable lighters when I don't feel like fumbling around with it.
