a large pitbull (100lbs plus) would probably take a wolf one on one if not win outright. I'm pretty sure once the pit was latched onto the wolfs neck it simply rip it right out like it would do to any other animal. a large pitbull has so much ripping force it is scary. plus a pitbull's temperament when provoked is like a pcp'ed 400lb defensive lineman with cannibalistic tendencies. a wolf really isn't like that.

I think it would depend on the Bulldog and Wolf involved. Paz, What if it were a wolf and a Bulldog mom defending her pups? Seriously ... I think the pups should be left Out of the deal. The scenario was 1 on 1 and should have no contributing factors. Everyone wants to think their dog (whether it be a toy poodle or a wolf) is the toughest ... until the vet bill comes in ... or worse ... as there's only 1 way to find out if your dog is truly game. If an unaccompanied hostile dog approached and I had 1 on the chain I would let it off ... No sense in Hindering its actions.

HeHeHe Nice pup too! Goin Light Barney was undefeated and around 40ish pounds. I believe he took on all comers. I think the main negative side to a Big Bully was you had to feed it more and dog fighting as a sport was popular in the lean years during the Great Depression. Fast, small dogs would win fights out of the larger dog becoming frustrated at not being able to shake the little ball of fury off their face or neck. On that note - I'd never make a friend fight and My animal friends eat better than I ... but then ... I haven't been Really hungry in some time.

Funny thing... While I'm not into ever fighting my dog, or particularly interested in having one that would be able to take on a wild wolf LOL, this thread still sparked an interest for me, and did cause me to do a lil more research on the breed.

I've been looking into, and wanting a new dog for a while now. It's been 3 years now since my childhood dog died at the ripe old age of 22. Yes, 22 LOL. and I feel I'm ready to take on another. I'm really considering getting one now, and putting the time in to bringing him/her up right. In fact I got my first date with a group of lil black/white pit pups next week LOL..

Reading through this thread it's obvious there are a lot here who own and love this breed of dog. If any of you have any tips on training them into descent family type dogs I'm more then interested to hear. dropping some pm's and helping get this possible new owner off to a good start would be appreciated greatly. No doubt this breed seems to require a lot of time, and devotion in socializing ect., and daily burning off of that terrier energy, so any tips on that would be appreciated as well. Activities they like, and one thing I was curios about was if there was any differences between males/females etc. and their personalities, helpful sites on training them, that kinda info...

Sorry if this post is a lil off topic, but I figured this would be as good a place as any to find others who keep the breed.

Obviously the wolf. I don't understand how people can think pits are so vicious. I'm completely loyal to the breed after adopting my first one in 2002. I mean c'mon. How can you not love these dolls?

It wasn't directed at you specifically smoke. I'm more interested in the American pitbull or staffordshire terriers then the bulldogs.

while I figured they are like any other dog, I honestly would of never thought a dog would enjoy hanging from a rope by it's mouth, and swinging for an hour everyday.. I'm interested in those typa activities. What those with these dogs do to help get out that pent up energy daily to keep them happy, fit, and not bored with life. Just by reading through the sites I have, I got the feeling these dogs need a bit more structure, attention, and daily activity then your average golden retriever or mutt. I mean never recommended to carry a breaking stick prior, and never had to worry much about the "gameness" of my dogs breed being a factor.

I also noticed that males for some reason seem to be higher priced, and seem to sell before the females, and was just wondering if there was a reason for this more then people just wanting a male over a female, or because male dogs can service a few females. If it has anything to do with their aggression or "gameness" then it's something I have interest in knowing about, and will factor into my decision.

I wasn't looking to turn this thread into me getting new dog thread, but rather put it out there, and see if others were interested in talking dogs with me in pm, and providing some breed specific tips/info etc. as there seemed to be a lot here who love this breed.

Wolves are Beautful animals but not fighting dogs, It boils down to one thing
PitBulls are Game, Wolves are not.... they would quit in 15 min.... they r bred to survive, pitbulls were bred for the box selectively bred datin back to the bull(hence the name bulldog, "pit" was added later) and bear baitin....one of the most meticulously bred dogs in history... But on a side note, Hav u seen how big a wolfs Cutters are....Maan they r huge.. Made for slicin and dicin huge prey... I dont condone dogfightin, but I know for a fact, Pound for pound...the best Pitbulldogs vs any canine (wild or not) the pit would win hands down..the other dog would quit(usually in a coupla mins with little harm done to it).. Its been proven, do the research its out there...
Beautiful dogs everyone!

Okay, so the Pitbull loses. Wow. I hope this election is easier than this. You guys are obviously crazy to think a game dog would lose to a wolf (pack hunter).

My money would be on the pit-bull, the traditional bred pit-bull, not the fat, stocky ones people breed for. The lean, beautiful pit-bull, the one bred for fighting, not for the "look" of a fighter. Wolves are huge, a bigger target.

all of you who say a pitbulll would win say so just because you have a pitbull and think you are a bad-ass lol... get real now and stop pretending as if you knew anything about wolves... wolves fight 1 on 1, and they would rip apart any dog. the evidence of thousands of years of human experience tells us so... how many shepards have lost their dogs to wolves? open your eyes... my adorable dog almost kills a pitbull, fuck pitbulls lol

Paz ... wow dude ... I didn't expect such specualtion from you ... Whatever ... we are entitled to our opinions right? I don't know you or your dog ... but I'm sure you're the 2 toughest creatures in your mind ... get over yourself and your mutt. I don't own a Pit or other Bully breed at the moment ... so you're half wrong already ... I'd hate to see a post where you lost your friend trying to prove your Ignorant Statement.

Weedman Herb, yup, we are entitled to our opinions... my dog is not a fighting dog, and she is a mutt for sure, beautiful dog :)
that only time she fought with that female pitbull was the only time she was in a fight, a neighbor and I had our dogs without a leash on and well, things got ugly...

Anyway, you sound a bit retarded (no offense) when you say I am trying to come off as a tough guy, it is you who is trying to make a pet look like a vicious killer... Rather, I am trying to make wolves look like the bad asses that they are.

lets see a pitbull run through 3 feet of snow in the artic and jump on prey and tear it apart while it is still breathing

Paz

i tell u what i seen a staffordshire bull terrier(english version) locked on a german shephers face

the owner was shouting at it hitting it- this did nothing
the only way the owners got it off was by throwing hot water on it

im telling u they are some tough little fuckers

i think the advantage they would have over a wolf iz manouverability

and the width of the mouth as far greater than a wolf's
wolves have a pointy face similar to german shepherd

a german shepard is half the size of a wild artic wolf, his mouth although pointy, is bigger than that of a pitbull anyway, the wolves teeth are sharper and stronger too.
not only that, the wolf is used at tearing flesh from live prey, while the pitbull is used to chewing dog-chow or at best some cooked meat.
wild wolves have to fight 1 on 1 to establish themselves in high ranks within their social order, pitbulls are cared after by men.
