Day 26

The supercomputer is getting real sticky.

Added the ionizer back to reduce smells. The case has been developing that sweet flowering aroma for the past few days.

hi there
i am impressed with frosty crystals which are already visible in this early bloom stage :good:

how does this simple auto-watering work for you? any good? for how long will it last (e.g. if you were l1 week away from home? or 2?). does it supply water constantly or the plants suck it only when they need it?

peace, buddy :smoke:

I have no idea how the plants are doing so well . The PH fluctuations didn't seem to bother them that much. That said, some of the lower leaves are already getting a little yellow. Is this normal for day ~27 of flowering?

The auto watering is for backup, really. Once you stick it in the ground it has to stay wet or the mechanism might fail and I'll have to reinsert it (which would tear roots, no doubt). This is why the amount of water in the containers is always small, I've yet to leave the plants unattended for over two days.
It supplies water when the plants need it, so when the soil is wet after ferting the water supply remains almost unchanged but a day or two later, it starts draining. I can comfortably leave the plants alone for a week, maybe even a week and a half but that'd stretch it. Of course, I can always set bigger containers and theoretically leave them alone for an entire grow. Except the occasional normal watering to keep the mechanism working, it's all automated.

It's totally possible to do a guerrilla grow by burying a large bucket or water tank into the soil and setting one of these blumats to suck water from it. There is a huge thread about these things, the smaller ones are superb for micro growers who want to automate things a little bit.

I'm ferting with 2ml/l biogrow, 4ml/l biobloom. The soil itself is somewhat pre-fertilized and has compost inside, so these should only supplement the soil.

nice.
thx for info. just one more thing, does the water res need to stay below pot level or it is irrelevant? if i get it right, water is sucked by plant regardless of gravity?

The higher the res height, the more water will get sucked out. If the res is significantly lower than the pot it might not work. This is not very significant in micro grows, however.

Day 29 of flower

A little update.

Things are getting smelly, the girls smell like melons!
We had some smell leaking problem, turns out that the heat from the lights loosened some duct tape. But now the leaks are fixed.

Today, I bring you more bud porn!
The right plant is a lot more developed than the left. You can even see a small amount of amber trichomes in some of the pictures. Is this normal for this stage of flowering?

looking back at things, I'm glad you moved the screen down. Its looking real pretty in there and I'm sure your yield is going to be great for this space. Time to build a second pc!haha

beautiful buds, man!
i reckon they have just enough headroom and will finish half inch below the lights

well done with that screen. keep us updated!

Thank you, everyone, I really appreciate the positive feedback! :dance013:

I'm at a loss, here. My plants are supposed to finish on 3rd-6th of August but I don't really need to stay in this apartment beyond the 5th of August. Every additional day past the 1st of August can be refunded. I want my final results to be of maximal quality, so what should I do to prepare for the harvest? I heard trimming lower fan leaves can delay optimal harvest time and that dry trimming takes a lot of time (the remaining fan leaves make the buds take more time to dry). I'm going to chop the plants and dry inside the case with the lights off. That means that I'll be stuck in this apartment until the plants finish drying and curing can begin (transporting a computer case full of extremely smelly drying buds in a car is hardly comparable to transporting two easily concealable glass jars).
I will flush, of course, as flushing does not affect my schedule.
I don't mind spending a few more days in my apartment but I seek to find a balance between spending a lot of money on unnecessary rent for noticeably better bud and ruining my harvest to save some $.

More photos coming up later today when the lights switch on.
