Vertical Trees (Critical Kush) 1000w

Thanks lead, really appreciate it. As far as the temp outside the tent, I have no idea. Can't be a huge difference, though.

Day 29:

Another feeding of grow big. This time I dropped an extra 1/8 tbsp to slowly introduce them to more. They seemed to really love the nutes, because they exploded with growth. My tent is actually really looking like a jungle. Wondering how much longer I should veg for.

Thanks for the update.........if yo wanted them to stretch a little more I would take off some bottom nodes not getting much light then wait a week see what they look like.... your doing great with that tent make me wanna buy one more and more:ying: loving the show

Thanks for your input guys.

Day 31:

Another watering down. It's only day 31 and they're really starting to get crowded. I'd say the biggest one is around 2 feet. I doubt I'll let them go for too much longer. I'm going to have to keep a mother plant but I don't know how to even start picking. I know that the tallest have to be on the sativa side, besides that, I'm pretty lost. Thoughts and opinions?

Don't worry about how full the plant is. You can trimm out the small stuff to thin it when you place it into flower. This way you can save the biggest stems to flower with.

To judge how tall you want the plant when you place it into flower you need to know how much it will stretch in flower. With a 1000 watt bulb I shoot for a finish canopy of 4-4.5 feet tall when placed about 24-30 inches from the bulb center. This distance from the bulb center will allow you to stretch towards the light some. The 4-4.5 feet will allow you to keep the plant with in 36 inches of the light at it's maximum distance. Keep in mind that the best buds at the top of the plant will lean over the top of the bulb and get the light coming up from the bulb so they will be closer than the 36 inch maximum. Even at 36 inches you are at the maximum you should get from a 1000 watt bulb and stretching towards the bulb will only bring them closer to the best bulb position.

Don't worry so much about the bottom branches as these are usually the weaker producers. The lower branches will also lean into the light as well.

If you can try to get the bulb pointed up with the base down toward the floor. You will get more light to the top of the plant. The base of the bulb will shade the light going down. So it only makes sense to point the bulb base to the bottom where the growth is the weakest.

Don't worry so much how tall the plants are as to how well the canopy has developed. A well developed canopy will produce better than a full conopy. By this I mean stems that are thick and not thin and spindally. What you should strive for is good developed stems. Cut out the small stuff. This is the lower branches that I mentioned above and the smaller stems in the center of the plant. If you have room after stretch you have lost potential to develop the thicker stems that will benefit you the most.

The plants do look healthy though.

Tons of great information, crane. I will try taking out the weak fragile stuff at the bottom. I will most likely move them to the flower tent within 2 weeks which leaves me time to LST them.
I appreciate your opinion.

I will try taking out the weak fragile stuff at the bottom.

Keep in mind that even though you took the bottom stems you can still fill the lower part of the plant with the bigger stems from above. I find that the top of the plant will get crowded with many good stems that will under produce if not thinned.

To thin these I bend the upper branches down to fill in the lower area . To do this you need something to attach the branch to and something to secure it with. Eithersome thing like Marlos screens or some kind of stakes.

If these branches are to stiff to bend you can twist the stem till it snaps internally. This will allow you to bend it with out breaking the branch completely off. You may need to do this several times to get a full curve to form the way you want it to. It is best to grab the branch with your thumbs on two nodes that are adjacent to each other. This way you do not slip and tear the outer layer. Move up and down the branch this way twisting the branch to get your curve.

If you do tear the outer layer tie the branch in place any way as it may still survive. When this happens I leave another branch near by to fill in the spot in case the torn branch does not survive. With in a day or two the torn branch will wilt if it is going to die. At that point you can place the reserved branch in it's place. If it does survive just cut off the reserved branch and all is good.

Day 35:

Just got done giving them water only. I plan to move them to the flowering tent very soon. A couple of them are about 1 feet tall where as some are well over 2 feet tall. They are getting overcrowded and they might start getting squished. I need to start buying soil for the 5 gallon pots and buy an inline fan because the flowering tent is too big for a passive system. Very soon I'll switch tents but I'll keep with the vegetating cycle because I don't want to over stress with the transplanting and light cycle change. That's my plans so far. Here's some pics.

Day 40: Been busy lately. I haven't had the time I'd like to work on all 9. I have potentially chose my keeper. She's a lot different than the rest. More bushy, darker tone of green, with a nice healthy thick stem. Anyone know the different phenotype's of critical kush? And the pics.

Day 55:

Been a while since I last posted an update. Had lots going on the last month. Anyway, I'm long overdo on the switch. I transplanted 8 of the 9 females. I am keeping my mother alive with around 200w of cfls. I moved 8 of the 9 from the 4x4 to the 6.5x6.5. I left the 1000w on all day so the criticals can recover from the transplants. I set the timer tonight so lights will go on at 7pm and turn off at 7am. Since the light has been on all day, 7am will start the day 1 of flower. And the pics.

Day 1 of 12/12:

Wow it's hot in the bay area right now. Going to be in the 90s for the next three days. Good thing I chose to run the lights at night time. Even then I'm fighting the heat. The countdown begins, I'll be chopping within the next 70 days. Today is also the first day of feeding with big bloom. And the pics.

bushing up nice mate

Day 7:*

They are starting to get huge. I will start tying up a lot of branches because most are already too big and too heavy. Already am seeing bud sites but nothing to get excited about.
And some pics.

great looking plants i have just started some critical kush myself i may flower sooner as they seem too stretch a lot...

Thanks, I highly advice that you flower sooner. Mine are monsters indoors. My tent stands at 6.5 feet and 2 of them are already bending colas on the top of the tent. Just goes to show it helps to plan ahead.

Day 23 of 12/12:

Been a while since an update, been busy. The criticals are huge. I didn't expect them to get this big. I tried solving the stretch problem with tying the plants away from the bulb and bending the top colas over the bulb. They are all showing bud sites. One is beyond that stage and is looking real nice. Anyway here are the pics.
