it's not a handout or entitlement if you pay into it
Police, Sheriff, Fire, Public Schools, streets/roads/highways, city/county management... way too many to list.
I agree that the corruption isn't controlled. That's a huge failure and I resent lazy worthless users too. However, I do believe those who can't support themselves deserve help, especially if they paid into the system their entire lives.
I'm not sure what I previously wrote would indicate I think otherwise. I just don't agree that Trump is the answer to our problems. I also disagree that having social services is worse than the one percent fleecing us all.
Sanders' mistake was/is calling himself a 'Democratic Socialist'. What most folks refuse to see/accept is that the USA is already greatly Socialistic... including so-called Conservative Republicans.
Cannavore... It depends on how much you pay into it over the duration of your working life, compared to how much you take.
There are some good social programs in place, right across the western world. As you have listed. But everything has it's limits. Take a look at California... Standing on the outside looking in, it doesn't look good. Sanctuary cities, Taxpaying citizens leaving the state, due to higher taxes. When you have too many people free loading off the system, and not enough contributing, things get messy real fast. I do feel sorry for those who are genuinely trying to have a go.
