Disposable lighters are the worst thing you can use to smoke, the butane is low quality and the temperature they burn at is too low. Next to that disposable lighters fill up land fills, think of all the plastic lighters covering the earth.

As far as lighters go I think a quality torch style lighter that you can refill with quality butane is a good choice. There are several different grades of butane, the more expensive stuff is cleaner with less impurities.

Another alternative to lighters next to the ceramic soldering iron is something called "Beeline". Beeline is hemp twine dipped in bees wax which after setting fire provides you with a clean flame to smoke with. This can be found on-line search beeline.

That soldering iron looks like it works well I'll have get one perhaps

Wow, I never knew there were so many alternatives.

I have a vaporizer that is broken right now. I much prefer it to bics, but all my money is going to my growing project. I may try to build something homemade though in the meantime.

Has anyone tried hooking a hakko to a temp control and turning it down real low so that a bowl could be vaped while maybe even allowing the ceramic tip to come in contact with the herb?

Idk I use a 25 watt iron and it's the perfect temp for me, just barely touch it and it ignites perfect.

i've yet to use a glass wand even though i make glass. maybe i will try it one day but nothing will ever top solar smoking.

do you have any pictures of your work? Ive always been interested in glass blowing.

Dunno, I always loved my aromazap and it's only like 120 bucks. It has the cleanest high ever though ive never tried a volcano but the zap kicks ass.

I just got my hakko and after my first half-bowl test I am extremely satisfied. Even with the junk I'm smoking a flavor is revealed when butane is out of the picture. And I'm blowner than lighters. I thought that I'd have to take bongerts since my bowl is like 3 inches from my face but the unit is easy to handle and I doubt I'll ever have an accident.

My appreciation for this purchase is sure to multiply when organic warez come my way. I come recommending.

If you go to hakko.com and search ceramic all the ceramic models will come up. I do know there isn't a cordless ceramic model.

Also note the temperature they get to, has to get hot enough to blow back big bongs. I'm not sure exactly what temp that is but the unit the initial poster posted does the trick.

You guys do realise that they sell soldering iros for like $9 @ home improvment stores right? I have two, my $14 is very compact and has a heat dial...lol.

You can also buil a nice volcano quality vape for about $90. You can even add a touchscreen lcd from a house thermostat and still do it for half the price of a norma vape unit....lol.
