Cozy's Cab of the Future!!

This....is masterful.

You are really pushing the boundaries of what we can do in a small space and for that I am ever so glad.

I'm going to be using your construction photos as the blueprint for my box as I can make 2x4's work here a lot easier than buying a prefab cab.

A few questions:

1. Could you invert the setup for the Veg side and have the electricals and fan on the top? I ask because I'd prefer a vertical camouflage setup for my ducting right off the top of the box and this setup looks ideal for that.

2. Following up, was there any particular wisdom or methode for you putting the utility room on the bottom as opposed to the top? If so, why?

3. I see you used a combination of plywood and MDF-like stuff. IYO, which would be better for the guts of the box?

4. Are your timers, plugs, ballast, etc. in the utility room or are you remotely ballasting everything away from the box itself? If so, can you show your leads so I have a better idea on how to do just that?

5. Finally, following up #4, if you wanted to build a bigger utility/veg space for better and more secure placing of the timers, ballast, etc. how would you go about that? Would a small computer fan be needed to help keep the engine room cool, IYO?

And thank you for bothering to put this up. A safer, stinker ICmag is our goal and you're so helping that along.

Haha, great man! I'm glad you're impressed.

1. Of course, I would have done exactly that but I needed the utility chamber at the bottom of the cab. The reason being that the exhaust duct needed to exit along the floor. Many aspects of this cab where decided by my personal growing situation. Another example of this, among the placement of the utilitiy cabinet, is the overall height - I needed it big enough to handle sativas. NGBs original design is much smaller, you can find at least two threads on his design on the current front page of the micro section...

2. Oh, I see I kind of answered that already, lol.

3. I used mdf where I could because it's cheaper. I used plywood for only one portion, the floor of the veg chamber, for a fiew reasons. First it would be stronger and flex less than the mdf, and second because mdf sucks up water like a sponge. The mdf is 1/4 inch thick and the plywood is 3/8th inch thick.

4. Yeah, it's all in the utility room -- timer, ballast, electrical strip. The leads from those that enter the veg chamber enter at the same spot the air duct goes from the cooltube to the fan.

5. You could make the utility chamber larger by making the veg chamber smaller. If anything, making it bigger will make it easier to manage heat in it. I didn't install any fan to keep the ballast and stuff cooler because it's the middle of winter, but in the summer if it's a concern I'll do something about it.

There is one thing I want to stress -- build your box to meet YOUR needs!

Nice cab Cozy, very futuristic. I've been thinking about doing about the same thing as you, originally was thinking of getting another 150, looks like you have the econlight? Didn't see you mention the temps or humidity in there, hows that fan workin out?
Looks good man, and thanks for all the info.

I think six plants would be optimum, one per square foot. But I'm about to pop 15 unfemanized seeds + one clone, so I really have no idea how many is going to fit, lol. I'm just going to do a sog with as many as I can, but I'd say 5-10 small plants will be in my future soon.

The $20 e-conolight is no more, but they do have a $42 model. Temps are 70-78*F, perfect. Humidity on the other hand is far below perfect. My digi temp/humidity gauge just reads "LOW", lol. The reason being that the cab shares the same closet as the gas furnace.

The fan, it's quieter than a bathroom fan but louder than a pc fan. The air rushing around is just as loud as any though.

Yeah, I'm sure the landlord would be thrilled...

Hey there Cozy your cab looks great. Its nice to see some one from around my area. Around here if you want good bud and do not want to pay a arm and a leg you have to grow your own. I see you figured that out and did a great job with you Rubbermaid, it was pretty ingenious if you ask me. Cant wait to see all you can do with sweet cab you got now.:woohoo:

Thanks for all the support guys!

I got some new genetics about to sprout: Chem Haze x Sour Diesel, and Mazar-I-Sharif.

I was gifted some OG Kush x SD ibl, growing very slow the first two weeks. I'm interested to see how yours start out.

You're right, I'm aware that it's going to need more time than normal to veg. I guess I'll just deal with it.

I've read a couple of threads on those strains. I look forward to seeing how they work for Micro style! Think they will be pretty stinky eh?
