How do commercial growers dry?

i just finished drying to abusive OG KUSH and it has almost no smell at all. I'm starting to jar them now and burping once a day.. although a friend of mine smelled a sample and said it has some good smell maybe im too use to it?

ussually alot of commercial growers are just in it for the money just because they are doing commercial doesn't mean they really know what they are doing. Drying commercially also takes skills if u want to dry it right and it will skip maybe a few days when dry correctly. Some commercial guys just throw a dehumidifier in there on high and it will dry everything in 3 days which is bad. There are still some commercial growers out there that has a art of drying buds correctly without taking too long as a normal dry.

Drying commercially: Use a large sealed room, with carbon filter in the top corner, have rows and rows of string.

Rip off all the big fan leaves, bag them up and remove from the room.

Hang whole plants, leaving a bit of space between each plant.

Have fresh air intake and an oscillating fan on low sweeping the air underneath the plants.

It takes about 5-7 days to dry, depending on the ambient temperature and humidity.

When dry enough to cure, trim off all the leaves (Big, Boring, Eye-straining job!!)

For curing, take large cardboard boxes lined with poly sheet, put plants inside when dry to stem 'snap!' until boxes nearly full.

Cure as normal - open twice a day, and shake around a bit to release moisture.

After a week or two, bag and take to market.

Job done!

I trim everything first, then lay out on screens. I used screens cause I had alot of popcorn. Its also a PITA to trim everything on the plant. We find it easier to cut off most of the side shoots and work on them individually. So the screens are better for us.

I throw my buds on the screen and try to keep the room at 50%. 3-4 days they are good to go and my customer is very satisfied.

As British Bulldog says, chop plant at base, hang upside down, if you have time, take the fan leaves, [remove from room as described...] leaving oscillators and extractors on. DO NOT LAY THEM ON ANYTHING ... they sag and dry into triangle shaped sad things and this squashes all the trim leaf into the bud making it 100x harder to trim. If you do not trim these off before packing, the bud tastes inferior. All my personal stays untrimmed until smoking, it is easier to do when you need it and the leaves protect the bud in the meantime.

Commercial or personal, do not mess the plant around, the aromatic terpenes are broken easily and only release their scented oils only once........

Of many crops between friends I noticed our best effort was dried in 4 days flat, using mild heating and usual ventilation, plants that hang around for weeks can get a musty composty smell. One commercial grower I know sucks them dry with a air conditioning unit in 24h, after a week to relax, they are fine and show no real ill effects....heresy maybe, but it works fine.

For years I never flushed, used any Booster and only basically bagged bud for 3 days after a 5 day dry, to check it was properly dry and every time the resulting product would have happily graced any coffeeshop.

Almost all of the weed my growshop owning friend sees in the UK is immature, harvested young, the ultimate potency comes in the last week along with the real stinky smells, if you do not mistreat it or let it compost damp in a bag or jar the weed should always smell as good as the genetics used allow.

why leave the leaves on there? Why not trim everything, dry and bag?

As far as smushing the bud, thats not a big issue. Plus when its vacuum packed, it all gets smushed some.

Time considerations often dictate this, outdoor crops, sheer volume of plants, indoor crops, I was always busy getting the next crop in ....

trimming dry is quicker and easier IMHO, it is a chore either way.

smushing is an issue, your terpenes will terp off and you will damage your lovely bud, degrading the THC. If you use barrier bags you do not need to vacuum them.

Ok, two reasons Yamaha:

1) as Chaos says, time restrictions - the first phase is to get them chopped and remove the fan leaves, then get the next plants in the flowering room.

2) trimming everything wet means the bud dries out faster and can damage quality - it's better for a slightly slower dry

Curing is a waste of time for mersh, unless you're in a super buyer's market. As for drying, hack it at the base, hang it upside down about a week, maybe ten days. Then pluck it, trim it, and bag it. If it gets too dry at any point, just rehydrate it with some wet paper towels or slices of fruit inside the ziplocks for a few days.

I am by no means a commercial grower but for outdoor growers I have to agree with Yamaha. Trying to bring the whole plant home or wherever to dry just does not work.

Trim everything in the bush because for one all the small leaves are fresh and full of water and stick out making it easier to trim them in my opinion then if it is hung to dry but the biggest reason is transportation. Trimmed buds are easier to transport than a cut up tree.

Indoor growers I am sure it is a much different story

PEACE.

I hung them once, but last two I've trimmed them completely as soon as I took them down, laid them in single layers in boxes or on paper towels, and once they're dry enough (3-5 days depending on the season in a hot and humid area like mine) they go into bags and into the fridge.

what about hanging them in the flowering room? I just dont have a lot of choice. The smell is an issue and I cant afford another carbon filter and fan for another room. Is the light really that big of an issue?

Peace/Love/Joy

So I really want to take out the best aroma out of my plants, right now the one that is ahead of the others leaves a strong herbal stench on my fingers when I touch it (otherwise it has a very weak smell). I hope I can preserve that aroma.

I don't how many products out their their are.But this is the only fox-farm product i have tried. When a plant is getting ready to finish, its usually sticky,or an average nothing special plant.

This stuff makes the plant produce oils,i used it on some resinous space queens.Instead of being sticky ,it was oily greasy.Made some really oderiferous smoke.

Also works very well for bringing out smell / flavor on average/nothing special plants.Gotta find the exact trial and error amount ,but i now can't imagine not having it aound.1 jar could last your lifetime ,unless your outdoors i guess...I think its mainly a large dose of postassium....:2cents:

I wouldn't - Light degrades thc - I can only imagine HID does even faster.

I'm not commercial really, but I like to use dry nets made from the homebox company. they are convenient and allow me to dry 6 levels in a 40"x40" space.

I prefer to trim wet immediately as trimming bone dry bud is a nightmare.
