interesting thread. ive seen threads in the past with people using batteries, coiled copper wire & a nail(iirc) to make mag fields in grows, but was never convinced. as for throwing some magnets in your substrate/pots is a new one on me, but interesting none the less. G'luck

plenty of stuff on the web on the issue: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&sugexp=les%3B&gs_nf=3&cp=51&gs_id=48&xhr=t&q=using+magnetic+fields+growing+plants+google+scholar&pf=p&tbo=d&rlz=1R2GGIT_en-GB&biw=1280&bih=577&sclient=psy-ab&oq=using+magnetic+fields+growing+plants+google+scholar&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=d5e665ec2b788175&bpcl=38625945

PT Barnum is correct, there really is a sucker born every minute. Magnets.....get a life. A little horticultural knowledge would go a long way here. Stoners are an easy targets for scamers.

Nowadays, many written scientific works of biologists and biophysics describe the effect of magnetic fields on plants. Based on these works, "Magnetic Technologies" company came up with a method of magneto-hydro dynamical activization of natural waters and devices used for this method. This method is an essential part in the whole complex of using magnetic fields in agriculture. It includes physical- chemical changes of natural water parameters, resulting in improvement of filtration properties and in an increase of dissolving properties of water. These changes result in an increased ability of soil to get rid of salts and results in a better assimilation of nutrients and fertilizer in plants during the vegetation period.

It is known that plants and trees need mineral salts and microelements from the soil to function and photosynthesize properly. However, plants do not use the majority of nutrients that are in soil. While watering plants with normal water, only a small amount of nutritional elements dissolves in the soil and becomes available to the plants. Further consumption of these nutrients from the soil is very rare when plants start to grow and a larger amount of nutrients is required, the deficit of microelements results in low numbers of crop. The deficit of microelements/nutrients in the soil is the main reason for a decreased growth rate and low crop. That is the reason to why magnetic water should be used for irrigation.

In addition, when the plant is watered using hard and non- magnetized water, white coating is formed on the surface of the soil: that is calcium bicarbonate and carbonate. Some of calcium bicarbonate is washed away by water penetrating soil and depositing on the roots of plants. The plant, then, starts to suffocate because of these depositions and in order to continue to feed, forms additional roots. This process results in a decrease of normal growth in plants.

However, plants that are irrigated using water that is treated by "Magnetic Technologies" company, easily take in mineral salts from the soil and no sediment is formed on the soil surface. Also if mineral and organic fertilizers are used, they dissolve better which results in their need for use the decrease by 50% and at the same time, plants still continue to develop without any extra effort. This results in an increased crop production and in an increased quality of agricultural products.

In short, the economic advantage of using magnetic water for irrigating the crops looks like this:

Advantages

Vegetation period decreases by 15-20 days, therefore the crops ripe 15-20 days earlier than normally.
Crop production increases from 15-20% to 100%, and in some cases, even more.
Plant disease rates drastically decrease.
Taste of agricultural products improves.
Approximately 30% less water is used for irrigation
Therefore 30% less energy is used in water pipes.
Sea water (salty water) can be used for watering (from 6-8 thousand PPM inclusive) and for some cultures, very salty water can be used (from 15 thousand inclusive).
By magnetizing seeds before sowing and by irrigating them with magnetic water, the need for crop material decreases by min. 30%.
Average of 30% decrease in fertilizer consumption.
Active soil desalination takes place, increasing crop production year after year.
Expenses

Expenses that occur during the installment of magnetic systems for 1 hectare of land come up to approximately 500$US. In addition, our magnetic devices do not need technical maintenance and do not require electrical energy. Life of our devices is min. 15 years. If we divide 500$US by 15 years, our expenses will be 33 $US/year. Compare advantages with expenses and draw your own conclusions!

Below, we included reports of various organizations, which use our technology and our devices. These experiments were carried out in different parts of the world, in different climates and on different soil; that gives us the right to say that using magnetic technologies has no limits and limitations when it comes to various conditions and situations.
As we see, the mentioned above results show that using magnetic water can only be an advantage.

Conditions of experiments

All of the experiments were carried out using the same method. That is a land area was chosen and divided into two equal parts. One part was used as a control and was watered using normal water. The second half had magnetic devices installed. After that, same kinds of seeds were planted in both areas at the same time.
The following changes were recorded:

In plants
Speed of crops' standing.
Percentage of crops standing.
Development of root system.
Difference in green mass.
Development of first flowers.
Development of first fruits.
Quantity of fruits.
Time of collecting the harvest.
Difference in quantity and quality of harvest.
In soil
Amount of salts at different depth of the soil (0-1.5m) before the irrigation process.
Amount of salt in soil while watering with normal and magnetic waters.
Density of water that has flown through the soil.
Speed of filtration in the beginning and at the end.
Washing away of salts while irrigating soil with water.
Washing out of various anions from the soil.

Now for those following this thread imo i can not say that placing magnets in the mediums actually work or not work ??? i do notice a difference in size of plants being that magnets were placed in different pole positions.
I may have went about this all wrong instead of placing magnets in soil i should of went with possible with magnetic water source instead. but out of the 4 plants in this experiment 2 of them are by far much more larger then the others tri fold
in same light and room conditions.

If any of this were true , it would have been exploited decades ago , all glasshouses would use them.

Passing water through a permanent magnet does nothing but make money for people who are happy to promote a pack of lies.

The Earth could be about to turn upside down. The planet's magnetic field is showing signs of wanting to make a gigantic somersault, so that magnetic north heads towards Antarctica, and magnetic south goes north. Compasses will point the wrong way, and migrating birds, fish and turtles are going to be very confused.

Just when this will happen, how long it will take and what the consequences will be, is difficult to fathom. What is not in doubt, though, is that it will happen. About every half a million years or so, the Earth's magnetic field flips upside down.

