CNS17 New Coco Formula

D

dongle69

I just was gifted some of the new formula CNS17 Bloom for coco.
I'm gonna slap it around a bit and see how it does.

25ml/gal gives:

n 152
p 33
k 189
mg 38
s 86
ca 152

Compared to Lucas amount of FloraNova Bloom (~8ml/gal):

n 123
p 107
k 179
mg 62
s 62
ca 123

So far I like that it requires less shaking.
Seems about the same cost per gallon of mix as FloraNova (15 cents).
I'm interested in the lower amount of phosphorus.
Seems to make sense for coco.
I have used the original formula in the past and it seemed to perform well.
Anyone using this stuff?

EDIT:
Botanicare has corrected their bottles and here is the new breakdown for the bloom:
n 152
p 66
k 189
mg 38
s 86
ca 152

So apparently just the potassium has been lowered.
See post 63 of this thread...

Nope, but it definitely sparked an interest in me. Pretty cheap for the amount you get, that along with the simplicity... Let us know.

A bit of information from a google:

BLOOM: 2-2-5
GROW: 3-2-4

While CNS17 is very effective in all substrates growers using Coco coir fiber will be particularly impressed. CNS17 is formulated to contain optimum levels of calcium and nitrogen required to offset the high level of potassium that naturally occurs in coco fiber.

CNS17 is the result of new production technology allowing us to create a professional strength one part fertilizer containing all the required nutrients in the correct balance.

CNS17 combines high levels of calcium with sulfates and phosphates to provide a complete spectrum of plant nutrients. Virtually no other commercial hydroponic single part nutrient offers the spectrum of nutrients that are contained in CNS17.

Additionally, when diluted with water, the molecular composition of CNS17 allows the organic structures to hydrolyze providing an energy source for beneficial microbes in solution.

That there is the original formula, now called original hydroponic formula.
Here is the breakdown for the original bloom:

n 152
p 66
k 315
mg 38
s 87
ca 152

They lowered the k in the new formula.
The new stuff is labeled 2-2-3 for bloom and 3-.5-2 for grow.

I had awesome results with the old formula. I had no deficiencies using RO or ph'd tap water. I would like to see how much this new stuff is better.

Good to hear, they seem like a pretty good company. I might try them out someday, but for now I'm hooked on the whole Micro and Bloom scene... Lol.

I burned my plants with it at the suggested amounts and I've been using house and garden since with much better results... I might try it again at some point but I doubt it.

The suggested amounts on the bottle are like 3.0 EC.
That is why you burned your plants.

with the new rate of 30 ml per gallon for CNS17 you are at almost 4X the rate of
FloraNova at 8 ml per gallon.

Do they compare in cost at that rate???

25 ml/gal CNS17 is about the same as 8 ml/gal FloraNova.
Break it down and cost is about 15 cents a gallon of mixed solution for either one.

I used CNS17 for 9 months and had good results. The only thing extra I added was some fulvic acid. I liked the simplicity of the one part solution. Then, for no particular reason, I switched to FloraNova. I've had good results with it as well. Before those two I used Canna Coco for about two years, and that was good, but a bit pricey and I didn't like the fact that the NPK ratios never changed between grow and bloom.

They're all good nutes once you get them dialed in right. :smoke:

dongle69,
How can you tell if the CNS17 is the new or old formula? Is the name or packaging
different?

Yes, It says "Coco and Soil formula" on the label.
Old version has a new label that says "Original hydroponic formula."

Is this an "organic hydroponic" fertilizer?

No. That description is a poor attempt by them to say CNS17 contains carbon/humic acid.
So, if you had beneficial microbes, it could feed them.

EDIT:
Botanicare told me over the phone that CNS17 has humic/fulvic in it, but it doesn't, so I put contact into Suntec, the original producers of CNS17 (they call it Matrix) to find out the real scoop.
Response:
What you speak of is referring to the proprietary polysaccharide solution we use as a binding agent.
The binding agent is a carb which once diluted in water acts as a sugar or food source for microbes.
It's as simple as that.
You must however provide the beneficial microbes...

Anyone have any additive tip? My current game plan is cns17 coco bloom with floralicious plus and sweet leaf. Do you guys think I should add in some type of booster or a pk 13/14 to the mix or that is unnecessary and keep it simple?

So far with cns grow the ladies look better than ever before. Fingers crossed for bloom...

I've used CNS17 since the day it came out and it is my "old reliable" in my grow ops. I actually just picked up a small bottle of the new coco formula to see what its about. Since I have been using coco for several years now with CNS17 original with no problems and great results.

NEVER EVER use cns at the reccommended rates, they want to give your plants radioactive levels of this stuff. Start 1/4 dose and increase, LIKE ANY NUTE.

Nowadays I just buy floranova due to its simplicity and the great results ive been having with it, which are actually comparable to CNS. Both are great nutrients but CNS allows you plenty of room for additives (if thats your deal) since it is only a basic chelated nutrient. I personally run floranova and the canna line.

I just finished up a run where I switched to CNS17 new formula about 1/2 way through.
I know it was not the best time for a switch, but the stuff rocked.
No additives were used, either.
Sooo much easier to shake (quicker, too).
Ph seemed a little more stable.
I'll be running it from the start this time.

Here is a thread of the grow:
