HonkyTonk said:I was under the impression that the terpenes Citral, Geranial, Neral, Lemonal are responsible for lemony smell in cannabis and not limonene that was mentioned in some post before this.
I believe these do exist in such strains, along with limonene. Granted these are present in some strains all alone, simply none, or in mixed proportions and this would account for variations in aromas & taste in different strains that are similiar yet different. In my mind this also accounts for variations in the effects from smoking them along with the variations in levels of THC, CBD, CBN, and various other contributors. Much like a lime, lemon, orange, & grapefruit all smell similiar in a familiar "citrus" way but yet are so different. One thing is for sure, there is alot of important research to be done on Terpenes & Terpenoids in various strains along with the effects they contribute to the overall experience.
This is what wikipedia has to say..............
Limonene takes its name from the lemon, as the rind of the lemon, like other citrus fruits, contains considerable amounts of this compound, which contributes to their smell.
