al jazeera has just as biased reporting as the BBC, but its less biased than most american news sources.

all media is biased in some way, there are no exceptions. (dunno abt you, i was taught that at school)

but of course their bias conficts with fox news, which most americans seem to take as gospel, so it must be super-biased.

i assume you have never read al-jazeera's website & have never seen any of their tv news either, so here's a link for you - http://english.aljazeera.net/HomePage

The world seems to resent the leadership Bush has provided as do I. Wouldn't it be better if America didn't have a large military at all? Don't you wish we would end our free trade policies?

I would think us getting out of world affairs and minding our own business would be welcome. Why shouldn't we choose to take our navy and go home?

What would make you happy? BOG

:D very nice discussion about things that we cant change:D

We have always had competition but I have never been for free trade. America uses this as an excuse to involve itself in world affairs. Our gov't sees taking mid east oil as a real alternative.

Why don't we stop free trade right now? Why do we need it really? I feel that it threatens union labor if competition in the free trade market is unfair. Civilized countries have labor laws and try to allow good wages to support a middle class.

The skilled trades are examples of how workers became middleclass at one time in America.

Both the conservatives and the liberals have been for this idea of free trade but it isn't free and in any even America lost the trade war already. Do you wish to keep supporting the trade deficits with America forever? We will never match imports with our exports so its time for America to cut its losses and it will hurt.

Any capitalist country needs exports eventually to get rid of its surplus production capacity that is always built. For America to lose its role in the world will make our economy far smaller and our world power far less. I like that idea.

Europe can take the lead in world affairs as we go bankrupt and isolate ourselves. We can't do anything about it. This outcome is inevitable so what I want is irrelevant. Kiss America as leader goodbye and forget selling to our markets on any terms but our own. The tide is turning in America and people finally see the truth.

We already lost the trade war. BOG

bog: i dont even know where to begin attacking your crazy economic theory.

free trade, should be just that, free, worldwide, no import tarifs or other import restrictions, no unfair subsidies, etc

why on earth do you want to choose to go bankrupt & isolate yourself?

labor laws dont create high wages, the market does.

why do you like the idea of american economic collapse?

and the inevitable worldwide economic meltdown that would follow.

please explain

as my mum would say, you want to cut off your nose to spite your face.

either that or you dont have any clue at all about economics & should stop talking before you make yourself look even more stupid.

Stupid?

Stupid?

Don't stoop to insults but you come up with a plan. You resent our leadership and I don't wish to lead.

Free Trade? That's a joke when the UK has a 25% tariff on anything of value I ship there.

I have never thought a country wasn't in control of who and how it trades. We have already over-extended to the point of bankrupcy and now we must retreat from our position of leader.

Why should you people over there need America to tell you what to do or how to run your side of the planet?

I mean what would you like for america to do? Take over the world or leave you alone?

I prefer the latter but Bush and his friends would rather team up with Blair and take in the world. I am just for peace and retaining the value of our own markets and having good jobs for americans.

We can have peace if we return to our conservative forefathers admonitions to avoid foriegn entanglements. Our retreat is your gain and my wishes are not so bad. America has every right to control trade as does every country. BOG

On this tenth anniversary of the Rawandan genocide I was reading an article regarding some of the possible reasons why the US didn't intervene. The comment I had a the end was, "What about all the other Western Nations why didn't THEY do something?" Then again why didn't Europe intervene in Kosovo? They waited till the US took the lead there, then fell in behind the UN. Citizens of those western Nations are quick to find fault with US policies and actions. At least we try, instead of wringing our Chamberlin/Quisling hands.

Not everything the US has done in it's foriegn policy has been right or had a good outcome. But if you want to bring up past and present mistakes, England, France, and Germany have a few hundred years of atonement to make up for. The question I have for critics of the US is "what would your country do? And of they felt so right about what they would do, why wait for the US to lead?. Oh, I know, we bullied them, bullshit , then you're saying your countries are weaklings. They let us do the work and be the fall guy if it goes wrong. Thats the reason plain and simple. Heavan forbid the French get caught in another Algeria or the Brits face another Gallipolli.

Armchair analysts crack me up, I bet most of the folks here and on OG dont remember rotary dial telephones or black and white tv. So most of the history they have gotten is from sound bites from CNN, BBC, Al-Jeasera, etc. I doubt if many have read contrary views in mainstream peroidicals, Sounds like lots of parrotting to me . Although I may not agree with all that BOG has said his opinion is well formed and shows an understanding of the outcome of what he says.

