Tobacco mosaic? Is it real and isn't this how it would spread. I heard only really shitty tobacco ComPanies sell infected tobacco though.
hey mouts, mites don't like cold, if you don't wanna get tobacco? (or were you burning the filters?) smoke all over your plants just spray the bottoms of the leaves with really cold water. if your plants aren't flowering yet then a spray of pure 91%+ alcohol will KILL them. if you do this in flower it will dissolve all the trichomes...
thanks for the tip! And i just lit a cigarette and let it burn away to kinda fumigate the plantS.. I have heard of ppl using nicotine foggers so thought its worth a try
I would strongly advise you NOT to spray 91% alcohol while you're lighting cigarettes.... anyone reading this should know how seriously fucking flammable 91% alcohol is.
The vapors from it can and will ignite if they find an ignition source, such as a lit bulb or lighter, and if they do,:cough:bullshit:cough: you are NOT putting the fire out! it's as simple as that.
Yes alcohol is VERY flammable and if you spray it near a lit cigarette its POSSIBLE that you might see a big fireball for a second.
At the very least, if someone is going to spray all their plants down with 90 odd percent alcohol, take proper precautions and be careful.
just last night, i realised my plants had an infestation of spider mites. The leaves had white specks on them so I looked at the underside of the leaves and sure enough there were approx 2 or 3 small black bugs the size of a full stop on each leaf, as well as a shitload of eggs. I run a perpetual micro cab and the oldest plants are about 4 weeks from harvest, so i didnt want to use any chemicals and im also a cheap bastard so i did some reading and came up with this. First, i got about 10 cigarette butts from the ashtray and put them in a big plastic bottle with about half a pint of hot water, then i closed it up, put it next to the heater for an hour. Ithen strained it out through an old t shirt and poured it into a spray bottle and put it in the fridge til it was cold. Spider mites hate cold temps and moisture, so this is good. I put all the plants in the shower and sprayed them all one at a time very thouroughly make sure u cover ur face and hands and dont wear ur best clothes because it stinks. After that i put them all in a kitchen cabinet, sparked a cig and put in the ashtray along with the plants and shut the door. I have just checked them and all the adult mites seem to be dead. I will repeat this every 3 days or so until they are dead. Its not safe to use this method on food crops but as u are going to smoke the plants it doesnt matter.
I have no mites from long time, but I clearly remember I had success against them using capsaicin. However mites can become resistant to it in few generations, so the best thing as usual is a rotation of different active ingredients.
The best way to use it is to fumigate and it's pretty easy to do, putting a concentrate oil in a humidifier. Few drops of oil and few drops of soap (I use a yucca extract as soap) mixed to water and then run the humid. in the growroom keeping air recirculation off.
Few hours of this (better all night long) kill 99% of individuals.
This technique imply an active ingredient and high RH (100%). It's impossible for a mite to hide from it once all the air is satured.
Capsaicin is obviously found in hot peppers. There are many ways to extract it, both using water (polar solvent) or oil/fats (apolar solvent). I do my oils for my own consuption, but every kind of fresh, dry, grinded or not, hot pepper will do the job.
There is no limit for the quantity of capsaicin to spray. It is not phytotoxic and it also doesn't affect taste.
Pay attention to inhaling satured air because it hurts to nose and throat, nothing serious however (capsaicin effect is only a joke of our minds).
Give it a try, it will work but don't expect to eradicate the problem with this. You'll probably can't without some other active ingredient.
Interesting note on the resistance to capsaicin. Was this an observed reaction? What type of pepper did you use? Carolina Reaper?
