I wish they would make a movie about Jon Krakauer's (same person who authored into the wild) book Into Thin Air.

I watched it last night

My thoughts..............
I liked it, it was a great movie, once you get used to the jumping timeline. I have often thought of packing it in, and moving into the wild, well before this movie, so I guess this showed me what went wrong

I do have some qs though.

SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT

1. Why not fashion some sort of raft to get across river
2. Why was he picking berries and the such at night?
3. Why go all the way to Mexico, if your plan is to get to Alaska

I watched it. I didnt plan on it....but after the link was supplied up top I went ahead and got myself wrapped up in the movie.
I liked the film....even tho I cant stand Sean penn....and there was some great footage of AK.
But as for my opine on 'supertramp'....he is still an idiot.
If he would have had a map....he would have known there was a rope bridge 6 miles up the river from where he initially crossed.

And the bear....im not sure I believe that part. I think that was hollywood pokin its ugly head in.

....but after re-reading my post....I thought....if he had survived....this movie never would have come out...nor would people have known his story.

I've heard a lot of people call the kid an idiot for going out in the wilderness "unprepared". What happened to him is exactly what would happen to just about anyone out there--its a good lesson that heading "into the wild" for 100 days will probably kill you. The unforeseen is what gets you, not what you prepared for. If you have or can (not THINK you can) make it in the wild like he did for that long, you are unique--most people would be dead in days.

When you are completely overwhelmed by the nastiness and destruction that goes on around you in the human world, you don't give place as much value on your own life in the first place (some would say its the first step to removing the ego). The point was to live life, and he did it well.

1. he was really sick and the river was flooded quite a bit, probably more so than they showed in the movie. very treacherous, he thought that since he had been there so long he would be fine to stay a bit longer.
2. no idea... i don't remember that part in the movie or any mention of it in the book. probably just bored or it was during the time when there's not much daylight, so he had no choice
3. alaska was his ultimate goal, but I think he thought mexico would be a good way to test his skills, plus he admits in the book that he loves the desert. it didn't go into detail in the movie, but in the book he canoed down the colorado river and ended up in a canal system in mexico and had a hard time getting back to the ocean.

as a side note, did anyone else get the vibe that after alaska he planned to return home? it's just too weird how he didn't head there right away and how it was going to be his greatest journey.
