Anyone Play Poker?

there is seriousssssss money to be made in online poker. most sites aren't rigged...pokerstars is my main site. absolute poker/ultimate bet were the ones with exposed hole card cheating going on. i think full tilt was just bots.

CHEATING IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT AT ALL WHEN PLAYING ONLINE. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD FIREWALL/ANTIVIRUS SO PEOPLE CANT INSTALL VIRUSES ON YOUR COMPUTER AND SPY ON YOUR CARDS...AND U'LL BE FINE.

there are alot of people make alot of regular money at poker. you need to know what you are doing though. and for this reason there is a hugely successful poker schooling buisness of cardrunners.com and deucescracked.com which have training videos made by some of the best players in the world. its worth every penny..ive played about 1 million hands lifetime and am winning at a steady rate. (cash games this is)

there are poker forums out there for free aswell where there are people who can help you learn..

for a beginning player ia ctually wouldnt recommend stars purely because it doesn't have rakeback. fulltilt has alot of tables to choose from ...not asmany as stars, but theres rakeback.

if anybody wants help on getting better n stuff feel free to ask away. post hand histories or whatever you want and ill tell you how i would have played them if anybody cares :D

ive taught a whole bunch of people from scratch how to play poker and within 50hours all of them are consistently making over 20uk pounds per hour multitabling over big reliable sample sizes (anybody can win over the period of a few hundred hands). some have moved up stakes and are making considerably more.

its definately possible especially for those who can just about think logically!

hope ive inspired some of the more entrepreneurial of you to look into it. it can help fund other stuff too ;P

great thread we got going here. I play poker for a living as well as my two other buddys, they play mostley online tho. Me on the other hand i only play big MTT Tournys online and i play at the local card rooms for the cash games i have been playing for a living for 6 months now and its great making steady cash. I get to hang out all day long take care of the plants and bullshit but come night time i got to put on my game face.

I'm no high roller but my online poker winnings have paid for most of my grow gear.

As Mike Caro said, it's a constant battle between your desire to make money and your desire to have fun.

For as long as 90% of the online players like to have fun I'll do moderately well at it. No real skill as such, just patience and a bit of study.

because online poker is awesome. I like the idea of an ICMAG freeroll ... if i make a group online, you all have to join it. We could have a $420 freeroll @ 4:20 every day (twice a day), that'd be so sick

Anyone watching the world series of poker recently? I think they're on episode 17, with only 50 or so people left. Phil Ivey FTW. I wanted Chino Rheem to win it, but i dont even think he's in the top 10...he may even be out i dont even know

Got any poker players on these threads. Been playing professionally for over 20 years, can give advice to the right people interested in a decent income. Texas Holdem my best game.. Haven't worked since 1981.
Have been a winner from the start, had one losing year. Love to here your stories. No bad beat stories please, heard them all. Played almost everwhere, but mostly on-line now. no-limit texas hodem.

i'm not pro player, but i too play poker for couple of years now also mostly on-line. Sometimes at friends place but mostly online:D. I don't make living of it, but money comes and goes ;)

there are 2 places i play online : poker stars and expekt poker :D only NL Hold em, sometimes maybe omaha...

I too enjoy playing online, I play mostly nl holdem and omaha. I would suggest anyone who is thinking about starting to play online should open up a rake back account first. These poker sites give little back to the players.

Bob, what in your opinion is the difference between a player that can make money at it(make a living) and one that finds himself a loser all too often?

First it is difficult to make a "living" at poker, especially in the beginning. The nature of the game is such that the ups & downs are a problem to the beginner.
A "successful" player must possess many talents; patience, discipline & basic knowledge. Math skills are a plus. But back to the question---basic knowledge & discipline are the biggest differences.. Knowledge can be taught but not discipline so much. Very difficult to teach discipline.. Players with much knowledge and little discipline are a sure formula for losing, especially at texas holdem. Omaha has other elements to it.

Hope this was helpful---oldbob