I say "lead, follow, or get the fuck out of the way".

Anyway the economy we all need to look out for is the Chinese. Thier demand for commodities to supply the West's insatiable demand for cheap products, has driven up the cost of steel, oil, etc., to the point where it will be inflationary. Just wait till they really start importing food, can you say 4 billion people. Just wait and see when they realize they can afford to import all the food they need to stave off another famine. might be a good time to get into commodities futures. Do a little research on what commodities China imports, and from whom, and what they export. Never mind the international tariffs on these commodities, thier price is dictated by the Chinese. The US is the breadbasket of the world and we will sell to the highest bidder even though it hurts us too. Thats not just capitalism working but supply and demand. That affects socialist economies also.

The Herbal Gerbil
I believe it was the Art of War that stated " The best way to destroy a superior enemy is from within ". America is being drawn into a guerilla fight it cant hope to win with it's rigid techno army. Both at home and on it's own soil. They will continue picking thier fights and running away while the US becomes beleagured with it's inability to fight an effective defense against an invisible enemy. Kidnap and fear will continue to keep the other allied countries from helping by keeping them hopping around keeping their domestic populous happy. The outcome will probably be a stalemate which goes on for years or America will simply get bored and do something drastic, probably robbing more of our civil rights and cash to finance and secure their futures in power while at it. And best of all Europe will continue to wander round as silent partner nodding everytime bush pats us on the head. The UN will be silently fighting off some useless distraction so it can let america carry most of the shite then jump in to prop them up later while they are still strong.

Or maybe we will all wake up tomorrow and realise that it's not good all this fighting lark and bush will phone round wishing everybody a peaceful end to the conflict, Pigs will grow wings and i'll win the lottery in a 5 countries.

Which do you think kills more? Religion or politics?

I'm not a political or religious man but for what it's worth that's my guess at the future. . . . . . . . . . .

Unfortunatly the people of the US are in the grips of a political dynasty which makes the Kennedy's, Roosvelts, and Rockefeler's look like school boys. Get the background on this family called Bush and you'd be amazed what they have done.

We need all the help we can get to oust this family, OPEC has started by jacking up the price of oil. Americans associate our financial well being with the President. The Chinese are forcing commodity prices up. Interest rates and inflation will increase, pushing the middle class further into the poor house. European leaders are trying to isolate themselfs from Bush now that his true colors are out. More and more Ameriricans are ashamed at what he did to our international standing. Everything which the western world used to like about us has been adulterated. When Kennedy was president, we spent alot more of our money as a percentage of GDP on foriegn aid. We had lots of friends then. Not because of money, because to what that money was spent on. And please don't confuse our financial backing of bad govts. in those days with our efforts to help third world nations. We had a butter and guns policy. The butter was good, the guns very debatable.

We can only hope that this guy gets trounced in Nov. and resets our mandate.

He should have focused on Al-Queda and left Iraq to the Arabs. Since they do nothing to involve themselves in other Arab nation politics, it would have been up to the western world to confont that problem, He should have let the Euros have first whack at him, but they wring there hands for too long while people suffer. A better plan was needed, unfourtunatley Bush was president when that plan was needed. Colin Powell would have resolved this issue if given a chance but Bush wanted to play crusader.

This time around there wont be a Florida to start a new snowball lets enjoy today and look forward to tommorrow because my friends better things are on our horizon

Good points Closet King and friendlyfriend

Bush and Blair did screw up when they pushed to invade iraq. We lost our coalition and diverted from the real war on terror to the Bush and Cheney Oil Land agenda. They wanted any excuse to invade iraq and now we clearly have another losing battle to try and change Iraq. Old age thinking as anyone who studies history knows you cant occupy for long without the majority of the locals on your side. We blew it.

The sad fact is Al Qaeda is playing everyone for fools by getting America isolated with Israel in the world. This is just the reason why others should take over the real actions needed against our common enemies. If America pulls out of Iraq and stops sending arms and money to Israel it would help the tensions a lot. With Kerry as president hopefully it won't be too late to undo the damage the 2 imperialistic powers have caused. UK and America share the fault for being greedy and wanting control of Iraqi oil.

That is the only reason other than a position to take the Saudi oil next if Bush stays in office another 4 years. The neocons have gone off their rockers for sure and they have blood in their eyes so beware the savage war mongers who preach killing and hate. Use your heart and vote with a mind when you replace the criminal we call president. BJ's are nothing anyone should have to tell about but Bush won't testify without Cheney holding his hand. BOG

Bush has a lot to hide.