The story begins in 1600, when Sir William Gilbert, physician to Queen Elizabeth I, suggested that the Earth was a giant magnet. At the magnetic poles, a compass needle would stand up and point straight down into the Earth. And he was right, up to a point. The magnetic poles are where all the lines of force of Earth's magnetic field are drawn together. It does not coincide with the geographic poles, the axis on which the Earth spins, but it is close.

Yet the Earth is not a solid magnet. For one thing, its magnetic poles are constantly drifting around. At present, magnetic north is heading out of Canadian territory into the Arctic Ocean at about 10 miles per year. Also, a bar magnet quickly loses its power, yet the Earth's magnetic field has been around for billions of years, so something is regenerating it. This is why Einstein remarked that the origin of the Earth's magnetic field was one of the greatest mysteries of physics.

Today, we think that magnetic power comes from the Earth's hot outer shell of molten iron sloshing around a solid inner core. As this subterranean ocean of liquid metal slowly whirls around, it behaves like a dynamo generating electrical currents and magnetic fields. Just like the flickering light on a bicycle powered by a dynamo, the Earth's currents are a little erratic, and so the magnetic field at the surface of the Earth fluctuates. We know the magnetic polarity goes topsy-turvy from rocks on the bed of the Atlantic Ocean.

Along the middle of the Atlantic runs a gigantic crack from which lava oozes. As the lava solidifies into rock, it records the Earth's magnetic polarity at the time. These records show that we are due for another flip about now. But the Earth does not keep a regular rhythm, so no one could make a prediction based on past performance alone. There is, however, more convincing proof that we are heading for a tumble. Each time the magnetic field heads for a reversal, it grows weaker over several thousand years until it almost disappears. Then it switches and starts up again with renewed vigour.

Magnetism trapped in ancient pottery shows that over the past 4,000 years, the magnetic field has weakened by more than 50%. This past century, the strength has dropped by 5%. At this rate, the field might disappear in the next few hundred or thousand years. Another warning sign of an imminent flip has come recently from satellite measurements of the Earth's magnetic field.

A team led by Gauthier Hulot, of the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, has spotted patches of reversed magnetism concentrated in two places just underneath the Earth's outer mantle. In the largest patch, beneath the southern tip of Africa, the magnetic field is pointing towards the centre of the Earth, instead of outwards. The other patch is near the north pole.

Some experts have stuck their necks out to predict that we can expect the next reversal some time in the next 2,000 years. The process would probably then take anything between 100 and a few thousand years - not even a blink in the history of Earth. We can only guess what life would be like during that reversal. Anyone trying to navigate with a magnetic compass is going to have a tough time, but what is going to happen to all those birds, fish and other animals that migrate vast distances using their own internal magnetic compass? Will they have time to re-draw their magnetic maps and get new bearings?

Even more creatures such as bees and some bacteria use a sense of magnetism for finding their way around their local territories, for a north/south or up/down axis. The Earth's magnetic field also stretches several hundred miles into space and protects us from the sun's charged particles and cosmic rays by focusing them towards the poles. This is where they appear as the northern and southern lights as they excite gases in the atmosphere. As the magnetic poles migrate across the world, those night lights are going to light up some very strange places where they have never been seen before.

During a field reversal, this protective magnetic shield is going to be weak and might even disappear for a century or more. That might drastically affect the weather. There is a growing body of evidence that the sun's highly charged particles batter the upper atmosphere so hard that some of the assault filters down into the atmosphere around us, influencing the wind, atmospheric pressure and temperature.

Without our magnetic shield, those solar particles might create havoc with the weather. That cosmic radiation blasting the Earth's surface could cause genetic mutations and cancers. Yet when palaeontologists scoured the fossil records looking for signs of mass extinctions or bursts of evolution during previous magnetic field flips, they found nothing. Living organisms seem to have survived intact. But what will happen next time?

if you use a pump you are using magnets already

I would say I see no difference from using a pump or hand watering, so yep

And there's something else. When I put water in a zink watering can, put magnets on the side, and let the water stand for a day, there are petroleum like spots floating on top of it. Also, it takes a lot less acid to get the pH down. (I have very hard tap water.)

The effect of using this water or tea made using magnets on plants is spectacular. Even very old plants spring back to life.

I'm not a soil scientist or physicist, but if it works, I use it.

your hard water is your problem

our water here is under 30 PPM out of the tap unfiltered

I remember hauling water softener pellets downstairs as a kid, sucked.

Was just thinking that my ballasts already probably put out a nice magnetic field, they are close by the girls in the grow room. Is this enough to have an effect of any kind?

if i even got a bj from it i would say it worked.

but ime the mag motor in the cloner is superior to say rockwool

or it may be the magnetic field around that electrical device that is responsible.

or the resonance produced in the water by the spinning magnet...

just my intuitive guess...for what it's worth.

who ever thought playing music to plants would induce better growth ??? specially when the back of a speaker is one big magnet

Electromagnetic waves, including radio waves, light, etc., are the result of variations in electric and magnetic fields, not air movement. These waves are transverse waves, the change in electric and magnetic fields occurs transverse or perpendicular to the direction of travel of the wave.

We commonly experience acoustic waves in the air and it is acoustic waves that the ear can detect, however acoustic waves can travel through all kinds of materials. That's why you can hear under water or in the old western movies someone would put their ear to the ground or to the rail of a railroad.

Acoustic waves generally travel a lot slower than electromagnetic waves, but the speed of each is dependent on the characteristics of the medium that it is traveling through.

The earth is a magnetic field so a bracelet is redundant.

What you need is a way to channel/amplify the magnetic effect.

I have two words....Flux Capacitor
